“Not so enlightening”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

This gets a "just OK" from us. Not sorry we spent the time, but would not go out of our way to see it. Very little information, the displays seemed to repeat themselves.

“Thunderstorm,hilltribes and cabbages& condoms”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

This is a special place to be stuck in during a torrential thunderstorm. In addition to informing visitors of the plight of hill Tribes, its volunteer staff work to educate them in adjusting to a modernising society.
The centre displays and sells their crafts. There is an excellent restaurant downstairs called "cabbages and condoms"
But back to the thunderstorm. It was so intense that we asked at the desk if they could call us a cab. The lass spoke no english,so the director of the center offered us a lift to our hotel. What ,a godsend!!.

“Small but interesting, very informative”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

The Hill Tribe Museum is a really good way to get a quick but helpful understanding of the various hill tribes in Northern Thailand, their origins, cultures, and social organization, and importantly, the difficult circumstances in which they live today. The video introduction to the different tribes is surprisingly informative, and some of the exhibitions are fascinating, such as the exhibitions on the opium trade and on the freak-show style exploitation of Karen women. (A visit to the museum will give you something to think about when you see a roadside sign with an arrow for "Long Necked Karen".) The museum is run by a non-profit foundation to help the hill tribe people, and you even get a free coffee/tea/water at Cabbages and Condoms downstairs. A good way to spend an hour or two when you need to get out of the heat, and it's for a good cause!

“Hill Tribe Museum”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

This Museum was just round the corner from the Nak Nakara Hotel we were staying at. Lots of information about the different tribes, we watched a 20 minute video during our visit.
We spoke to a young lady who was a Hill Tribe weaver and she gave us her opinions of their way of life.
Lots of information on the Golden Triangle and the opium trade.
A worthwhile visit for those interested in Hill Tribes.
