“Very touristy without much to see”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2012

This is a very touristy place and not a Thai cultural experience. Although it's nice to look out and see where the borders of Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos converge, I don't see why you would want to spend much time here.

“Definitely a box-ticker only”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2012

Here the Ruak and Mekong rivers merge and the borders of Laos, Burma and Thailand meet. Historically it was once a very important location with links to the Silk Road but now it is a big tourist attraction that lacks any real cultural character.

Its definitely a place to tick off your list and you will be able to see the giant golden Buddha sitting on his boat, visit the Hall of Opium and House of Opium to learn about the opium trade which the region was once most famous for. You can also take a boat trip and take pictures by the river. You will find more upmarket accomodation here as well. Thats about it.

“Nice view, a tick done it destination.”

Journey there pretty boring, however passed some nice old wooden teak houses. Some good views and photos. But nothing really that holds you there or anything unique to purchase to take away as a momento. Tick Golden Triangle done.

“Typical Tourist Town”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2012

A town with numerous tour buses bring tourists by the dozens. Although a few interesting sites (you can only see from a distance) huge golden Buddah, and a river boat ride that is uneventful and you go one direction a mile, turn around and then head back and go the other direction two miles. The only site is two casinos financed by the chineses in Myanmar and one in Burma.

The only thing worth visiting in this town is the opium museum and although interesting even it is not a must do activity.

“It does not worth it !”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

This place does not worth it to go. There is nothing to do. There are vendors who sell you a trip go to a Lao Market which does not worth it neither. Nothing interesting to buy.

The only good thing is to be in a spot that links 3 countries
