La Vie En Rose Hotel
Ranked #60 of 196 Chiang Rai B&B and Inns
Reviewed February 9, 2012

LA Vie En Rose is a charming, clean small hotel just out side the gates in Chiang Rai. It has friendly and helpful staff who will provide assistance on arrangements and have a fair English ability. The place is very clean, good sized rooms with small balcony and a garden / pool area. The breafast is large, cooked to order and tasty. A good value for the money and a place to return.

For the price I paid, I can easily spent a night in a 4-5 star hotel in the North Thailand. Nothing really special about this hotel. Clean but too ecpensive.

The hotel is very clean, staffs are lovely maybe just one old lady that was not so friendly ( she seems to be someone important though). Its located within a walking range to the clock tower and Sunday walking street ( Ta Non Kon Muan). You got to pick the breakfast from their selection, not big but good enough.

I travel frequently for business and have been staying at exclusively this hotel for the past months. Unbelievably poor customer service I have received. Upon checking at the front desk this evening,
the old lady at the front desk was reading magazines and acted like we were an inconvenience. "We reserved a room with a double bed. When we got there we had two single beds. We went down to the front desk and the reception old lady yelled at me. I asked her for a double bed if she had anything else and she said only act silent. The parking lot was empty. I asked what happened to the other room, and an old lady yelled at me that the costs are different. I asked how much. 200 ฿ for upgrade to double bed, they wouldn't reserve me the room and Ignored her mistake? I started to get frustrated and stated just that about the money. She slammed her papers down and drove the key card into the slot and threw them up on the desk. She was rude, aggressive and unhelpful. We then stayed and the next comedy of errors was at dinner when we waited 1.30 hr for a meal and a few drink – not an option. When I checking out at front desk in the morning, two ladies reception are very nice and friendly. The room is colorful and nice. But I travel a lot for business and have never encountered 'hospitality' such as this. You need to retrain your old lady front desk staff.

We were to stay at another hotel in town but when we arrived they were in the middle of major refurbish so we ended up back at this one after promising never to stay here again (see review below). Sorry to say its still the same horror of problems. No service. Prices outrageously high and all + 3% for credit card, and our friends had to pay 800 tbt for extra bed (read uncomfortable camp stretcher) in a room already overpriced. Arriving hungry we ordered from the room service menu to be told the kitchen was closed and nothing available. The hotel Tuk Tuk proudly parked at the entrance offering to take customers to the night market had no driver. We did not attempt the breakfast as the twin bed room rate only includes (Thai) breakfast selection of rice porridge. There are lots of alternatives in Chiang Rai but all very expensive compared to anywhere else in Thailand, there seems to be some sort of coercion among the hotels regarding pricing so beware

The hotel offer great value for money. It's in town, take only 2-3 mins to walking street which normally held on Saturday night. The staff is very nice and friendly.. I am happy with a good ABF, superior service and nice room. It's kind of Superior B&B hotel. I stay a night here on weekend Sep 13 and other night in Dusit hotel... I would say, this hotel room is new and better than Dusit.

Room Tip: Each room paint with difference color... I got a dark blue... next time I will ask for lighter paint...

Hotel has only a small number of rooms, even though the building appears large. Hotel seems well run and looked after, though we appeared to be the only guests at the time, and there was a sense of staff not quite knowing what to do. Each room is styled with a different colour theme, pink was OK, wonder what the black room will be like. Trying hard to be elegant and trendy but no real purpose or ambiance apparent.

Shower was in bath, and a bit tricky to get water temperature right. Bit of a step over the bath edge to get in. Free wifi available in room.

The outdoor pool has no shade and there was no drinks bar available, both points put me off from using it. Limo-style tuk-tuk was fun and will transfer you to night market for 50 baht. Shell petrol station next door has a good coffee shop.

Room Tip: Choose your favourite colour
