Khun Kon Waterfall is one of the best near to Chiang Rai city. I simply rented a motorbike/scooter in the city and set off. It is well signposted and easy to find. Near the entrance to the National Park the waterfall is in there is a car park and you then have to walked 1.2km to reach the falls but they are well worth the effort and the jungly forest makes it an interesting walk. Take a picnic with you as there are some lovely spots to lay down your mat and eat along the way. Thais do it, so why don't you ? There's a lovely pool at the foot of the falls to cool off in. Enjoy!!

We spent the day motorbiking around Chiang Rai and ended up at Khun Kon. The hike in was fairly easy along the roller coaster (up/down) trail through the dense jungle. The trail ended at the 200ft falls that were really cool.

When you arrive at the parking spot, you will need to walk for a while to get to the waterfall. The sign said it's only 2 km walking, but I feel like it a lot more than 2 km. So you need to prepare a good pairs of shoes if you want to go there. Along the way, you'll find beautiful nature and a lot of big trees, so no boring walking there. You'll be very tired when you get there, but when you see the beautiful waterfall, you'll forget all the hardship! They don't sell any food at the waterfall, so if you want to have some picnic, prepare it before you leave your car.

I am not at all sure we would have even heard of this place had we not been guided around for a day by a friend in Chiang Rai. That said, he drove us to this National Park, we grabbed our running shoes and water bottles and off we went. Personally, we quite enjoyed the hike - our friend told us it was about 2 kilometres each way. It was not overly strenuous, though combined with the heat of the afternoon, we were definitely sweating by the time we reached the falls. It is mostly uphill to get there, and I have seen better falls, but nonetheless, it was quite lovely, as was the walk to and from, so all in all a nice place to visit and get a little exercise at the same time.

be ready for quite a walk. We wondered whether the distance is marked in km or miles :-) The hike is worth it, do it in the morning - it is not that hot and they are no people there!
