“Just another month in Paradise”
Reviewed May 20, 2011

We have just returned from a brilliant 4 weeks stay at the Donkey's Rest. This has to be the best value for money hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in lots following the England cricket team around the world over the last 15 years. Andy, Duong and their staff made us very welcome and couldn't have been more helpful in providing for all the various needs of their many guests. We Don our sun hats to them. We met a number of colourful characters during our stay to provide us with many hours of fun and entertainment. The 4 weeks flew by. WiFi internet at the hotel is free. Everything is close to the hotel and the town centre is a few minutes away on the bus. Mini mart is on site to provide sundry daily needs and the well run leisure centre with beautiful pool is just behind the hotel and cost us about £10 each to use for the month. A big air conditioned shopping mall is 10 mins walk away and a range of eateries providing breakfast, lunch and dinner needs are on your doorstap. We will be returning towards the end of 2011 for an even longer stay.

For just a quick night's stay, or a longer trip, I don't see why would anyone need a better place than this. Unless you're looking for a resort-style, with facilities, room service, huge restaurant, etc, this is a pretty reasonable B&B, with extremely clean rooms, good bathroom, aircon, hot shower, nice mattress and even a balcony!
Not really much to say, just a really nice place to stay if you're going around the city checking the local attractions, national parks, caves, mountains, etc, and want a friendly, homy, cosy place to rest after all that!
Only thing to mention... there's a rail line nearby, so once in a while you can hear the train passing... once every 2-3h, maybe, and just fast, not even so loud.

Room Tip: Smile! :)

single woman traveller, recommend Donkey's Rest to anyone looking for nice clean accommodation with balcony, comfortable bed, good bed linens. Andy and Duong made me very welcome and went out of their way for the people who were staying there especially for watching the Royal Wedding on the 29th. Duong offered to make a meal for us which was superb, her cooking is fantastic, and we watched the wedding for hours on end.
Pool at back of hotel is great 50 baht per day or 500 baht per month if you are longstay. Hardly used by anyone some days had it by myself with exception of one other lady.
If you get opportunity arrange to go to the Winery for an afternoon, lovely experience, wine good also.
Look forward to hopefully returning again in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: rooms on first floor that have large deck area

Stayed for 6 days on our way back to Malaysia from Bangkok.

The property is about a mile from Hua Hin station on the other side of the railway line from the main part of the town. This is actually an advantage as its away from the hustle and hassle of the heart of the town but with several good restaurants within 5 minutes walk.

Our room was large and had a balcony. There was a large fridge and the bottles supplied were at supermarket prices and not the normal hotel markup. The only disadvantage was that our room was on the railway side of the building but the occasional train did not disturb us.

Next door there is an excellent swimming pool and small gym that can be used at a very small additional cost. The beach is 15 minutes walk away in one direction and a large shopping complex in the other direction.

The owner and his Thai wife were welcoming and we really enjoyed our stay and would return if we were visiting Hua Hin again.

Stayed here for 10 nights, room very clean and of decent size with balcony, Andy and duong were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Duong cooked us a great meal one night and it was just like home from home during our stay there. Use of the swimming pool behind was great. (50 bahts per day) but well worth it. Location was not too bad just a 100 baht ride to town , but a pleasant stroll in the evening, after all there was no hurry. Few nice restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel , Terrace 90 and a nice Italian round corner. We had more than a few nights sat in the bar after we came back from town and there was no hurry to finish your drink . They dont do much in the way of meals which would have been nice , but Andy always cooked us a good english breakfast every morning. Would certainly go back on our next visit as it was very reasonably priced for what you get .
Thanks Andy and duong for a great stay.

With everything you need on hand, this is one of the best places I have stayed in. Rooms were cleaned daily. Staff were delightful, helpful, knowledgable and welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxed- just what I needed after a long flight from London! The food was out of this world.I have been to Hua Hin many times and stayed in places more expensive-but not half as good as Donkeys Rest. Excellent value for money, this place is highly recommended. My stay there was very enjoyable. I will definatly stay there again.

We spent 4 nights at Donkeys Rest. It was within a short walking distance to the beach and very close to other amenities. There was use of a huge swimming pool. The rooms were cleaned every day. The food served there was truley amongst the best Thai food I have had. I cannot fault this place at all. For what we paid, I would definatly go back. Worth every penny. Above all, the host Andy and all of the staff made us very welcome. They were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend this place to anyobody. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Cant wait for the next visit! Thanks for everything guys.
