“White temple”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

If you only see one thing in Chiang Rai, go see the this temple, frequently referred to as the White Temple. It is a few miles outside the city. According to the temple policy, only visitors with guides are allowed, but my wife and I just mingled through the entrance with one of the many tour groups.

“Truly amazing - make the effort to get to this one!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

Go to the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) on the outskirts of Chiang Rai.

It is inspiring, awesome, beautiful and thought-provoking. If you are suffering from Temple Fatigue, or the ABT tour of Thailand (Another Bl**dy Temple, paraphased from the ABC tour of Europe), this will cure you of the ailment.

Get a bus from Chiang Rai bus station (old one in the centre of town) for 20 bahts per person (they may try to charge you more), or a share taxi (normally a blue songthaew/pickup truck with benches) which should be at most 40 bahts per person and they may only charge you 20 bahts if you make it clear you could get the bus. The bus is easy but a long and hot sticky journey and it won't necessarily set off straight away.

“Fabulous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

Only sorry that we didn't have more time !!! We spent a couple of hours at this great place but would have liked to spend more. Don't miss the gallery because some of his paintings are wonderful. It says it will be 60 years before it is complete but my daughter could see that so much more had been completed in the two years since she had visited. Wasn't too keen on the signs saying that Europeans only allowed in the temple with a guide because of bad behaviour, we must have looked OK because they let us in ! Although it is extremely busy we didn't feel rushed.
The toilets are a must visit!

“Stunning place that worth to visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

If you travel around the world and think that you have seen everything .. this place will change your mind. It's a unique white temple created by an artist. Every scenes has its own story and you can also visit his gallery to see paintings. It only takes few hours travel from Chiangmai or Chiangrai.

Caution: during hot seasons, please bring your own hat or umbrella since it is a big landscape with sculptures without trees.

“Stunning”

Absolutely loved this Wat - it is stunning. The whole area is very clean and well maintained and the coffee shop across the road is the best coffee we have ever tasted.
