We were tired. We needed a shower. We needed laundry done. We wanted to sleep someplace where the walls were solid. Baan Bua was the perfect and inexpensive place to gather ourselves after an adventure in Laos and rejoin the rest of the world. Very conveniently located near the night market, there were lots of services in the area to take care of our needs. Clean room with a/c, bathroom is outside but it has hot water and it is all yours. I got to shower with a garden snail one morning. For $20 per night, perfect for our needs.

Baan Bua Homestay served as an ideal budget-friendly base from which my fiancée and I were able to explore Chiang Rai and surrounding areas.

Rooms are compact but clean and comfortable with a private bathroom, albeit outside but covered. Something different and not a problem. Limited food menu but take a walk to intersection with the clock tower and check out one of the corner coffee shops for a bite and a good coffee.

We organized an airport pickup and were collected on time by a friendly driver who turned out to be our host and receptionist rolled into one. He was a great help and was useful in assisting us in organising tours to surrounding sights, as well as giving us a drive around himself.

Firstly it's important to know the there are two properties in Chiang Rai called Baan Bua. They are close to each other but still a bit of a walk if you end up at the wrong one like we did!

This review is for Baan Bua Homestay so don't go to Ban Bua Guesthouse and if you do any tours that include a pick up, make sure they're clear on which one you are at.

Room was nice and AC worked well but it was a bit on the small side and although the bathroom was private and very clean, it was separate to the bedroom which wasn't explicitly stated when we booked (on agoda).

Wifi was fine, staff were helpful and location is good, close to the bus station.

We were staying one night in this homestay. We stayed on room four. We could hear every word of our Australian neighboor.
The shower and toilet are outside and this is okay. However when the temperature is below 12 in the night, it becomes a reason not to use the shower. For 650 baht a night without breakfast... We saw some better guesthouses for this rate.

The gentleman at reception was extremely helpful and friendly on our arrival. He pointed out things to see and told us how we could get to the white temple. The rooms were basic but clean and had towels and small bottles of water. The bathroom was private but wasn't en suite which wasn't ideal but not a huge deal. Also, the walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors but again, not a huge deal since we were out all day and only slept here.
We decided to stay a second night but the triple room we were in wasn't available so we booked the family room. It was really spacious and this room had a private en suite bathroom.
The next morning we were supposed to check out at noon but my boyfriend wasn't feeling so well and just could get moving and the man at reception could not have been sweeter and said it was no problem if we needed a bit more time and let us stay until 1.
This is a great little homestay and I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others!

I am not usually attracted to staying in authentic thai lodging especially if it is in the heart of the city. This particular inn is in a location that has hotels ranging from 2 - 5 stars and the entire community is practically engaged in catering to the needs of the tourists.

One thing I liked about this place is that its is situated at the quieter end of the road and is only 2 blocks away from the bus terminal for buses to and from Chiang Mai and Mae Sai.

Since i pre-booked with Agoda the personnel were already expecting me and as soon as i mentioned my name they immediately brought me to my room without even asking me to sign a guestbook or asking me for my passport. the room was spic n span and so was the bathroom - which was at another side of the building. everything was very clean and fresh and the wooden floor and walls freshly scrubbed and painted.

I would recommend this place for the solo or couple backpacker who want a quiet place to rest .

Room Tip: get a room on the second floor

Stayed there for 3 nights, the first night we had room nr. 2. There was a bad smell coming from the airco, after complaining we got a room upstairs. The staff is friendly and the outdoor seating area is a nice place to chat with the other guests. The guesthouse arranged a good daytrip for us for a very reasonable price. Location is good too, many restaurants just around the corner and a 10 minute walk from the old busstation.
