A Northern local food restaurant, with mild spicy for westerners, but not for Thai.We had a long waiting for foods and for bill checking! the prices are a bit high for Thai, but the staffs are friendly and helpful. The decoration is o.k., there is a live folk music by the pro guitarist. In my view not suggest to come, find the other local food restaurant, even they are labeled by the tripadvisor!

First of all it took 5 tuktuk drivers 15 minutes of discussion about the whereabouts of this restaurant that we had spotted in a tourist brochure and we thought looked cute. It still looked cute (ish) when we actually got there although a menu the size of War and Peace with defficient description and translation was a bit daunting but we decided to plunge in and try local Lanna food and ordered 2 dishes each. I had enquired about the size of the dish and the waitress mimed a small bowl. What actually arrived at the table was a clay pot that Ali Baba could easily have climbed into. Another identical one arrived for my husband. We have healthy appetites and hadn't eaten all day so plunged in salivering with anticipation despite the fact that we had no idea what it was.
I have to explain at this point that we are Mexican, MEXICAN! We both eat any and all hot food, we put hot sauce on fruit, we spent six weeks in India and never once thought the food too spicy, but these were the hottest and most unpleasant dishes that we have ever eaten anywhere. We ploughed on trying to find a redeeming feature but after a few spoonfuls both decided to give up, especially after the entire staff had appeared apparently to laugh at us. My husband had actually explained to our waitress that he only wanted medium spicy and we ended up feeling conned as no attempt had been made to help us, guide us or in any way help us navigate through waters with which we were clearly unfamiliar.
We live in a tourist city and hate to see any local business taking advantage of tourists and have been known to tell people off for tourist abuse, but unfortunately in Chiang Rai our linguistic capacity is below zero. We are also not complainers or finnicky eaters but I would absolutely suggest to anyone unfamiliar with Lanna cuisine to go elsewhere. Shame on you Moom Mai, you could have done so much better!

A truly great place for lunch or dinner. The food is excellent. Seating is provided both inside and outside in a very beautiful garden setting that provides intimate and secluded dining areas surrounded by nature. Live folk music, both Thai and English, is provided in the evening. The staff and service are very good.

Drove past the place at night and the place was packed outside hence decide to try it during lunch . Was the only customer when we were there around 2 .

Ordered the deep fried small prawn , coconut salad and some vegetable. Only the prawn is something worth talking about. Maybe I did not order the right dish or maybe my expectation was higher for a place that was mentioned in some guide book.

You would not miss much if you are looking for good food, but if you are looking for ambiance then this place should be great for beer and finger food .
