Having lived in Northern California, I wasn't really expecting much in Hua Hin - boy, was I surprised! Upon driving in, it was obvious that this was a very professional operation. The vines were meticulously tended; everything neat as a pin. And the building was stunning up on the hill.

But it got even better when we ate lunch at The Sala Bistro. Our party of 5 had a variety of Western and Thai food, all of which was excellent. One would expect good Thai food, but the Western dishes rival any I've had in Europe. Naturally, the wine was excellent. And so was the service.

Having lived in Thailand for sometime, I passed on the elephant ride, but enjoyed watching the elephants progress over lunch.

Overall, a great experience.

Our favourite day in Thailand was here! Really lovely and peaceful (and somewhat surreal!) to tour a vineyard on the back of an elephant. The food was good, the wine was surprisingly drinkable (it won't rock your world, but it was better than I expected given the climate). A wonderul day.

The place is very special. We loved the atmosphere and set up of the restaurant overlooking the vineyard.

We were warmly welcomed by a charming lady manager as well as the staff who all delivered a faultless dining experience. A great way to spend a lazy afternoon away from the beach!

We booked the package via their website, which appears to be a better deal than that offered by our tour agent. The package included, transport, tour of the vineyard by elephant, followed by wine tastings, an excellent three course meal (with a glass of wine of course) and souvenir.

The vineyard has fantastic views, great staff who are very informative.

We opted for the full package priced at 2,100 per person. On face value, it seems a lot to pay for a half day trip, but when you see what you get for that price, you will think it is very good value. You get picked up at Market Village, and you can wait in the shaded area of the Vineyard shop at the front and enjoy a free bottle of their chilled water before the shuttle bus arrives. It takes around 45 minutes to get to the vineyard which is situated high up in the hills, but you get to see some spectacular scenery on the way. You are escorted to a table on the terrace of the sala which overlooks the vineyard and you are given a welcome glass of grape juice. You can then take a ride over to the elephant area and enjoy a ride around the vineyard. If you want to feed the elephants afterwards, you can buy a basket full of bananas or pineapple for 100 Baht as an extra. You are then taken back to the sala, where you are given three wines to taste and told about their production. You can choose one of them to drink with your main course. The food is excellent and you have the choice of Thai or European/American dishes. After selecting the Caesar salad, we had the pork chop and the rib-eye, but we could also have had spaghetti carbonara. It was then finished off with a mango sorbet, which was palate cleansing and the perfect finish to the meal. If that weren’t enough, we were each given a goodie bag to take home, which was a nice touch, before being taken back to Market Village. I cannot stress enough the elegance of the setting. It is fine dining, and it is well appreciated by the local rich Thais who go there just for the food. In Thailand it doesn’t get much better.
