I stayed at this resort for two nights. The property is beautiful. It's very spread out so finding your way around can be a challenge if you're directionally challenged, but there are lots of signs. The lobby is on the third floor and the breakfast dining room is on the first floor.

My room was really big! It came with a very comfortable bed (gotta love the Starwood mattresses!) and linens, a walk-in closet with robes and slippers, and a big bathroom with separate bathtub and shower stall. You get the usual toiletries and two complimentary bottles of water. The tv is big and reception is excellent. There's a good variety of channels including BBC, CNN, and HBO. I didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but there are a few choices including room service. The breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of fresh food, custom fresh smoothies, and Thai, Chinese, and American/Western favorites.

The hotel has free wifi in public areas, but if you have a room facing the pool then you can pick up a signal. You have to get a login code and password from the front desk for free wifi everyday. The pool area is beautiful with an infinity pool overlooking the river. If you don't want to eat at the hotel restaurants then the hotel offers free shuttle dropoff and pickup to the Chiang Rai night market. Alternatively, there are a few decent local restaurants (good eats for cheap) down the street. Walk out of the lobby and down the hill to the main road and turn right. Walk approximately 2-4 minutes and the restaurants are to your right.

OH...last thing. This property also has lots of geckos. You can see some during the day, but they mostly come out at night. If you're squeamish like me then make sure to enter and exit your room fast so they don't get a chance to creep in.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool in the Starwood Preferred wing so you can pick up the free wifi signal.

Dear i-gots-wanderlust

It is great news that you found your stay with us a pleasant one! This is truly music to our ears. We take great pride in knowing we are doing it right and will continue to provide such uncompromising service to our guests.

I do note your comment about geckos, as our resort is open environment so it's easy to find them around even we try our best to control them. However, some of our guests like to see them because the geckos make the guest feel like they are staying close to the natural.

Should your future travels bring you back to Chiang Rai, feel free to contact me directly - I will personally ensure that your next stay with us will be a most enjoyable and comfortable one.

With best regards
Chaiporn

The rooms are large and clean. Designed in more conemporary style Lanna architecture. The layout is fairly good at the river. Breakfast is quite good as well as Favola, the Itialian restaurant. The staff is outstanding and very polite as expected from a five star. The location is a bit away from the town. Nothing else is in the immediate vacinity, although the hotels does provide a limited shuttle into the town, mall as well as a museum(use room key to visit the museum free). Overall a nice stay.

A really good hotel just away from the bustle of the town but keeping its proximity whilst providing the tranquillity of the river . the internet needs up grading. it works but does not have enough capacity/band width. we also experienced this in the Chedi in Chiang mai, another great hotel so it may be a northern Thailand problem. the rooms large and spacious, some small issues with the floor being cleaned but nothing too significant. the service and attention of the staff when requested for assistance was first rate.

Room Tip: upper floor that is 3 or 4 with river view. otherwise its a big hotel complex and you might get hidden away in a corner

The grounds of the hotel are really nice and maintained very well. Pool is large with three different sections. Rooms are nice and large especially the SPG wings. If you are not used to the slow speed at which the Thai provide service, you may get frustrated, but this is not unique to this hotel, just relax pool side and embrace the Thai-ness. Our only issue with this hotel was the water pressure in the showers, really poor, if you are a plumber you could make a mint in Thailand. If you stay here, make sure to go on the hike in the jungle with an elephant ride.

Room Tip: be a gold or platinum SPG member

We stayed at the LM Chiang Rai for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon in Thailand. We should have stayed there at the end of our trip, because this hotel set the bar very high for the rest of our destinations! The property is very beautiful and serene. As an SPG Platinum member, we were upgraded to a Grand Suite, which was very large with high ceilings, big bathroom with separate tub (big enough for two!) and large shower. The bed was VERY comfortable and the linens were some of the softest I have slept on (better than the other two Le Meridiens we stayed at in Thailand). The staff was very welcoming and friendly, and spoke good english. The breakfast (compliementary with our Plantinum status) was wonderful each morning with made-to-order omelettes, crepes, etc, as well as a large selection of both eastern and western items.
This property is a bit off the main center of town, but it is only at 200 baht taxi ride to town.
The food and drink at the hotel was a bit expensive compared to the local area, but on par for a 5 star hotel. One other nice feature for Platinum guests was a complimentary drink each day at the bar. We stayed at 2 other Le Meridiens in Thailand during our trip, and neither other hotel offered this amenity.
Overall, great hotel, quiet, good for couples, honeymooners.
In terms of Chiang Rai town, it is a great home-base for exploring the countryside in northern Thailand. I wish we had longer than 3 days here. I highly recommend the Chiang Rai Bicycle Tour with Mr. Bee.

I had thought that our food & drink prices were competitive with other hotels in Chiang Rai, but I will check again. It is important to me that our guests feel that they received value for money. I am however always grateful for the feedback so that we can learn and improve.

Please do let me know if I may ever be of service in the future. I hope to welcome you to Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort again.
