This hotel is beautifully designed. Every aspect of the interior design has been considered. The open reception, overlooks what appears to be a man made lake, within which the huge pool is situated, this is all set off by the river in the background. The effect is tranquil. Music & landscape lighting complete the picture. The rooms in the deluxe wing would not be out of place in a New York boutique hotel, except that these rooms are huge, with walk in closets & lovely balconies overlooking the pool. There is a generous happy hour/s, 5-8pm, where hand crafted cocktails are served. Breakfast is a feast, however this same room is used for an evening buffet & unfortunately not enough attention has been given to changing the ambience which is too stark to enjoy an evening meal. Instead we tried the Italian restaurant, which had a nice atmosphere but sadly the food was only mediocre. The staff were courteous & efficient, however a luxury hotel in a hot climate should provide a turndown service. One towel per person per, day felt a bit measly.

We spent 2 nights here as part of our 17 night trip to Thailand. It was the highlight of our trip. All aspects of the hotel exceeded our expectations, room was large and lovely, breakfast was good, staff were accommodating and polite, service in the Italian restaurant was outstanding and food was great too. We seriously could not drag ourselves away from this place, we did some touring on our way into Chiang Rai and spent the following day on a tour but both afternoons and evenings were spent at the resort, just lovely. Cocktails during happy hour were great too and the kids loved the free wifi in the latitude bar at the same time, we ate from the bar menu too, it was great. We didn't do much exploring around Chaing Rai but we figure, we have left plenty of things to do next time!

We enjoyed a lovely two-night stay here. The reception was very welcoming with cold green tea and we were shown around the resort and then to our room.

The resort is about 10-minutes (50 baht/€2.50) cab ride from the city center and the hotel also features a complimentary shuttle bus every two hours. The gardens are stunning and overall the grounds are very well kept.

The resort has a very secluded private feeling over it.

As Platinum SPG member we received an spacious Deluxe Garden Wing Room, which overlooks the pool area and the gardens. The room was very spacious, with a large bathroom with rain shower and separate bathtub as well as a separate toilet and dressing room. A very good bed, modern Asian furniture and a a separate seating area.

We enjoyed cocktails at the bar, which were very well crafted and presented. Breakfast was good too, with a good selection of spreads, cooked to order eggs as well as some Asian specialties. Internet is fast and was complimentary as part of SPG Platinum membership. Also we were offered a complimentary drink and coffee per person per day.

Staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable – they remember your name, room number, seating preferences and drink preferences and even remembered which excursions we did and asked how we liked them.

Overall this is a high-quality property, which we would recommend and would definitely return to for future trips.

Room Tip: Deluxe Garden Wing Rooms are more spacious and offer better views.

Dear MarkWijman

How kind you are. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this detailed review. When guests are so generous with their time to post a Trip Advisor review, I do think it’s important that I do the courtesy of responding.

Firstly, I must thank you for highlighting the services of our team in your review. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to recognize their great work. They were delighted by your comments and warm words.

I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed cocktails at the Bar and especially Breakfast. We do spend a lot of time making sure that we get our breakfast a perfect as possible. It is the one meal that we all tend to rush in our daily busy lives and so when we are on vacation time, it is a meal when guests have the time to linger a little longer, and therefore a great opportunity for us to be creative - and make breakfast special.

Finally, thank you again for posting these comments – always reviewed, valued and appreciated.

Kind regards

Stephen

We stayed one night in this very large hotel. We had been staying for several days in a very rural area well outside of Chiang Rai and wanted one night in the city before flying to Southern Thailand. The hotel is located away from the central areas of the city, but there is a shuttle that drops you off and picks you up at specified times and places. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, our room was spacious and comfortable, the pool was relaxing, and the included breakfast was very good. We also ate dinner at one of hotel restaurants and the food was pricey but delicious. Guests pay extra for in-room WiFi, a service most other hotels provide for free, although there is free access in the hotel lobby and restaurants. The staff of the hotel was very accommodating and pleasant. At one point, an unexpected and urgent need arose for me to send a scan of materials back to our home in the US, and the staff was exceptionally helpful in assisting us.

Although it might not be fair to draw conclusions from a one night stay, certain negatives are worth mentioning. After checking into our room, we were surprised to find a “Dear Guest” letter on the bed notifying us that there would be no electrical power in the room for most of the afternoon. Even after power was restored, there was no air conditioning in the room for the entire night, for which the staff offered apologies the following morning. Luckily, rain had cooled things off earlier in the day. We also used the complimentary hotel shuttle to be dropped off at one of the sights in Chiang Rai, but the promised pick-up never happened and we took a cab back to the hotel. All of these incidents may well have been beyond the control of the hotel staff, but, nevertheless, although we were generally comfortable at Le Meridien, our stay wasn't completely satisfactory, especially for the price. Still, we found the hotel overall relaxing and comfortable, and we appreciated the complimentary shuttle to the airport the next morning.

We were due to be in northern Thailand and booked into the Le Meridien Chiang Rai for a few days prior to our business. We were upgraded on arrival and I must say this is a classy hotel! As it was off season on Thailand there were very few people at the resort which is enormous. The room was great - the bed very comfortable and the service (as is a Thai thing) was exceptional.
I have stayed in various hotels in Chiang Rai over the years and I would say this is definitely the classiest we have been at. The breakfast in the restaurant was great and the other restaurant we ate at (an Italian one – of all things) was very cheffy and pretty nice.
This is quite an expensive hotel in Thai terms but still a great deal for western prices. I would recommend this resort highly.

Room Tip: we got an upgrade to the best suite in the house - we thought it was worth the few extra dollars it...

We stayed at this hotel during our honeymoon in Chang rai. It wasn't my first choice hotel but it was the one I could find and it safest choice.
We are very pleased with the overall hotel.
The rooms are ok, not spectacular or anything but ok for what you pay. They are large which is nice.
The bathroom is not very nice but acceptable.

The service is excellent and that includes everyone including housekeeping.

Chiang Rai is a beautiful town with wonderful sightseeing spots. In the past, there was a lacking of a suitable hotel in a resort surrounding for visiting tourist. The Le Meridien Chiangmai Rai Resort fill in this gap perfectly. We always enjoyed their deluxe rooms located next to the swimming pool which through the garden had direct access to the pool. Their main restaurant which served extensive international buffet breakfast was a jewel. Do allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy the food as well as the beautiful surrounding. There are both air conditioning indoor and fresh air outdoor for your choice. With an iPad you can enjoy the morning in this relax atmosphere of the North.

Dear Charn P

You are really very kind. Thank you for these delightful comments. It was a pleasure to welcome you as our guests.

I am delighted to know that you enjoyed your room – in your good comments, I’m so glad that you liked the direct access to the pool.

Thank you for your comments regarding breakfast. It’s really wonderful to hear them. We have spent a lot of time designing our breakfast offering to try to get it right. When staying at a resort, we find that guests will often linger a little longer over breakfast, and so we felt it was important to make this a special meal…and to have dishes to suit all palates. We particularly wanted to make sure that we would appeal to both Asian and Western palates. I am so happy to read your comment and to know that you enjoyed our breakfast.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments and to post this review. Much appreciated. I do hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you as our guest again in Chiang Rai.

Kind regards

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The resort occupies an idyllic 26-rai site directly on the banks of the Mae Kok River, moments from Chiang Rai town and a one hour drive from the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. The resort is set at the heart of beautiful landscaped gardens complete with a tranquil man-made lake and two majestic 100-year-old rain trees. Surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery, the neighbouring community is a jewel waiting to be explored. Nearby attractions include Rai Mae Fah Luang, Le Méridien's chosen UnLock Art site, and Oub Kham Museum which houses a collection of objects from the ancient Lanna kingdom, Myanmar, southwest China, and Vietnam. Nearby attractions include Wat Phra Kaew, the temple that once housed the Emerald Buddha, and the Hill Tribe Education Centre with its fascinating display of tribal artefacts and handicrafts. The impressive views are best enjoyed early in the morning, particularly in the cool season when mist covers the valley floor. A highlight to any trip to Chiang Rai is a visit to the Doi Tung Development Project. Started as a royal initiative to help eradicate opium supply, drug use, and rural poverty, the project offers villagers with a practical and sustainable alternative. The project focuses on development, education, training, humanitarian activities, environmental conservation, agriculture, and the production of quality crafts.
