“Quiet and Kid Friendly - But shop around, Cha am is dying a slow death so there are many deals to be had!”
Reviewed January 4, 2012

I have just spent two weeks at this hotel, and generally it i what you would expect from a 4* Star Hotel. We benefited from a great deal and got one of the larger rooms, thus no complaints on that front.

To cut to the chase though, areas that need improvement:
1. Elevators - they are slow (a record wait of 6 minutes on boxing day) and don't seem to have any logic (i.e all up or all down etc).

2. As other have mentioned, the staff are superb but the Pool Service is incredibly slow as there is one member of staff doing the whole area, he is very efficient but no one man can be expected to do it all. The same goes for the Havana Lounge, where after a wait of 15mins for the barmen to comeback form another part of the hotel, I leant over and printed my own bill from the register, signed it and left!

3. There is no wireless in the rooms, but if you are on the left side of the Hotel as you look at it from the front you can access the hotel next door's free wireless Internet!

4. For the Gym Junkies, as per standard in Asia hotels (in my experience) the Gym floor is completely inappropriate..highly polished shiny wood! And they have placed the treadmills etc under the low part of the ceiling..not so good for those 6ft and above!

Those areas aside it is a very pleasant hotel and the Kids Club was enjoyed by my daughter.

My advice: shop around; Cha-am is dying a slow death so there are plenty of hotels in the area who will have specials on, including this one.

Room Tip: GEt a room on the left hand side of the building to access "External Wirless Internet"

We stayed here for 10 days with 2 small kids with objective of kids entertainment; relax, good standard (not luxury) and we got it
Location: very quite; 15 min by taxi - motorbike from Hua-Hin; 10min from center of Cha-am; with couple of restaurants; shops, tailors and of course massage saloons in the easy walking distance
Hotel: rooms are spacious; clean; well furnished, although needing some slight repairs as it starts to show some signs of wear-our. What is great is that all rooms have sea view and balcony big enough to be able to sit there even in 4 and enjoy. We also appreciated possibility to add 1 extra bed + 1 baby cot

Food: Breakfast really good with choice of European and local food which is open till 11:00 am, although not worth the price of around 500 THB per person. So unless it's already included in your package there are plenty of option to eat around for less than 1/2 price
It's pretty much the same for lunch or especially dinner: You can get pretty similar quality in plenty of restaurants around (I would recommend Platoon on the beach 100m to the right behind pool / Family restaurant or Tom Yang Gung next to it on the street before hotel - in Family restaurant there make excellent roasted duck and good Rock Lobsters - kilo for less than 20 EUR need to order 1 day in advance). If you want something more fancy with really good and sometimes even creative cuisine go to Z Weed restaurant further down on the beach behind Platoon. For little more money you get something special (in nice design next to the sea) Check http://www.cherresort.com

Amenities:
excellent swimming pool especially for the kids; with pool bar, tobogan, there is an access to the sea - cannot call it really beach. Kids center really nice with some PS2; films; playroom
In the hotel good massage with regular price promo; still there are plenty of good and cheap alternatives starting 20m from the hotel
What is really strange is the internet connection. Lobby free; in the room expensive cable only - but if you ask for Marriott membership card you can have it for free even in the room (still cable only and no wi-fi)

Service: really friendly and welcoming; but do not expect anything extra and any good knowledge of possibilities outside of the hotel activities.
(you have to go down to the reception if you want to open your bottle of wine or the guy at the reception is able to tell you that maybe is better if you call yourself for golf booking and anyway he doesn't have any discounts)

We have stayed here a few times the past few years. The kids love the kids club and pool. It is a peaceful location. Last year it was much better than this. Food has slipped. Staff seem busy doing other things. Repairs are needed.

lovely hotel have just returned, great clean room very spacious.
The staff at the hotel were very welcoming, the gardens are very well maintained. a child friendly hotel however there were no children there this was a bonus for us. there is a slide for children too which is good.

The hotel had a fantastic spa where you would have a very high standard treatment. A full body massage was around £12!

i would definatley return to the hotel but for a week instead of the two as it was very quiet here. also when we booked the holiday we were told that the hotel was on the beach however it is but its been washed away!!!!

We made the Marriott Courtyard at Cha Am beach our home for six nights at the beginning of October and overall had a good stay.

The hotel is tucked away in Cha Am overlooking the beach in a quiet location well away from the hustle and bustle of Hua Hin. All rooms are at the back of the hotel, with a balcony looking out to sea. Our room was a good size, clean and well equipped. We particularly liked the spacious showers and free internet (if you signed up for the Marriott loyalty card). The restaurants at the hotel were good, reasonably priced and the gym and spa facility was excellent.

When we arrived, the hotel was quiet, which wasn't unexpected as it was out of season. However on day three an international school group arrived and the hotel began to show a few cracks. Being woken up just before 8am by 'group activities' on the lawn just below our room was forgivable and the increased numbers around the hotel gave it more atmosphere. The hotel staff clearly understood that this wasn't ideal and took time out to ensure that guests were happy - this was a nice touch. As with almost every hotel we've stayed at in Thailand, the staff were lovely, friendly and couldn't do enough to help us.

What made this challenging for us, and the hotel, was that the increased numbers rendered the lifts almost useless. A minor point maybe but it didn't half annoy us at the time! There was rarely a queue more than four or five people long but the aging lifts just couldn't cope. We ended up waiting ages for them to take us up as well as down. At checkout time one morning, we resorted to using stairs to get us to the 14th floor because we were so frustrated.

They didn't have sensors to stop the doors from closing if there was something in the way, which created problems beyond getting your hand trapped in them if you were stopping them from closing. If the lifts were full and you got out to let someone else out, the doors would close almost immediately, leaving you stranded on the floor. This happened a number of times and ended up with us climbing the stairs instead of waiting for another lift.

Would this stop us from going back? Probably not, because we got an excellent deal, but we may ask for a room on a lower floor to make the stair climb easier!

Room Tip: Stay lower down so that when you resort to using the stairs you don't have to climb so far!
