“Mixed reviews. Would be nicer if no pressure to buy tours”
Reviewed November 14, 2008

Stayed in one of the back huts for 2 nights. When we first arrived the staff were lovely, very attentive although they were pushing their tours. The accomodation is basic and they turn the lights out which was very hard then for you to come back out once you made your way to your room as was the case for me when I left something up the front area and found halfway down the track the lights went out. very unsafe and it was completely pitch black. I believe for safety the small lights leading the paths should be kept on all night.

The first morning we decided to do our own thing and find our own tours and they were a lot cheaper near the National Park. On our return from our day out the staff were less than friendly as we had not booked our tours through them.

We ate one meal at the resort which was ok, but we found nicer food elsewhere.

The rooms themselves were as described in their website with soft beds and mozquito nets.

Location was great and staff were friendly. Evening meal was quite bland by Thai standards and took ages to arrive. Our kids loved the Bamboo Tree House. Electricity was a bit dodgy - lights kept tripping and in the morning the hot water heater continually tripped during showers in the beautifully designed bathroom. Satellite TV consisted of approx 4 Thai language channels.

We went on the Elephant tour as advertised on their website. It wasn't as long as indicated (we left at 10 and were back by 12) and didn't include a swim as there was a continual procession of other tourists and it would have created a bottleneck at the small waterfall. The mahouts were very friendly and good with the children.

WARNING: On departure we stopped off at a Hot Spring near Kapong. Our 5 year old inadvertently stepped into the small pool of extremely hot natural mineral water and suffered 2nd degree burns to her feet. We are planning to have a warning sign erected there but in the meantime please be careful.

Looking for something different and this place is it. Lovely huts up in the trees surrounded by trees and plants. Each hut is separate and very private. The people here are just tremendous and do everything to make sure you have a goodtime and don't charge anything to help out.

The food is great especially the penang curry and the fruit shakes wonderful at the end of the day.

Our room was only 600Bt a night which was discounted because of the low season.

This is a great place to stay and see a wonderful area of Thailand.

This accomodation is so quaint. Each cabin is an independent treehouse built into a real tree (but supported by additional columns). Two main branches of our tree ran through the deck of our cabin and supported a hammok shadded by the natural tree canopy. Another ran through the bathroom and supported the showerhead. The bathroom sink was supported on a tree stump. Our treehouse was far from the other tree-houses giving us a sense of privacy. A garden of natural flowers follows the trail from each treehouse to the restaurant/lobby. It is an amazing experience.

The service is unbeliivable too. Sokda and his lovely wife (my memory is failling me, I forgot her name) looked after us like family. They pick us up from the Surrat Thani airport for free (other hotels charge $60) because they would be in town buying supplies from anyway. They didn't have room in their truck for all 5 of my family so Sokda road in the back of the half ton while his wife drove. On the day we left we miissed the last bus to our next destination so they drove us 2 hrs and didn't ask for anything! What more can they do?

They made deal with a local park ranger on vacation to be our guide for excursions into the park. This worked out much better than the package tours most guide companies try to cram people into. The park ranger was very knowledgeable and acommodated our individual needs.

They don't have air conditioning in any of the rooms and I cannot sleep when it is hot. However, Khao Sok doesn't "feel" as hot as other parts of Thailand and I did manage to live without AC for the stay.

As for hiking in Khao Sok, well you better not mind leaches. We did everything possible to take precations but two of us still managed to feed a couple.

  • Liked — The owners and the atmosphere
  • Disliked — Food quaility at restaurat was so-so; not as good as it was at some others.
