“Not a resort”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2011

Having deliberated long and hard to chose a hotel in Hua Hin, we selected the Intercon. It is not a resort in the Thai sense. It is a small hotel, wedged in between 2 large white high rise apartments on one side and a smaller high rise on the other. There is a tiny driveway which means that road noise is audible from the balconies. The pictures on the website were taken at some very strange angles to avoid this.
Upgraded (as an IHG Ambassador) to a pool access room which allowed access to the delightful long pool.
The room is badly designed - although large in areas, the bathroom sits, in effect, in the middle of the room, and even the toilet is not totally separated from the rest of the bathroom (comments also made by others in earlier reviews)
The rooms were never cleaned until mid afternoon (and the hotel is not even half full) and the supply of soaps and gels could only be described as 'mean spirited'. Likewise, no replenishment of the fruit basket during our 4 day stay.
Prices are normal 5 star - approx $35 for 3 coffees and an icecream last night.
The staff were polite and we did not experience the poor English comment by earlier reviewers.
Food - breakfast is a large buffet spread, appealing to all tastes. Quantity, however, seems to be the watchword, rather than quality - in fact, that could be said of all meals provided. This, in the land of flavours, is very sad.
The rooms in the main building are accessed from outside of the lobby area. Our daughter was located in this area and we had to escort her each evening to her room as there were no doormen on duty in the late evening and anyone could gain access to this part of the building.
This is a 5 star hotel in name alone as it provides the necessary functions eg 24 room service
Will we ever return - no
The GM should visit properties such as the Intercon in Bali (still the standard bearer for resort type properties in our family) to experience how it should be done.

Last week my family and I stayed at this hotel. It was just superb. Very relaxing, very quiet and a great location just suitably away from the crowded areas. Getting a tuc tuc, organising a tour or just helping with requests was a passion of the team there. The pools are great, the food just right, felt safe and secure and felt welcome by every staffs smile and sawasadee every time. Well done to the team there. The only complaint was the dream had to end, and I could not sleep longer in the mornings. BTW the way take a walk on the beach, just fantastic, very natural, even met a small live baby octopus that we rescued and put back into the suf!

Our family (we as parents and two adult daughters) took a quickly planned three night trip to Hua Hin while visiting for a few weeks in Bangkok ... and are glad to have booked the Intercontinental. What a nice respite. We've travelled extensively overseas, including Asia-Pac, for many years, and this resort provided us what we needed.

We had two deluxe, ocean view rooms with breakfasts provided (strong recommendation to include your room rate, because the breakfasts are great). Aside from a morning walk along what was a very empty and clean coastal beach with the low season) and another morning having a family bike ride (with Hua Hin Bike Tours), we spent most of the time at the resort ... thoroughly enjoying the services, rooms and meals at the hotel. From the welcomed drink & cold towels, to the time of checkout, all very relaxing. In particular, credit and recognition goes to all of the staff, including Ton and Peachy (and really all of the service staff, including the great chefs ... excellent food).

It was our choice to choose a somewhat "smaller" resort hotel, only 119 rooms here, but not too on the "boutique" side. It made a difference in our not having to traipse far to enjoy any and all of the pool, beach, fitness and spa facilities. We noticed how much fun the families with young children had...with heavy use of the child room facilities, video games, etc. There are onsite massage services too. We were also glad not to have the hotel smack in the downtown area and be able to retain greater solitude and privacy.

The pools of varying depths and the whirlpools, and the poolside seating, were all designed for lounging. When we walked by all the other beachside resorts on our morning walk, we noted that the Intercontinental appeared to be the only one that offered a straight through view from the center of the resort thru to the ocean as well.

All-in-all, a very high recommendation. Our compliments to everyone.

Room Tip: Facilities nicely provide bug spray and sun tan lotion, but still recommend bringing your own.

I had a 3 days break in Huan hin after several days of sightseeing in Bangkok. The hotel overall is nice and the staff is trying very hard to anticipate the guests needs. Language is sometimes a little challenging since the english level of some staff isn't that good.

Overall nice hotel with good services perfect for a nice break after shopping and sightseeing in Bangkok.

Having stayed at many places in Hua hin, i can say this is one of the best places to stay. The pros of this place are:

- Being a new hotel, the hardware and amenities was absolutely 5 star. They have marbles in the bathroom, all occitane amenities and nice decoration. The gym and spa looked very nice although didn't have time to try any of them.
- TV was 42 inch and had a good selection of channels including all the sports channel. They even have an IP phone and bose DVD player. Food basket in the room was also provided. Newspaper was provided every morning.
- there is small balcony outside the room which makes it nice to hang out.
- Breakfast was good and there is lots of choose from.
- check in and check out was fast; they have underground parking which is good because your car doesn't get hot with the sun.
- at around 6pm, your host butler calls to see whether you need anything.
- Location was excellent. The beach was very clean and great to swim. Also they have jet ski you can hire in front of the hotel. Pool is also nice, but can get crowded.
- staff was nice and smiley, and always made sure we were attended to should we need anything.
- the design and view of the hotel was great.
- there was also free wifi in the room.

The not so good aspect:
- i found 2 ants on the bed while sleeping, and 1 ant on the desk (probably because of the fruit basket). Not sure where they came from, as we were on the 2nd floor.
- Food at Lunch was average . For that price better eat outside for lunch.
- if you want to stay on saturday night, you had to stay at least another 1 night (friday or sunday night), otherwise you cannot book.

Myself and my girlfriend went to the Intercontinental Hua Hin for one night only to get out of the hustle and bustle of Bangkok as we live there. The hotel was smaller than we thought from its website (which was a good thing for us) but still quite big. When we arrived we were givin the nicest welcome drink I ever had in my life. I think it was Pineapple and Rosella with syrup. Amazing and so refreashing..!!

Our room was gorgeous. Grand deluxe which I think is their standard room. Very tastefully done and with great finishings and attention to detail. The day bed on the balcony is a great idea..!

Pool fantastic...so many areas to relax. 3 different temp jazuzzis:):) Beech was nice and very quiet. Great for walks! We had dinner in the international restaurant one night. Yes it was expensive by Thai standards but really nice. Our table was in a shallow end of the pool which means our feet were in water while we ate. Very nice and something different.

Really nice library with books and DVDs. 4 jars full of free homemade cookies...:)

Last but not least was the most incredible breakfast I think I ever had. I never ate for the rest of the day. The had everything you could possibly want. Pancakes, french toast, pork sausages, saute potatoes, omlettes, fresh eggs, cereal, fruit, so many pastries, all the thai favourites and apple crumble. I know, apple crumble for breakfast...!! But hey had to try it..:)

These guys truly go the distance and cannot wait til we get back for a totally relaxing time...!

Room Tip: Make sure you request an ocean view room..!
