“Temple, monkeys and great view.”
Reviewed April 24, 2012

Nice place to see if not for the temple and numerous monkeys but for the wonderful views along the coast past Hua Hin. The steps to the temple are quite long and steep and might not be for people who have a fear of heights. Several shops to browse through and then a short walk down the road to the bottom of the mountain puts you into a small fishing village where cheap fresh seafood meals can be bought and eaten. Nice way to fill in the morning and lunch.

“A way to break up the day!”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

its a typical Thai local temple situation.
quite dirty and unkempt around but the monkeys are a fun addition to give you a few pics to talk about!
a good view from the top and worth a walk up to see it.

Don't go if you don't like monkeys!! Great views from the top of the steps to the temple though.

“A decent half-day trip from Hua Hin”
Reviewed March 12, 2012

Khao Takiab (monkey mountain) is a nice peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of nearby Hua Hin. The gold Buddha looking out over the ocean is impressive and from the Buddha's position at the foot of the mountain (or hill) you can work your merry way up the hill (fairly steep in parts) and en route pass a rather straggly offering of souvenir shops and fruit vendors, etc. The place itself - apart from the impressive Buddha statue - is not particularly memorable - but you are really there for those magnificent views across the bay as you get higher up.

Back at the foot of the mountain, there is a nice unassuming stretch of beach with a couple of dozen sun loungers for rent and the usual beach bars and restaurants that serve OK food at best.

Beware of the monkeys on the mountain because they can be extremely aggressive. I've taken several groups of visitors up there in the past and the monkeys have scared the pants off a few of them. If you buy a bunch of bananas, I'd avise you to just throw to apes as quickly as possible. Try holding the bananas behind your back or above your head and well, let's just say you'll be amazed at how far those monkeys will go to the get the fruit off you.

“delightful walk around Monkey mountain”
Reviewed March 10, 2012

Chopsticks hill (aka monkey mountain) is just around the corner from our holiday home and is a lovely way to spend the afternoon, meandering along the lane by the fishing boats , the road leads up to the temple and impressive golden buddha. There is also a lovely restaurant La Mer, with great views of Hua Hin and the vast stretch of beach. Take care not to get too close to the monkeys if you are holding an ice cream!
