I stayed at the Meridien Chaing Rai for one night as part of a tour to north Thailand. The hotel is in a magnificent location on the river. Rooms are very nice and with all the amenities. Air conditioning is quite noisy, however. It has to be underlined that the corridors are rather basic and not very properly lit so they do not appear as very nice. The walls of these corridors are surpriingly bare so one is not very pleasantly welcomed when getting off the lifts. Breakfast is nice and served in a beautiful room on the river.

The overall trip was great with great service, beautiful rooms and tasty food. This is our first time in the city of chiang rai, and we enjoyed it very much. The trip has left a great memory of the uniqueness of Northern part of thailand.

We were upgraded to Grande deluxe rooms. Extremely high ceilings, beautiful and clean bathrooms. Comfortable beds and simple but beautiful decor. The senior staff were very hands on and in particular the check in manager and food and beverages director were very helpful. Wonderful landscape and the team seem to have genuine pride in working there. We were there for their 4th yr anniversary and there was a Buddhist ceremony in the garden which was very educational. If i had any negative points to note, it would be the restaurant service.... it would be better if they waited till the entire table had finished eating before clearing the plates. ..I think Renaud picked up on this. 2ndly during breakfast (which is excellent) - the staff just didn't pay attention to NEW table setting after the initial big groups had left - i.e we had to ask for side plates and cups for tea/ coffee. That said, the solo bartender made excellent cocktails and the staff at the entrance were very polite and welcoming. Would recommend this place!

Room Tip: ask for river facing block if possible. 3rd/ 4th floor best.

Located next to and overlooking the Kok river which is a tributary of the Mekong River this hotel have a scenic view. This is also supported by the huge lake and garden on the property. Walking on the small bridge over the lake at night when the lights are turned on gives a magical feeling especially when its Christmas times and additional lights are brought out. In a walking distance down the road you will find plenty of restaurants that offer the same scenic view and wonderful atmosphere and food, again specially at night. The road also have a convenience store. Stay here when you want to check out the hill tribes or take a day trip to Tachileik border town in Myanmar.

Room Tip: In my opinion the rooms on ground floor takes away most of the privacy. Go for the rooms on the top...

My wife and I have just finished a 5 night stay at the Le Meridien Chiang Rai in a Grande Deluxe room on the 3rd floor. The room was very spacious and clean with a large balcony to sit and watch the sun go down or watch the Mae Kok river and pool area. The room had plenty of spaces to sit around and look at the Ipad or netbook. They had 2 universal power sockets on a connection console to charge your phones, etc. The bed was big and firm but not too hard. Room service was great. The reception area staff were quick and friendly and very helpful. They have a free shuttle bus service running every 2 hours between 10am and 8pm. The buses go to the city near the night bazzar or the Central Plaza shopping centre. Booking is a must. The buffet breakfast had quite a few options and the views from the dining room was very relaxing. We had a few drinks in the Lattitude 19 bar after a tough day at the markets. They make a pretty good classic mojito. On the last day we decided to try the 60 minute Thai massage for me a nd the 90 minute oil herbal heat massage at the Parvati Spa for my wife. This is a great place to relax.

Your comments regarding service are a joy to read. Whenever we receive a Trip Advisor review, we always share it with our hotel team at the daily morning meeting. The team beamed when they heard your warm words. Thank you for highlighting the Shuttle van schedule, Breakfast Beffet, Mojito as well as the couples massage at the spa. I am delighted that we made your stay special and memorable.

I do hope that we will have the pleasure to welcome you again in the Lanna kingdom again.

It is very nice in terms of architecture and lansdscape but I would say it needs some renovation. You can see it must have been the top as it was opened, but nowadays some details may need some attention -mainly in rooms. Ours had damp stains in the bathroom, both in the ceiling and the floor. Also note they are quite far from the city, but they have complimentary shuttles to take you to and from there at certain hours. As for the rest, breakfast was very nice, also the pool area.

Dear BauldelaPiquer

Many thanks for writing and informing us about your experience at Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort. We're a 4 year new resort and maintenance is a high priority for open air resorts such as ours, and we indeed have quite a comprehensive program in place here. I'm definintely aware of the stains in some of our rooms, as this was a result of application at the time of building. We are in fact replacing all bathroom tiles of the rooms affected as we speak, and have already completed a number of them. I'm confident our solution will address this issue for good, but appreciate your comment as I too agree we need to do something.

I'm very pleased you enjoyed the architecture, landscape, breakfast and our pool area and thank you again for taking time the write.

Best wishes

Justin

From the moment we entered up till the time we left, the service at the resort was outstanding. Everyone went out of there way to make you feel welcome. Of course you're used to that at B&B, but not always at big hotels. I think the rating should technically be 4.5 stars, but due to the excellent service I tipped it over to a 5 rather than round down to a 4.
I went to the spa on my second day there and felt instantly relaxed by the ambiance. I had my own suite complete with dressing room, bathroom, in-door and out-door shower and of course the bed where I got my body-scrub and facial. Before the treatment started, I told the front-desk lady that my left ankle had swelling. She immediately got me an ice-pack and made sure that area wasn't touched. When I came out of the spa, the director of food and beverages, Renaud, was already waiting there for me. He offered to take me to the doctor for the ankle (didn't need one) and then had the ice-pack refrozen and brought up to my room. When we entered the bar area, the waiters there even asked me how my ankle was doing and if I liked my spa treatment; everyone seemed to know me personally. I also noticed that Renaud went out of his way to speak with every single guest at the restaurant and made them feel welcome.
The property itself is tranquil. The only down side, and the reason why I would give it a 4.5, is that the place needs a bit of an upgrade. The management has kept the place clean and in good condition but you could tell it's a bit old. Also the shower's temperature would fluctuate between scalding hot and then back to normal, which got to be a little annoying.

Dear HumptyDumptyJ0urney

Thanks again for taking time to write to us about your experience at Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort recently. I say again, as I'm sure we were corresponding this week over email, as I'd sent you a reply to a thank you email you'd sent Renaud. As mentioned in my mail, I was disappointed we didn't have the chance to meet in person, as I've only returned from a holiday myself and just missed you.

I'm was thrilled to read how well both of you were looked after by our team, and I've already shared your email with the team earlier this week. The spa is also a favourite place of mine in the resort and I'm happy you were able to experience it. We're also undertaking minor work in some of our rooms and pool area to keep them fresh, running an open air resort does require constant focus and we're definitely committed to doing so.

Wishing you safe travels on your wonderful extended holiday.

Best wishes

Justin

The resort occupies an idyllic 26-rai site directly on the banks of the Mae Kok River, moments from Chiang Rai town and a one hour drive from the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. The resort is set at the heart of beautiful landscaped gardens complete with a tranquil man-made lake and two majestic 100-year-old rain trees.
