“Beautiful grounds, lovely old fashioned hotel that is far the center of town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

We were on a tour and stayed two nights at this beautiful old fashioned resort that is somewhat dated but still has alot of charm. The hotel is spread out over a large area and we stayed in a quiet, convienient first floor room. Beds were comfortable and there was free wifi (very slow and weak), free water, chips and juice. There was also a safe and a coffee maker. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Breakfast buffet was in a separate building with many Thai and western choices.

The main negative is that there are no commercial facilities around this hotel--no restaurants, markets or ATMs. It is at least 4 or 5 kilometers from the center of town across the river. You need to use a tuk tuk or taxi to get into the heart of Chiang Rai which has a large night market, food court, entertainment and restaurants and ATMs.

This was a very nice property, on extensive pretty grounds, with a large swimming pool (though not sure how clean it was). The property was well maintained and rooms were good, with hard beds and fairly clean. The excellent breakfast buffet was served in a separate building. However, this hotel was not close to anything. It took a ten minute tuktuk ride to get into town, to the neat hilltribe museum above a Cabbages and Condoms restauant, to the night market and really anywhere.else.

Stayed here with family in 2 villas. Beautiful rooms and surrounds.

As others have said the pool area is a bit outdated and the resort is not that close to town.

The food was okay and the were mostly friendly.

You could do worse.

Although the rooms and lay-out were nice the whole place lacked atmosphere. The only time we saw anyone around was at breakfast when the people on tour holidays were around and then it was chaotic, I didn't really see why it was voted Luxury award 2010. The dining room reminded me of a big canteen, the swimming pool wasn't very inviting and the Coffee Corner and Bar were very dark .Although all the necessary facilities were there, there was no incentive to use them. Though I must say I had a very good foot massage at their Spa.
I felt that as the hotel was not walking distance to town, the hotel could have put on more than two bus trips to town each evening.

I don't know what your experience is of luxury hotels and mine is not extensive, but when a hotel received the soubriquet of 'World Luxury Hotel Award 2010' for Thailand (and, remember, there are such classics as The Oriental in Thailand, with many more vying for its coveted place as No 1) you expect them to have a barman on hand in the bar, and for the bar to be stocked with such modest items as tonic water and limes/lemons, or wine, or ....

Next to the bar, the 'Coffee Corner' shows signs of total morbidity. It had not been used for several years.

Water in the landscape channels is stagnant with a silvery-brown film atop. Blue water- and drainage-pipes are in much evidence and yellow plastic electricity conduits have broken surface here and there – and even broken, so that bare cables are evident in the lawns.

The hotel/resort sits in an extensive site so that it is very disappointing that the restaurant is more of a works canteen and has an exclusive view of the hotel car park. Breakfast is a buffet with a wide variety of choice, but there is little monitoring and when things run out (butter... yes, even butter) you have to ask. And the baguettes got more and more stale/solid every day. And, I think, breakfast vouchers died out in luxury hotels many years ago.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel part of the complex, and thus missed out on the opportunity to experience the villas etc; what we did experience was very modest indeed and can in no way at all be described as 'luxury'.

Twice before the visit I attempted to contact the hotel, via their website message facility, to confirm my reservation: neither message was answered.

We stayed 5 nights - pre-booked and prepaid - and were informed at the beginning that the cost of travelling into the city from the location some kms out of town would be 80 baht (GBP2) per person in each direction. So the free shuttle-bus, mentioned in one review, was not offered or no longer exists. We hired a van with driver for our five days so did not avail ourselves of any hotel transport.

We expect more - much, much more - in SE Asia. Who on earth was conned into awarding this very modest establishment such an extravagant accolade?

No photos accompany this review - nothing was worth photographing

This is i very nice and quit hitel situated outside Chian Rai. We had to take a transfer to the town and a Tuk-Tuk back.
The room was very nice and the restaurant was okay.
They do not offer any tours, so you have to plan your trips beforhand.

Room Tip: Ask for a cottage by the pool.

This was probably the best hotel I stayed at during my visit to Thailand. This resort had a main building with villas throughout. The rooms were clean and unique. There was a sliding wood sliding "window" between the main part of the room and the bathroom. The resort grounds were absolutely gorgeous. They have a pool, sauna and gym which I took advantage of. The hotel isn't located really located near anything, but they do provide a free shuttle to and from the city center which is about 10 minutes away. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone that is staying in Chiang Rai.
