“Love the view!”
Reviewed March 5, 2014 via mobile

Our first impression was how beautiful the open air lobby is. It was a nice touch that after checking in, we were shown around the hotel and into our room. We had a corner room on the top floor overlooking the man made lake and hotel lobby building. Sitting on the balcony enjoying the sun was amazing. They have coiled mosquito repellent in an incense burner and matches to keep the pesky insects away. The rainfall shower head is always a nice addition to any shower stall. When we walked through the grounds, everyone was friendly, greeting us with big smiles.
Tip: If you're planning on going to Wat Rong Khun, the night market, or anywhere else for sightseeing, ask them to call a local taxi for you. They quoted 1000 THB return for Wat Rong Khun, when we only paid 400 THB return for a tuk tuk from the night market. Taxis to the airport are 200 THB, we paid 90 THB for a local taxi.

This is a stunning property in a picture book riverside setting. We had a ground floor Grande Deluxe room which was very modern with minimalist black and white decor and a huge, comfortable bed and great walk in shower. The room opened onto the garden, pool and river and we loved it. Breakfast was very good but we did not eat in the hotel restaurants, preferring to go down into Chiang Rai town which brings me to my only gripe. I cannot understand why a hotel of this class and quality charges guests 50 baht to catch the shuttle bus to and from town. Gripe over and we would love to revisit in the future.

The rooms are nice and the environment is tranquil. Its like another escape from normal urban life. Well but there are mosquitos in the room and the AC control is not functioning properly. Overall is very nice.

We stayed 2 days in mid February in Le Meridien and loved this quiet and luxurious hotel. Situated at the bank of the Kok river it offers splendid views far away from the crowds. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the breakfast superb and the pools inviting.
We would certainly come back when visiting Chiang Rai again.

A good 5 minutes by taxi or hotel shuttle (50baht pp each way) to downtown. A few shops and restaurants are close by. The hotel is on the banks of the river in very nice grounds. We tried both restaurants and were happy with both but the Italian was by far our favourite. We also had room service one evening which was delivered promptly. The food was hot, very tasty and eating on our balcony with a view to the river was a very pleasant experience as was the whole of our stay.

We spent five nights at this hotel and found the service in all areas to be exceptional. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport - we had private transport but the hotel has a shuttle that you can book (at a cost) as well.

Nice entry road lined with lanterns and the lobby was elegant and modern. Staff greeted us by name throughout our stay - showing a level of attention to detail that nowadays you don't get at many hotels. When I asked to confirm our airport transfer - the front desk staff went the extra mile and checked our flight as well - without even asking.

We had a deluxe room overlooking the pool and river. It was huge, immaculately clean and well-furnished. Almost looked brand new. The bathroom was large and fitted with both a large bathtub and walk-in shower that could have fit 6 people easily. ;o) If you are looking for a traditional Thai hotel or a lot of Thai culture - you will not get it at this hotel. It is, however, a very good Le Meridien with a bit of Thai flavour - mainly represented by the wonderful Thai staff.

There were several large dinners and group events going on at the time we were there - but we never felt neglected and it was still very peaceful. There was a construction site next to the hotel - but we never heard any construction noise. The grounds and gardens were well-maintained and there were lots of tropical flowers and flowering trees making for a pretty setting. The common areas of the hotel were also immaculately clean and quiet.

There pool was nice but not very big - and there were limited loungers - but even though the hotel was fairly full we never had a problem with getting a seat. Beware of mosquitos though.

Food in the main restaurant was of good quality - we had the buffet breakfast there daily and had no complaints - except that some of the guests and their children were very ill mannered and downright rude but that is not the fault of the hotel. In addition to the dinner buffet, the restaurant had an a-la-carte menu which had some gourmet Thai dishes that we sampled and found interesting. They made me a special salad upon request and it was delicious. We also tried Favola - the Italian restaurant next to the pool - and highly recommend it. It was one of the best Italian feasts we have had in a long time. It was closed for private parties for the last few days of our stay so we could only dine there once. There were many restaurants just outside the entrance of the hotel but we did not try any as we were happy with the hotel fare.

We used the spa extensively and found the treatments wonderful. We focused on the facials and the foot massages - both expertly done. They do not do manicures and pedicures - but will clean up and paint your nails if you bring your own polish and remover.

The hotel is a bit far from town - and they charge for the shuttle (50 baht each way) but it is a small price to pay for transport via a clean, fairly new and air-conditioned hotel van.

We went on a couple of excursions: the Golden Triangle half-day tour was interesting mostly for the fact that our guide was lively and very knowledgable. The trip also involved taking a river boat to Laos - when we alighted there was only shopping and restaurants and no opportunity to do or see anything else. We were ecstatic that for once we were not inundated by hawkers - either on the Thai side or the Laos side - making it all in all a pleasant trip.

Our second excursion was to the 'White Temple' - an unusual contemporary Thai temple - which we thought was beautiful and worth seeing. Although there were the usual cluster of shops around the temple - the hard sell we had encountered in previous years was conspicuously absent - and this was most welcome. Bravo!

During our stay there was some smoke/air pollution from farmers burning wood and rice stalks to prepare their land for new crops. But other than that - the people were wonderful and kind to us and we had a nice time.

I was in Le Meridien in Chang Mai and I wasn't happy. This is really better, a beautiful hotel in Chang Rai. Rooms were clean, beds are excellent and location too: i know it takes 10 minutes to get downtown, but I think I choose best solution. In fact after a full morning you can relax in the calm and silence of this hotel.
Self service dinner was good; breakfast too.
You will appreciate it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The resort occupies an idyllic 26-rai site directly on the banks of the Mae Kok River, moments from Chiang Rai town and a one hour drive from the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. The resort is set at the heart of beautiful landscaped gardens complete with a tranquil man-made lake and two majestic 100-year-old rain trees. Surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery, the neighbouring community is a jewel waiting to be explored. Nearby attractions include Rai Mae Fah Luang, Le Méridien's chosen UnLock Art site, and Oub Kham Museum which houses a collection of objects from the ancient Lanna kingdom, Myanmar, southwest China, and Vietnam. Nearby attractions include Wat Phra Kaew, the temple that once housed the Emerald Buddha, and the Hill Tribe Education Centre with its fascinating display of tribal artefacts and handicrafts. Boat trips along the Mae Kong River are available from the town of Chiang Khong, with stops along the way at villages of interest. Ethnic groups living in the province include Karen, Lisu, Lahu, Akha, Meo, and Yao, and it is possible to arrange treks into the hill tribe villages with experienced local guides. Mae Sai is 62 kilometres north of Chiang Rai and makes for an interesting day trip. This busy trading post borders Myanmar, and it is possible to cross the bridge to visit the bustling market in Tha Khi Lek. Phu Chi Fa is a spectacular viewpoint. The impressive views are best enjoyed early in the morning, particularly in the cool season when mist covers the valley floor. A highlight to any trip to Chiang Rai is a visit to the Doi Tung Development Project. Started as a royal initiative to help eradicate opium supply, drug use, and rural poverty, the project offers villagers with a practical and sustainable alternative. The project focuses on development, education, training, humanitarian activities, environmental conservation, agriculture, and the production of quality crafts.
