“Cicada Night Market - Hua Hin is worth a look around”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2012

If you are ever in Hua Hin then the Cicada Night Market is well worth a visit. Located south of the town towards Khao Takieb it is easily found as it is right outside the Hyatt Barai Hotel.

From Hua Hin town it will only take you about 10 minutes in one of those little tuk-tuks for a fixed price of 160 Baht. (Tuk-tuks are best avoided in Bangkok but out there there are only Songthaews and Tuk-tuks and the prices are pretty much fixed, so they are OK to use. In fact it cost me 160 Baht 3 years ago to go to Khao Takieb so it hasn't changed)

The Cicada Night market is set in its own grounds and has a large eating area, where you can buy all sorts of Thai foods and then sit down and relax after you have tired yourself out walking around the stalls. You need to buy meal tickets first, unless you are an exceptionally large eater then 100 Baht per person is a good guide.

There are usually twice nightly shows in the small amphitheatre; the show is likely to change but the night that we were there it was someone playing novel musical instruments. Pipes filled with water and little handbells, that sort of stuff.

The interesting thing about this market is that for the most part the stall holders are selling novel handicrafts and things that you would not see anywhere else. Unlike most Thai streetmarkets this would be a good place to go and buy little gifts for the folks back home. I was actually pleasantly surprised by what was on offer.

“Different style of market for Thailand - it's great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2012

This is our second favourite market that we have visited in Thailand (JJ is the 1st). We liked this as it is so different to every other market in Thailand. This is an art and craft market where the local Thai people have hand made the items on sale.

It was so nice to visit a market that had a different look and feel and sold alot of different things to the normal t-shirts, DVD's, bags, shoes etc of Thailand. We loved the look and feel of this market and it shows there are a lot of talented people in Thailand. There was also a lot of other Thai talent on display such as mime artists, dancers, clowns blowing up balloons and entertaining the kids etc..

I believe it is only open on Friday and Saturday nights, but it is a must see! It is easy to get to and easy enough to catch a taxi \ tuk tuk back to your hotel in town. There are many places to buy food and drink.

Very enjoyable and very creative - we loved it..

“Good fun at the Cicada night art market”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2011

As hua Hin is becoming very crowded with boring shopping malls the cicada market adds a new dimension of casual fun and entertainment. An eclectic mix of art, rif raf and food provides good diversity for all tastes.
Handicraft and semi art at very fair prices. Food ok but not "best street food in town". Well worth a visit

“Worth to go!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2011

Very well organized. not too crowded. If you are quite tired with the crowdy and messy Chatuchak Market at Bangkok or ordinary night market, you definitely would like Cicada!Of coz there are not much stores yet, but i see they have still some space to develop.
Much choices of food are provided at the food court using token. (you can always cash back with the unused token~ )
If you feel tired, you can sit down and listen to music. It is the most relaxing market ever.
I am looking very foward for it to adding more individual stores.
