Nilawan Guest House Hua Hin
Ranked #179 of 300 Hua Hin B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 30, 2013

I just spent last weekend here with one of my friends on our holiday. It was both of our first times in Hua Hin, but we heard it was a nice beach, so we thought we would give it a try. The guesthouse was very easy to get to, most taxis, or tuk tuks know the place so that was easy; we even arrived around 11pm. Nilawan was very helpful and had good customer service. We ate there the first night, and the food was very good as well (I had panang curry). Being a beach town there is a lot of fresh seafood places around; i recommend "big family" on the beach, the guesthouse really only carries prawns. The beach was so close, a shoeless walk of about 3 minutes, and the beach was nice and relaxing; just what we were looking for. Great weekend! Hua Hin is a sweet little place with great people and big smiles all around!

We arrived ay this hotel late but that was no problem, the staff were friendly and attended to us quickly. Although, we booked into as a group (1 couple and 2 singles) and there was a bit of confusion over who had what room. When we (the couple) were shown to our room we had two single beds while the people on there own both got big double beds. We had explained to thr staff at check in that we needed a double room while the others were okay with singles but he mustn't have understood.
The room was big anyway, with a balcony and large bathroom.it didn't look like it had been decorated in a while though and everything was a bit wonky! I was a little bit wary of using one of the plug sockets as it was coming away from the wall and hanging out a little. The aircon unit was mega acient and held together with brown tape too, and if set on high fan made a loud rickety sound. The shower was cold too.
Provided with the room you get 2 bottle of water which are replaced each day, towels and some soap. Breakfast is available but not included, I would recommend from the entrance of the guesthouse, heading towards the main road where there is a lovely cafe just on the corner which is open 8am -8pm and does a delicious breakfast. Just a short walk from the guesthouse is a swimming pool which guests are allowed free use of. The hotel is also a short walk from the beach.

We stayed at the Nilawan for 11 nights. The room we had was on the third story up several flights of stairs. If you have mobility problems look elsewhere (although they did carry our cases up for us).

The place is very clean but basic. As a couple we booked a family room and it was a wee bit cramped but you got used to it. The shower is a "wet shower". In other words you shower standing in a corner of the toilet and the water runs down a drain in the floor. This sounds bad but it was actually OK when you got used to it.

The beds and towels are changed on a daily basis and soap is supplied. The bed was enormous but a bit too hard for us. They have a free and fast Internet connection, which was appreciated. No breakfast is included but they have a small restaurant where you can eat. The food and drinks are very good and reasonably priced.

There is a decent, communal swimming ppol at the end of the Soi but no sun beds so it's notmuch good for anything other than a quick dip. One other small criticism was that my wife broke one of the glasses when it fell in the sink as she was washing it. When we were leaving they charged us 20 baht for this, which seems a bit petty.

All things considered this is good little guest house if that is what you are looking for, just don't expect hotel standards.

We have just stayed at the nilawan guest house for three weeks. What a wonderful little place the rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day by pleasant staff free water in rooms every day excellent shower tv fridge and balcony also air con. We ate many times at the Nilawan and were never disappointed the food was wonderful and so cheap, It is situated in a small side street with half a dozen other small hotels and there is a large communal swimming pool which was cleaned daily It is about 10 mins from the centre of hua hin but opposite the large hua hin tesco shopping mall. An excellent place to stay and so cheap. Please feel free to ask any questions about this place carol

Room Tip: Front rooms overlook the street back rooms overlook waste ground

Upon arrival we were greeted and the staff wanted to know our names.
We were later called by our names every breakfast serving.

Rooms were tidy and very clean, cleaned every day. Beds made every day, in fact I do not see very much differing this from a hotel....
We thought the mattresses were a little hard so we put a blanket underneath our bed-cover. The next day we had an extra top-mattress there put there by the lady doing the housekeeping. Very good service!!

Very good standard both room-wise and food-wise. This kitchen gave us the most value for money in the whole street. We tried a few places....

Fantastic atmosphere, mostly scandinavian or northern european guests in this street (amongst us later referred to as "little Scandinavia") but the local people were absolutely fantastic!!

Our only regret is that we only stayed one week....
