“Beautiful place to relax and unwind. Great Spa, great food, great fun staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2010

What a great place. we booked to go to the Rainforest resort but when we got there they had not got us booked in for more than 1 night so we had to look else where. The ladies in the group found Cliff and River in the Lonely Planet so we booked in the the next day.
It was expensive for Khao Sok but was so worth it.
The resort layout is very sympathetic to the location even if there are very steep hills to climb up and down to the reception! The rooms were very well equipped and very large. The food from the restaurant was very nice, mainly Thai but what do you expect!! There was a great little pool half way up the hill which was the best was to escape the still hot air.
There were good activities to do, mainly revolving around the river and trekking, and you could get them to take you to Khao Sok's main street with other bars and great eateries. The spa on site was also very relaxing, but it was about 700bht average. a lot for Thailand!!

I visited this resort for my cousins wedding. There were approximately 50 of us there and we were the only ones at the resort so my experience was likely different than others would be.

Rooms - cabins are very cute and fit in well with the scenery. Open air showers/toilets which were very nice.

Location/Scenery - great location with beautiful jungle scenery. Everything is very green!

Pool - nice pool located in the middle of the resort.

Food - great food however our's was a special menu due to allergies/wedding dinners etc but I'm sure all of the food would be delicious.

There are a large number of stairs at the resort. It is essentially split into 3 levels on the hill. Top is reception, massage, coffee bar as well as some cabins. Middle level has cabins as well as the pool. There is a path between the 1st/2nd level that is fairly steep but not unmanegeable for most. 3rd level has more cabins and the restaurant and there are stairs between 2nd and 3rd levels.

Staff - very helpful, friendly, they were awesome through out the whole wedding

I went to this resort because of the great reviews on this website. The place is the pricest place in Khao Sok and so wouldnt usually be our first choice. It is also really far out, almost 12km, so we didnt get to go on the net or try other places food either.
The view is obviously the big factor here, and it is amazing. The resort f one a hill which allows each bunglow to have a great view. The place was tidy and well laid out, the bathrooms were particularly nice and the water hot! I really appreciated the black out curtains.
Nobody on the resort, except the manager, seemed to be able to speak english, which we found annoying for a supposedly 'up-market ' resort. The location obviously was bad and the transfer to Khao Sok was 500baht, which wasa rip off. Especially when the chef was not actually in the resort, so the guests are limited to sandwiches. The food was bad, even when the chef was at work, and expensive.
We definately expected more for our money.
After 2 nights we moved into Khao Sok and stayed at 'KhaoSok Paradise', which was cheaper, better staff and service, wonderful food and far better in quality. If you are thinking of staying at the Cliff and River, dont! Stay at the Paradise Resort in Khao Sok.

I spent 2 nights here as part of a package booked with Limestone LakesTours which is referred to frequently in this forum and is excellent.

The website and photos do not do justice to this wonderful property which is set under a huge limestone mountain. The bungalows are beautiful elegant stone and teak creations with open bathrooms and beautiful decor. The manager and staff were absolutely charming and the food to die for. There is also a great spa, a lovely infinity pool, some very friendly dogs and some very superior cats who will not hesitate to jum onto your lap to check the contents of your dinner plate !

Khao Sok NP is a real find , I would rate it even higher than the areas around Chaing Mai and Mae Hong Son in the north. It really should not be missed.

I went canoeing twice which was truly one of the most serene and beautiful experiences of my life. After some reflection I also went elephant trecking and really enjoyed it. My ellie , Ting , and his mahout seemed to be extremely fond of each other which was great to see.

Two nights is nowhere near enough to enjoy this lovely spot and I really wished that I had gone to the lake.

We only booked one night before heading back up to Bangkok but we wished we could have stayed longer. The place was beautiful, the lodges really nice, and good value for the price (it is the priciest option for Khao Sok park but still).

The manager was the loveliest we met in the month we travelled around Thailand, could not have been more helpful (in fact he organised with another hotel in the group located at Surat Thani for us to leave our luggage and use their facilities whilst we waited for the night train - and they wouldn't accept payment, not even for transporting us to the train station).

Whilst we were there we tried an elephant trek, which I really would not recommend. I don't think that the elephants were mistreated really, but the one that took us really didn't want to and the whole experience made me feel really sad that they were made to carry fat western tourists about all day (me included! but never again).

The hotel also arranged for us to go on a canoeing trip along the river which runs between the resort and the glorious limestone karsts. It was wonderful to see lots of birds and fish, even a snake and a really pleasant way to finish our stay. The guy paddling (it was a lazy canoe trip - but they also have kayaks you can paddle yourself) was genuinely sweet, pointing out lots of sights and being very sunny himself.

There is a nice looking spa there too (didn't have time to try it out) with great views, though if you've just come from a beach resort you might find it a little bit pricey.

There's not a huge amount of choice food wise if you don't like Thai food, and this hotel is far away from all the others so you're a captive audience, but the food we ordered was really good (bit spicy!). good tip - don't be tempted to order a 'large' curry for one thinking that this is a main dish rather than a side, a 'large' curry will happily feed three hungry people!!!

Can't recommend this place enough and will definitely try to go back for a longer stay in the future.

  • Liked — comfortable, clean, personality, staff, views
  • Disliked — lodges quite close together & we were nextdoor to a rather loud family

We stayed for 4 nights in January during a 5 week holiday in SE Asia and this was one of our favourite and cheapest places. Khao Sok is very beautiful. This resort is situated about 10 minutes (by car) from the main entrance of the National Park. We had a hire car so this was no problem.

This is simple and tasteful accommodation with spectacular views of the mountains. It is a very peaceful and serene venue which we just adored. The gardens are beautiful and the staff extremely friendly. Breakfast is a very simple affair but served our needs.

We ate dinner most nights at the very little village near the entrance to the National Park. This village is purpose built for tourists but has a really nice atmosphere. There are a few mini marts, several inexpensive restaurants and some tour companies. There are also a few resorts there however, we were very happy to return to the idyllic peace and quiet of our little resort a at the end of each day.

We highly recommend this venue!

We stayed two nights (over New Year) at this truly wonderful place.

Everything from the helpful staff, the fantastic accommodation, the great food was brilliant.

Most of all the views of the cliff right opposite the bungalow were breathtaking and never to be forgotten. It was actually raining a lot of the time we were there. However this only seemed to add to the atmosphere of the place.

While we were there we visited the Khao Sok National Park. As we only had one full day we deecided to a trek through the jungle to a waterfall. In case you thinking of doing the same, take plenty of water, it is a tough walk 3kms took us 45 minutes over rough terrain. I would do it again though! Luckily my partner blagged us a lift back on the back of bikes...

The cost is very reasonable (at the time about £60 per night for a deluxe bungalow) I would certainly reccomend this place and would love to go back.

  • Liked — The view from the veranda
  • Disliked — The toilet being semi outdoors (a bit scary at night!!)
