After 1 week in Cha'am I was entering Aroy's and being greeted with beautiful smiles and my favourite drink without having to order. The girls on staff are friendly, kind and always got my order right - even though I often requested changes to the menu (vegetarian dishes and dark toast). Food and drinks always came out promptly unless the restaurant was absolutely packed.

'Shrimp deep fried in powder' and pad Thai were some of my fave dishes but every morning I ordered some fruit. Instead of a few meagre slices I always received a plate full that would have amounted to nearly a whole watermelon or pineapple.

Food is amazingly cheap, especially compared to most of the beachfront restaurants.

I love this place and go back regularly for breakfast and lunch. They good is consistently good and the service is excellent. Tom trains the staff well and they are very friendly.

It's mostly popular with Farangs but many Thais eat here too.

Highly recommended.

On a Tuesday night in Cha'am not much is happening. All restaurants except one are empty. That exception is Restaurant Aroy. Located in the centre of Cha'am next to the open air food market, my first observation of the restaurant was that every table was occupied (a good sign). The interior of the restaurant displays the owners' keen attention to detail and obvious (and somewhat creepy) penchant for clocks, which entirely cover the walls.

The menu is extensive and includes burgers, pizzas, pastas, etc, in addition to the thai food. As a general rule, I stay clear of these types of restaurants (which are obvious tourist traps), but in truth, after a 30 minute walk in Cha'am it was the best we had found. Oh, and the fact that its rated #1 on TA should, at least in theory, count for something!

We only ate the Thai food, which was average and unmemorable. The restaurant was clean and suitable for western tourists that are Thai novices. The service was very average. Difficult to get the attention of the waitresses, who spoke almost no English. To their credit, they got the orders correct and the food was brought out in good time.

So, all in all, I can't recommend this place to anyone looking for something special, unique or adventurous. But if average is good enough and you place a premium on apparent cleanliness and food safety, then I would happily suggest this place to you.

You do not see many thai people at Aroys, although the menu offers both thai and western stile dishes. If you are in real need of a steak or a pig cutlet this is a fair place to go.
