“Excellent customer service, beautiful room decor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

My husband and I were visiting Chiang Rai to see the white temple. We were pleasantly surprised by this resort.
Front Desk - We were checked in by Ooey who escorted us to our room with a brief tour of the property. Her English was the best that we encountered in Thailand over a week and a half, and she was extremely helpful.
Restaurant - Breakfast buffet was quite good each morning
Bar/Lounge - Cheeky Monkey drink was really good and the staff were very attentive
Pool - temperature was a little too cool, but the lounge chairs were comfortable and we enjoyed a day getting some sun
Location - nice and close to the airport, however, there isn't anywhere to really walk to if you want to see the area (we walked for 20 mins one night to see what was nearby and were disappointed we didn't find anything that really interested us).
Gift Shop - reasonably priced shop but were disappointed our marble elephant was poorly wrapped and had a small chip in it when we got it home even with very careful handling in our carry-on luggage...
Concierge - Helpful staff and informative
Guest Rooms - best hotel sheets I have ever experienced. Absolutely the softest sheets and I want to purchase some for my home! The room decor was very trendy. Bed was extremely comfortable.

Overall I would recommend this resort... Approx 25 mins to the white temple (which is amazing).

Room Tip: We liked our room located near the pool.

Dear tropics_11

Thank for your great comments about service and your experience at our resort. It was a pleasure to welcome you at the hotel. I shared your feedback with the team and they positively beamed when they heard your warm words!
I was sorry to learn that your marble elephant was poorly wrapped had been disappointing. I’m never proud to know when we have disappointed a guest but I am always grateful for the feedback so that we can review, learn and improve. We took your comments and immediately reviewed the product wrapping process in our kiosk. Thanks for highlighting the need. I am delighted to know that you enjoyed our LM Bed and sheets– we are delighted to inform you that these are our signature items and they can also be delivery to your house door.

I do hope that we will have the pleasure to welcome you to Chiang Rai again in the future.
Warm regards

This is probably one of the best resort type hotels I have stayed in away from the beaches.
It is located on the Kok river and offers a very serene environment.

Enjoy the local restaurants (great Thai style food) or dine in the hotels restaurants.

Recharge your batteries at this place.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the river or at least with a river view. This adds to the serenity along...

Dear DOLPHINAAR,

Thank you for posting your comments about Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort.
I'm thrilled to read your positive comments and would be delighted to host you back in a near future.
Although the overall feedback is excellent, I'm sorry to read your mixed feelings about the food.
Please accept my apologies if we were not good enough to reach your expectations and be assured I've already briefed my Chef in order to improve whatever needs to be. Can you please tell me which restaurant or bar you have visited, please?
As for the drinks, the very high Thai taxes on wines are a challenge for hospitality business but I'm always working- and tasting! - on finding the best deals for my guests.
Once again, thanks for your post and receive my very best regards,

We stayed in Grand Deluxe Room. The room itself is huge with all the modern amenities and a balcony facing swimming pool. Bathroom is of good size too, however slightly dated, design of bathtub is awkward ie when we filled the bathtub, the water would flown onto the floor caused flooding and there are some areas in bathroom that were not thoroughly cleaned. Otherwise, overall the room is good. I love the spaciousness.

Service at front desk was great, friendly, efficient and helpful. They helped us arrange for transfer and reservation promptly.

The hotel ground is stunning. Can spend hours lounging by the swimming pool overlooking the Mekong river. The garden, bridge, the pond - everything is lovely.

Parvati Spa is a must try, it is beautifully set up, cosy and service was excellent. We tried sense massage and 1.5hr aroma with thai herbal compress. Both were good.

Breakfast was slightly disapponting. Hmm the choice of food wasnt extensive, taste was so-so, and service was just okay.

Food at Favola was good, wasnt pricey, service was friendly and helpful but a tad too slow. We had to wait ten minutes just to get a menu. Perhaps more staffs should be appointed at the restaurant during meal hours.

Overall, yes, I would recommend the grand deluxe room in Le Meridien to anyone visiting Chiang Rai

Dear Syllaw,

First of all, thank you for staying with us and for your your time sharing your feedback.
I'm thrilled to read you enjoyed your stay with us and I look forward to having you back in a near future!
As for the breakfast, i'm really sorry if we did not meet your expectation about the food as we do offer more than the minimum required for our hotel brand. I do anyway apologise about the taste if it wasn't good enough and I already have briefed my team to improve whatever needs to be.
Same for the service. Thank you for your feedback which definitely help us to stay focus!
I do look for more associates in both restaurants to be honest and we may be a bit slow when busy, sorry about it.
We actually welcomes a new staff member in the team just recently which will bring the service speed to its normal standard.
Thanks a lot for your feedback and warm regards,

Many, many thanks to Keiko for making arrangements for our group stay at the resort for New Year's Eve and to Justin and all staff for creating beyond-expectations experiences for my undergraduate students. We cannot thank you enough for your assistance, support, and dedication to creating special memories for all involved. All raved about the resort and their New Year's Eve experience for days after. We look forward to future stays at this property. K&G

Very nice hotel right on a small river in Chiang Rai. Room was bright and modern with safe and mini bar. Breakfast was a nice buffet with many Eastern and Western choices.
They have a boat that will take you on a 5 minute ride to The Flower Festival which was the highlight of Chiang Rai. There are flowers displayed along the river and it is worth the trip
Hotel has a very nice pool area and place for drinks along the river.

This was my second trip to Le Meridien and I was not disappointed. I look forward to my arrival with great anticipation because I know what is in store for me. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by the friendly staff and welcomed back by those who remembered me from my previous stay. The hotel is always impeccable and inviting. The lobby is comfortable and is a great place to just sit and relax for any length of time. The staff is friendly and helpful, always available to assist in any way possible.

The entire complex is spectacular and offers a wonderful place to stay. The grounds are impeccable, the rooms are clean and offer wonderful features such as rain showers and a large tub where you can sit and relax after a day of touring in Chiang Rai. The hotel offers vouchers to those guest who don't need to have their linens changed daily and those can be used at the bar or the restaurants. This was a nice touch.

The breakfast buffet offered a variety of foods that were delightful. There were daily offerings of various pastries, soups, vegetables, fruit, rice and other dishes. The latte's were delicious and were the top request for most of the group. Breakfast was an anticipated event for each day of our stay. We had a table outside and it was a most enjoyable experience every day.

It was a pleasure to stay here once again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The resort occupies an idyllic 26-rai site directly on the banks of the Mae Kok River, moments from Chiang Rai town and a one hour drive from the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. The resort is set at the heart of beautiful landscaped gardens complete with a tranquil man-made lake and two majestic 100-year-old rain trees. Surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery, the neighbouring community is a jewel waiting to be explored. Nearby attractions include Rai Mae Fah Luang, Le Méridien's chosen UnLock Art site, and Oub Kham Museum which houses a collection of objects from the ancient Lanna kingdom, Myanmar, southwest China, and Vietnam. Nearby attractions include Wat Phra Kaew, the temple that once housed the Emerald Buddha, and the Hill Tribe Education Centre with its fascinating display of tribal artefacts and handicrafts. Boat trips along the Mae Kong River are available from the town of Chiang Khong, with stops along the way at villages of interest. Ethnic groups living in the province include Karen, Lisu, Lahu, Akha, Meo, and Yao, and it is possible to arrange treks into the hill tribe villages with experienced local guides. Mae Sai is 62 kilometres north of Chiang Rai and makes for an interesting day trip. This busy trading post borders Myanmar, and it is possible to cross the bridge to visit the bustling market in Tha Khi Lek. Phu Chi Fa is a spectacular viewpoint. The impressive views are best enjoyed early in the morning, particularly in the cool season when mist covers the valley floor. A highlight to any trip to Chiang Rai is a visit to the Doi Tung Development Project. Started as a royal initiative to help eradicate opium supply, drug use, and rural poverty, the project offers villagers with a practical and sustainable alternative. The project focuses on development, education, training, humanitarian activities, environmental conservation, agriculture, and the production of quality crafts. At the summit of Doi Tung, visitors can visit Phra That Doi Tung, a chedi constructed in 911 A.D and one of the oldest and most sacred sites in northern Thailand. The chedi is said to contain the collarbone of Buddha. Le Méridien Chiang Rai Resort, Thailand is located close to the town centre and a short drive from Chiang Rai Airport. ... more   less
