“Superb stay in Chiang Rai!”
Reviewed December 26, 2011

We stayed a week at Tony's Homestay in July 2011. We and our kids enjoyed it very much! They liked playing cards with Cindy and Nicky. The family bungalow was great: airco, tv, a great terrace, quietly located.
We rented a scooter and did some nice trips in the environment: waterfall, white temple, etc.
With the other guests we also did an excursion to the Golden Triangle: perfectly organized, good guide, great meal.
It was my husbands birthday when we were there: Tony putted some flags at the bungalow and managed to find a delicious birthday cake.
Homestay is situated between the rice paddies: for the children it was very interesting to see how it was planted. We liked walking through the fields at sunsets, hearing the monks singing their chants.
We recommend this stay to everyone who likes a quiet family-owned stay in a wonderful area, not crowded with tourists.

Room Tip: The family room in the garden is at our opinion the best: quietly located with a great terrace.

Homestay Chiang Rai was a blessing. The homestay is just out of the centre of Chiang Rai, about five minutes by car. Dutch owner Toony brings you to town if you like. This is a free of charge service.
Breakfast is served between 7.30 and 10.30 am. Rooms are spotless clean. Very helpfull staff. Toonie rents mountainbikes and scooters for a reasonable price. Homestay Chiang Rai has a perfect kitchen for afternoon snacks and dinner, cooked by Phaet, the Thai wife of Toonie. All meals are served at the swimmingpool. I will definitely go back to this homestay.

My wife and I have stayed here twice and love the place. While only 10 minutes or so from the City (a few kilometers outside) it is really already in the countryside with a great view over rice fields to a spectacular-looking temple at the foot of a massive karst. Just the type of stuff one goes to Thailand to see. Tooney (Dutch husband) and Paed (Thai wife) are great hosts, and it's fun just to hang out on their patio where Paed can whip up a meal to go with a frosty Chang or Leo beer at any time of the day. Tooney and Paed also can give good recommendations on where to eat outside, sights to take in and everything else you'll need to know about the area. We have been coming to Chiang Rai for years, have tried a lot of the hotels and guesthouses, and will only stay with Tooney and Paed from here on in.

Due to the current flood disaster in central Thailand, Chiang Rai was an unexpected stop on our itinerary but one we are really glad we made. It's a lovely bit of Thailand and staying at Homestay-Chiang Rai just confirmed the general positive feeling we had of this area. It's a small guesthouse, a short ride out of town in the middle of ricefields. Hosts Phaet and Toony have created a home away from home. Toony was away during the period we were there, but his wife Phaet made us feel very welcome and she took good care of our family. Our garden room was big enough and comfortable with a bunk bed for our young sons. There's a nice swimming pool, free wifi, good home cooked food, an enjoyable outside sitting and dining area, ideal for evening talks. It didn't disturb us staying outside the city center. Phaet could give us a lift to town or it was just a short, not that expensive, tuk tuk ride away. Bottom line, if you like a personal and sympathetic approach, we would really recommend this guesthouse. It's a great place to stay, especially with kids.

We've stayed at the Homestay-Chiang Rai for 17 days. Wished to stay longer but our Thai visa was almost expired. Nice quiet place near a rice field and not to far from downtown. Toony provides the transport to town every day. We fell very welcomed by the family. The garden room is a lovely clean room decorated with taste and at a reasonable price. The owners provide everything we needed, even an extra table for our laptop. We took all our meals at the homestay as Phaet is an excellent cook and the food always fresh. Don't miss her chicken rice red curry.
When it's not raining, the swimming pool is very refreshing and my wife enjoyed lying on the hammock with a good book.
Toony kindly organised various tours for us. A bit pricey but worth the price. Even provided private tour for only one person. Regular tour don't usually accept that. Phaet is an excellent guide int the forest and with her, we've learned a lot about Thailand and the tribe people. If you need a nice place to rest, away from the crowd, it's the best place to stay in chiang Rai

Room Tip: Look for the Garden room

If you look for a quiet place,
If you love a wonderfull view over de rice fields
If you love te enjoy good food
this is the place to be. The home stay is especially nice for a family with small children.
Pheat is a wonderfull cook, and makes you feel at home.
A small disadvantage is that it is 6km out of Chiang Rai wich makes you dependent of Toony. But he will bring you to town if you ask him to.
