A beautiful home located very close to the night market and the bus station. Great, clean and very comfortable room. Good restaurants within walking distance. Very nice staff. The bad thing is getting heavy bags to the upper floors using the stairs. Otherwise, a great place to stay in Chiang Rai.

Great guesthouse. Really clean and comfortable. Large room, nice staff. Decent location.

The breakfast is a basic toast with tea coffee and some fruit, all self service. However for the price you pay, there is no right to moan about it.

My girlfriend and I found Chiang Rai a bit boring, and to be honest the fact we has this guesthouse booked was a life saver. We were able to chill out during our downtime, and we were really pleased with the place.

If you want a clean comfortable room for a bargain price-this is your place. If you're after an amazing posh guesthouse with huge buffet breakfast on the cheap, look elsewhere.

We stayed 3 nights early may 2014. check-in was smooth and fast. had help getting our cases up the stairs.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was very clean and a good size. we had no trouble with the water temperature or pressure. The a.con was good, good tv.
Breakfast was as said before, but for room price what do you really want, and there are plenty of places close by if you need more.
Bus station 5minute walk away.
They also had vegemite in the fridge, just tell them your aussie lol.
We would recommend this hotel any time.
We have no trouble recommending this guest house.

Room Tip: we stayed 3 floor but i think any would do

At first I had only booked 4 nights as I wasnt sure how uch I would want to stay in Chiang Rai. Soon after arriving I had a really good vibe about the city and this place and I extended my stay of other 4 nights. This place is well located only few minutes walking to the center, the rooms are spacious and spotless and the staff is really friendly and kind. Yes the breakfast is toasts with jam and bananas, but it is lovely and lay out on a lovely small garden where there is a little pond with fishes and a small garden with 2 white rabbits hopping around, making it a great start of the morning. I loved it and would come back anytime! Thank you for all your kindness and gift at the end :)

Shortly after its opening in 2012 I had the chance to stay at Baan Malay and I was really curious to find out if the guesthouse could keep up its high standard.
They could.
The airco is working well, fridge in the room, flat screen (with satellite), free wifi, plenty of space in the bathroom and best of all, a very comfortable bed.

Guesthouses nowadays are not comparable at all with the guesthouses of the 70's (that's the previous century, yes). Nowadays they are more like mini-hotels with all possible comfort.
I guess one can always complain that breakfast was poor and that there is not much to see in Chieng Rai, but I certainly don't share the view. At Baan Malay one does get value for the money and there are so many things to see and do at Chieng Rai that one can stay there easily for 2 weeks and still haven't seen and done it all.

My wife and I, we both value this guesthouse very much and sure enough, if and when we return to Chieng Rai, we'll definitely stay at Baan Malay again.

Nice clean rooms, good bath, flat screen tv, frig, breakfast is pretty minimal and bared bones. The rate was decent for what we got so no complaints. Good location, near main street, restaurants, night market. Night market by the way was very nice. The hotel recommended a lively taxi driver named seksan Kengkasem, he took us around to all the major sites in his great private car, a 10 hr tour, lovely guy - all for Baht 1,200 for tge entire day - tel 085 0410119.
