“Gorgeous hotel, very far from town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014 via mobile

Hotel was beautiful!! Pool was gorgeous! There is NO beach though. At least not one you can walk on or swim in.
The hotel is in a weird, awkward location. 20 minutes away from the actual city of Hua Hin. Although there are numerous salons, restaurants, 7/11, which kept us occupied in between visits to the city.
They do have a shuttle back and forth to the city, but it fills up quickly and sometimes not available for days!
We ate dinner at the ocean view restaurant, but had a bad experience with the bartender. We paid for drinks and they were watered down and terrible. I asked them to remake them and this time watched him put half a shot of alcohol in a $7 drink. I ended up drinking wine! It kind of put a damper on the evening
The dinner we ate was awesome though. They do have happy hours throughout the hotel at different locations.
Overall it was an awesome stay, and it would recommend a stay here!

Stayed at this resort for a week in January and loved it. Whilst an older hotel décor is nice and modern and rooms are spacious and clean with a nice view of the ocean. The pool at this hotel is lovely with plenty of deck chairs for sunbathing as well as hammocks for those who just want to relax. The beach in front of the hotel is almost non-existent although anyone who did their research should know this before making their booking. You can however, walk a short way up the beach if you feel the need for sand. The food at the hotel is reasonably priced and tsty and if it is not to your liking because of price, there are several restaurants within walking distance where you can purchase breakfast, lunch or tea and a couple of small bars if you would like cheap cocktails. There is also a well stocked 7/11 so you can purchase supplies. I loved this hotel and am a little perplexed by some of the reviews who are more critical. Many of the complaints are about things people should already have known about had they done their research. It is not in Hua Hin or Cha Am but you can get a shuttle bus provided free by the hotel to Hua Hin and the night market at Cha Am. Just make sure you book a day or so ahead. Taxis aren't cheap and if you are reluctant to pay what they ask, then walk up to the main road and catch the local bus. Put your hand up and it will stop and it costs almost nothing. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it, especially for the price.

Room Tip: Higher up you get a better view but almost all rooms have a view of the sea.

Dear darl60,

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback with us following your recent stay at Novotel Hua Hin Cha Am Beach Resort & Spa. I am delighted to read how much you appreciated spending time by the pool and walking along the beach in the late afternoon.

I am especially pleased that you enjoyed the breakfast and our complimentary shuttle bus service. Your kind words will be passed onto all staff and I am sure they will happy to hear from you too. I hope it would not be too long to see you again.

Kind Regards,

I am always amused by reviewers of hotels who have not done their home work prior to booking / arriving at the hotel. The Novotel is a hotel that if you have not done your research that you may be sadly led astray on what it's location is or what is on offer.

As many previous reviewers have stated the Novotel is not in Hua Hin that is over 15 km away. It is also not in Cha Am as that is about 8 km away. If you want a holiday with lots of bar and restaurant action then this is not the hotel for you.

The Novotel also unfortunately does not have a nice beach area in front of it. At the moment the tide according to expat locals is extra high, so there is no beach a t all most of the day. If you walk 100 metres to the right you will get to a nice beach area - tide permitting - or 400 metres to the left and you will get good beach. No matter where you go from cha am to hua hin the water quality is ordinary and there are large jellyfish in the sea. When you walk along the beach you will see them washed up on the beach. People do swim in the water but we chose not to.

If you want to lie on the sand then you need to choose another hotel or be prepared to go somewhere else.

Then why do people come here?

It is very good value for money! The basic room is large enough for two. It has an excellent view of the sea, great balcony. Bed is on the hard side but the pillows we had were very soft! The bathroom is clean and a very good shower. Flat screen tv.

We are advantage plus members so the food was 50 per cent off but only 15 per cent for buffets. Even with the discount the meal prices are not exorbitant and with the discount as cheap if not cheaper than the village restaurants. The food quality was good. We ate lunch here most days and every meal was of a good to very good standard. There are 3 different happy hours in the 3 bars. You get two for one drinks during happy hour. We particularly liked the sushi bar. The sushi was of a good quality, fresh and tasty. The cold cut platter was also good beer food.

For me the reason you choose this hotel is o be of two reasons. You are after a relaxing lie around the pool time or you are a family taking advantage of kids stay free and a good kids club. The weekends is a popular time for Thais to stay here and there are lots of families her then. Even on the weekend when the hotel was almost full we had no hassle getting a sun lounge and the pool was not overly crowded. During the week days there were no hassles at all. The pool is excellent for a hotel at this price level. We travel 3 to 4 times a year and it is one of the better pool areas for the price that we have seen. I do though agree that that it is odd that the pool bar is connected to the shallow kid pool area. They even give out pool floaties to use in the pool. The towels are on the old and thin side and probably should be replaced.

We found all of the staff we dealt with to be friendly, to have good to acceptable English and to be very helpful. No negatives to report on the staff side.

A previous reviewer spoke about the drain / river that runs passed one side of the hotel. We did not smell any foul odour from it and so was not an issue for us. Similarly we were not affected nor did we Se any large burning off of a morning.

I do agree that the shuttle bus is an issue. It actually only takes 10 people. Though it looked like most of the other hotel chains had similarly small shuttle buses at the drop off point in hua hin. I do note that is very common in Thailand for hotels not to overly compete with the local taxi drivers! In krabi we had to pay to use a shuttle bus at the Sofitel!

The local expats told us if you want to get into hua hin cheaply to walk up to the highway and wait for a local orange bus. Put out your hand and they will stop for you and that they are cheap. We did not try it but were assured that it was not difficult.

The resort is a a short 400 metre walk to a seven eleven and a bit further toa. Restaurant strip.
There are over a dozen cheap thai restaurants serving fairly cheap meals. If you are after and an English breakfast try J & K,s which thoughts as the best or Harry.s bar which is closer. There are also several massage and beauty salons in the area.

If you want a cheap drink we highly recommend the Bar of Life which is just off the Main Street next to the family restaurant which is also popular. Drinks at Bar of Life are only 100 baht each! Snacks are also good value at 50 baht and 80 baht for meals. Cookie is a great host and it is the most popular of the bars for the long stay expats.

The one small complaint I,d make it is a long walk from your room to the pools. There area lot of stairs to go up and down with your pool gear.

One complaint by reviewers is the lift. We were lucky as we had no long waits in our week here nor never had to get out of it because of over crowding.

So overall we would gladly return to the Novotel but you are after somewhere near the action of Cha Am or Hua Hin or a sandy beach to lie on and blue clear water to swim in then you need to look elsewhere.
