After 10 previous trips to Thailand, this has be the most disappointing of all. The rooms were horrible, the cook was awful: our first meal was macaroni drenched in tomato ketchup. Suffice to say, the cook was a better driver. The trips (elephant trekking, walking in the jungle etc) could all have been arranged by ourselves, for a fraction of the cost.
But we were lucky with the weather :-)

We are sorry to hear this is your most disappointing trip ever in Thailand. If you are not happy about the room at the moment, you should inform the reception and would change you to other room. We do everything to keep our clients satisfied. The meals are simple and straightforward, you should not expect a luxury meal when you're in the jungle. We are trying our hardest to keep everyone satisfied. Thank you for your feedback and we will work harder in the future.

I wish that someone had warned me before I went there!!!!
Worst “tour” experience ever! The staff only spoke 3 words of English "Wait, 10 minutes". Those 10 minutes usually turned into several hours. Complete disorganization and lack of any planning by the staff. They would drive us somewhere where there weren't enough seats in the car, so we had to ride in the trunk of the car or back of an open truck. Then the dropped us off in a parking lot and left. A group of us waited around a very busy boat dock for several hours, with no staff around to even ask why we were waiting, or for how long, or if we should buy tickets for a boat. Finally, someone came and we took a 1 hr very wet boat ride to the raft house. We finally arrived there at 16:00, which gave no time to enjoy swimming in the lake or doing any activities, but at this point we were just thankful to get away from the treetops lodge. The staff had their own party at the raft house and didn't feel like taking us on the excursions that we paid for. They ate grilled fish for dinner and we had rice (as usual). They had many excuses like "the night safari is only with big spiders, no animals, so we aren't going", "The bat cave is flooded and you can't swim there". The only excursion was a boat ride to the "fishing village", which was a hut that you could buy expired chocolate and cookies from. We ate them anyway because we were starving by the 3rd day. There were no kayaks for use, so you are stuck to a hut of 5 sq meters. The bathrooms were not usable when it got dark, they are open aired and not cleaned and the common toliets were never flushed. Forget about showering or brushing teeth - it's scary, and there are no towels anyway. Most people woke up in the middle of the night and peed into the lake instead - and there is no privacy between huts, so we could all woke up to hear people peeing on the common walkway.
The raft houses concept is cool and worth doing, but find an alternative provider.

The hotel also owns Tree tops safari lodge where you usually go for 1 or 2 nights before the raft houses. DON'T GO!!! It is terrible! The tree houses are concrete buildings on concrete polls which are painted to look like trees, not what we expected. There are holes in the floor and ceiling for these "trees" - for no purpose except letting in rain and mosquitos. The rooms are not cleaned, the beds are full of black mold and we slept on top of a thick layer of our extra clothing so we didn't have to touch anything. There are no towels, the bathroom is always flooded with dirty water, and it’s dark and dingy. I was scared for my health. The food consisted of chicken, egg and white rice, or sometimes only a piece of white bread for 3 days. I got sick from the chicken. There is no possibility of getting other food, so plan to starve or only eat ice cream bars and beer. Don’t swim in the pool unless you have had all your vaccinations RECENTLY. The water is green, stinks, and there are things living in it. There are millions of tadpoles but it really comes to life at night. The only place to be was in the lobby which was uncomfortable and full of other tourists patiently waiting next to their luggage. The excursions again were not what was promised. Basically driving for 10 minutes on the highway and stopping on the side of the road, which we waited 4 and sometimes 6 hours for! The kayak ride is like 15 minutes, or as fast as the hired guide could row. The jungle hiking is on a dirt road with shops along the way, so you are not exactly close to nature. The elephant riding consist of sitting in a seat and going around in a circle. Some members of our group were quite offended by the treatment of the elephants with the bullhooks, and they were not allowed to stop the ride or get off.
The staff was quick to become rude and couldn't speak English, so complaining or getting a refund was not really an option for us. That is the only reason we SURVIVED the entire 3 day experience.

Stayed at the raft houses - basic does not describe the accommodation - read instead dilapidated, and no sign that much needed maintenance is likely to be carried out. Add to that, the fact that sullen and lazy staff who would rather smoke "non-branded" cigarettes and sleep all day than communicate with or provide guests activities promised or details about facilities. Finally the food left much too be desired - the impression is that they like to make as much profit as possible by serving eggs as much as possible rather than any meat and congealed noodles. The only good thing is that breakfast is provided in an unusual manner although that has to be tempered by the limited choice of cold fried eggs or cold fried eggs.
Worst experience in five visits to Thailand.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms but avoid number 15 as the "boardwalk" has collapsed and you will needs to jump to get to the room

We booked the Rainforest Experience with two nights at the Tree Tops lodge in Khao Sok and one night in a raft house on Cheow Lan lake.

The scenery is spectacular and probably the most beautiful place I've ever been in my life, however this is not a review of the lake / jungle it is a review of Tree Tops.

We made our own way to Khao Sok from Phuket and were told someone from Tree Tops would be there to meet us off the bus. After a four hour bus ride we arrived in Khao Sok and there was nobody there from Tree Tops. Just a few local taxi drivers who tried to sell us a taxi ride to our hotel. We sat in the searing heat for ten minutes with no way to contact Tree Tops and no idea of where we were or what was going on then one of the taxi drivers said they had received a call from Tree Tops and would take us there. We got in the taxi and immediately worried about if we could trust the driver. Thankfully he took us to the lodge but this was a sign of things to come.

The reception / lobby area is stunning. Looks like a disney theme park or rainforest cafe, however it is ruined by the overpowering smell of cat urine.

Strangely we were the only two people staying at the entire resort despite there being seemingly around 15 tree houses. It wasn't until our last day that more people arrived!

We were given a very awkward welcome and run through of the itinerary by the receptionist.who spoke the best English of all staff but still very hard to understand and converse. We then were given the key to our tree house and made our way up some very steep unsafe looking steps.

The room was spacious, however had no hot water, had damp throughout (and smelled of damp), had two tree trunks in which allowed in water and bugs (the masking tape around the top and bottom did nothing but make the resort look amateurish) and despite being in the jungle had a poor view as the roof cut came down and cut off any decent view you might have from the patio doors. The mosquito net had holes in and the room was generally dirty.

On our first day we went tubing down a river which lasted around 30 mins and was fun, with spectacular scenery of mountains along the way. It was however just sitting in a river in a ring and there's nothing stopping you doing this for no cost. We then visited a buddhist temple and saw some monkeys. We did not get to feed them as the itinerary suggested and we found ourselves listening to someone elses guide as ours spoke no English.

The package also included elephant riding, however this was not the elephants at khao Sok National Park, it was a separate attraction a mile or so from the resort (Wassama Elephant Trekking). This was dissappinting. We rode a baby elephant too small to make it up the short trek (up a stream) and was stabbed in the mouth by the handler for its failure.

The trek around the national park was brilliant and we had a local guide who took us down a track and informed us all about the nature. The guide was not however a member of Tree Tops and again you can do this yourself for little cost.

Between the activities we had hours of down time to do nothing. There was a massive swimming pool which sat empty and useless (although was being cleaned and filled during our stay). The lobby has wifi but we still had alot of time to do nothing and every night went to sleep at around 7pm.

The food was pretty good as you would expect in Thailand.

We then went to Cheow Lan lake. On route we were made to wait whilst the 'guide' shopped for our dinner. We had a look around the local market for ten minutes then waited in the car for another twenty. Not much fun.

When we got to the raft house we were impressed. It was basically a shed on water with a matress however the scenery was spectacular and the main deck area was also beautiful.

However the guide was more concerned with lying in his hammock, smoking, drinking and playing cards than ensuring we had a good time. On the first day we rushed our way up a waterfall and back down (which was very dangerous and should have been taken slower, preferably also with time to take some photos!). This was the only activity for the whole day and lasted 15 minutes. We got back had dinner and were told to go to bed. No night safari as promised because water levels were too high (not sure how this affects a land based activity!!). Once we were in our room the guide stayed up with his friends who lived on the resort and we awoke the next day to find empty whiskey bottles and ant infested plates on the deck.

There was also no swimming in bat caves as promised.

First thing in the morning we rode around on the boat. Saw nothing then went back for breakfast. Then had an hour to do nothing and got a boat back to the tree house resort.

We couldn't wait to get back to our Phuket hotel at this point.

We left tree tops after lunch and nobody even bothered to say goodbye. We got in the taxi and that was it. We feel robbed of four days of our holiday and our experience of such a beautiful place has been ruined by such a poorly run business.

I would advise anyone to go to Khao Sok / Cheow Lan Lake but not through Tree Tops. Book through the official Khao Sok National Park site, it's more expensive but as this experience has shown, you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Don't go with Tree Tops
