We tried this place based on on-line recommendations from Thai speaking travel guides. We entered the restaurant with rather high expectations. As the visit took place during the New Year’s weekend there were mostly farangs, including myself present. I think the amount spice and flavors were adjusted to the clientele present and thus it didn’t live up to expectations.

Well, nothing special about this place, except for the nice sea view and windy place to relax. Average food and slightly over-priced.

We visited here on a Monday and it was fairly busy and as far as I could see mostly tourists.

Upon arrival you will see that the downstairs is used for cooking and the fresh seafood is swimming in the tanks. The restaurant is upstairs and runs in the sea below.

Note: if you have young kids who like the run around this place can be dangerous as the side railings are very wide.

We ordered the scallops in garlic and salt butter, fish cakes, fried whole seabass, salt butter prawns, papaya salad and fried rice with a bottle of water and a coke.

The food arrived quickly and it was good however far from having the authentic Thai flavours and seasonings.

My assumption is that it is catered for western tourists and I was looking for the Thai element so was a little disappointed. There was a distinct inconsistency in seasoning.

We finished every thing and as I said food was great for what it was and reasonably priced. The total came to 1575 baht which is around £35 which is reasonable especially considering the seabass was quite large I would say between 750-900grams. I would choose a local fish next time.

Overall I was satisfied but left disappointed that it didn't have the Thai sweet sour hot flavours even when advertised just felt toned down for tourists but still Worth a visit.

The seafood is the highlight of this place. Staff is friendly and good at giving recommendations too as they can speak quite good English. We ordered a feast for 5 but the highlight to me were the tomyum, grilled squid, butter scallop, and deep fried fish. It was really delicious and you get the option to down your food with cold beer.

Not many things that can be better at that moment enjoying the simple pleasures of life with loved ones, good food, and seaview. The prices are reasonable too and I would recommend this place to anyone going to Hua Hin to check it out.

The most popular of the seafront restaurants in the old fishing village caters to all - but increasingly tour groups from China
.this means it can be noisy at mealtimes but possible to be quiet outside these periods.
Seafood has a short shelf life and volume is needed to ensure freshness and variety - Chaolay does that in spades as compared to the rather faltering images of the other couple of competitors.
Being in the midst of foot tourist traffic and the many vans, the prices are much higher than the Restos a couple of kilometers To the south and Those inland by a multiple of two or more.

On stilts and with steep steps not really accessible for the old and infirm, and the vista is quite limited as only the front tables get the grand view.

The menu is extensive focusing on the usual THAI suspects and service is attentive and at times insistent to move the clients along.

The food is well presented and quick to boot.
For me once was enough and Would look for alternatives if transport is available.
