We really enjoyed our cooking lesson, where we made 5 courses of Thai and Akha hill tribe dishes. The staff are very attentive and knowledgeable, and have direct ancestry from local Akha hill tribes - the jackets and clothing made by Chef's grandmother are beautiful!
We started with a visit to the local market, where we bought freshly made coconut milk (not the clear liquid that you drink from the coconut, but the white liquid used for cooking), fresh vegetables and meat, and tried some hill tribe coffee.
Next we went back to the beautifully decorated and arranged cooking school, where we were welcomed with hibiscus juice and fresh pineapple, beautifully presented. Everything was beautifully presented - this is the nicest, most welcoming cooking school I've visited in Thailand or anywhere else.
There are separate areas for food preparation, cooking and eating - we ate at a gorgeous wooden dining table. Each dish was carefully explained, and during cooking Chef explained the correct process to ensure that the dish tastes as delicious as possible, including tasting suggestions to achieve the correct balance of sweet, salt, sour, etc. We feel confident to reproduce these tastes and dishes at home, which is not the case at other Thai cooking schools we've visited. The green curry was especially good, with rich taste and texture, and better than the great food we tried at the local restaurants.
Overall we're very pleased we visited and learnt at this cooking school and highly recommend it to others visiting Chiang Rai. We will definitely return during our next trip.

My partner and I took this class in late August and LOVED it. First, we emailed Jaruwan the night before, and she promptly got us in for an afternoon class the next day. We were able to personalize our menu of five items. The presentation of the ingredients was beautiful, and her instruction was excellent. I really appreciated knowing more about the order in which to add items to the mortar and pestle and the wok/pan.

The kitchen is clean and professional, and everything we cooked was delicious. As an added bonus, we felt great about supporting a young, ambitious, and kind entrepreneur. Her story is really impressive, and we appreciated her openness about her family, culture, and journey.

I recommend this class 100%.

From start to finish, it was a sensory delight. Experiencing the Market in the morning with Jaruwan set the tone for an amazing culinary experience. We started out on our adventure picking up fresh vegetables, meat, and herbs as we wove our way through the maze of market stalls. All the while, Jaruwan was happy to answer any and every question we had as we pointed out produce we had never seen before.

Back at the Kitchen, we were greeted with Hibiscus tea and fresh watermelon to prepare our tastebuds for courses that would follow. And what followed was simply amazing. The prep room, cooking stations and dining table are organized and attractive. Jaruwan and Armee and Daa work seamlessly together. Instructing, setting up for the next course and making us feel like part of their Akha Family.

We left with tons of new cooking knowledge that we are excited to implement in our own cuisine. Thanks for a Wonderful Class!

From the pickup at our Hotel to the drop off, everything was absolutely flawless!
I am also a Chef and a Restaurant General Manager and have high standards of Service, Food, and overall experiance. This day was also my wife 30est Birthday. And as we went to the cooking class without knowing what to expect, we arrived to a house that is owned by the Chef and being used to teach other people/Students her heritage and real thai flavours.
She had a lot of patients to all of our needs and questions and went above and beyond.
This is a well planned class and well invested time to learn the Akha people cooking techniques.
Thank you!!!

I had a wonderful experience with my wife cooking in Akha Kitchen! They pick you up in hotel and bring you to the market where you can taste and see many local products. The group is a small one, normally 8/10 people so you can learn really a lot. When you arrive in the school you will experience to cook 11 different dishes from Thai culture, and the best is that you can choose which one you want to learn. At the end of the cooking class which lasts from 9 am till 2 pm, you eat together with your class mates and then they drive you back home! Very nice experience!
