Very close to the Golden Triangle and Thai borders with Laos and Myanmar, Chiang Saen is one of the most ancient cities of Northern Thailand. Several places still testify today of ancient life along the majestic Mekong river : the archeological park, pleasantly planted with tall trees, part of the old city moats and walls, and ruins of old brick temples and chedis. A quiet place to feel the depth of time and imposing nature.

i just loved the awe of the river - sitting and looking up and down early morn, mid day, evening was all inspiring. Everyone was friendly and helpful also, could have enjoyed longer.

I have been to Chiang Saen four time now! Every time I go to the North of Thailand, I try to head here and spend a night. The old temple ruins are located within the city proper and are strewn about all over the place. At night on the banks of the mighty Mekong is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a simple vendor dinner. Have a drink; watch the sun set over the mountains of Burma.
