Had a wonderful trip - 11 nights and wish it had been longer. An amazing holiday, our first trip to Thailand, although have been to Far East before and always loved it. Arrived at hotel and greeted with lovely cold towel and a drink. We had booked a deluxe room but ended up being upgraded to a studio room which was wonderful. Room 111, at the end of the block with a good sized terrace. The bed was decorated on our arrival and the hotel then proceeded to bring us an anniversary cake - a wonderful gesture.

The room was wonderful - clean, large and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and everyone was so friendly. A special mention for Mr Top, who brought our bags to the room and from then on was really helpful and considerate. Senior managers are always visible and very keen that you should let them know if there is anything you need.

The whole hotel area is beautifully kept, the gardeners clearly work hard to maintain such lovely areas. Pool was great and always managed to get a sun bed around it without much problem although it was towards the end of the season. Hotel provides pool towels which you can change whenever you need to.

We were really lucky to be there over Songkran (Thai new year) and the water fights and games had to be seen to be believed. What was so lovely was the fact that the guests and staff all joined in and had the best time.

The beach in front of the hotel was beautiful. We are not really beach people, preferring a pool to the sea, but even we could not resist going into the sea every day. You could swim out to a pontoon and get a wonderful view of the beach. We walked for what seemed like miles in each direction and hardly saw anyone. Bliss! There are mountain bikes for use at the hotel (no charge) and we borrowed them several times and just rode off into the surrounding countryside. Definitely worth doing, even though it was very hot - you just have to stop off and have a beer every so often!

We used the spa once because we had a voucher for a free 1 hr Thai massage. Absolute heaven. The spa is so relaxing and calm but don't know about prices of massages there. On the beach you could have a Thai massage for 300 Baht which seems pretty good value to me.

We had breakfast in the hotel but that was it - drinks seemed expensive and there is a little store opposite the hotel where you could buy beer and soft drinks for a fraction of the price at the hotel. There is a souvenir shop there too and that was quite reasonable.

For eating, we mostly ate either in Bang Niang, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel or we went along the beach to the Ton Restaurant. Each time, we would have a starter (usually shared between the 2 or us, a main meal, and a large beer each and the bill would come to no more than about£8 or £9! One night we pushed the boat out and spent £12 for two people!!

We did two trips, not through our tour operator, but arranged locally. One to James Bond island - a must - but be prepared for mass tourism! The best bit was the canoeing amongst the mangrove swamps and limestone crops. Some places you need to lie right down in the canoe in order to get into the cave area! Brill. The island itself was like being on a film set and we have the usual photos, but the whole place is really one tourist magnet selling tacky souvenirs. But - you can't go this far round the world and not do this trip really...

Also went to Similan Islands - again massive tourist trap. Beaches are beautiful snorkelling ok but very glad we didn't pay the huge prices they wanted for diving there. Some fish and fairly good coral but nothing spectacular.

All in all, this was an amazing holiday. If the weather was better in August, I would already have booked to go back to La Flora, but don't fancy sitting in the rain for most of the time. If in doubt, book it, you will have a wonderful time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I will try my best to help you.

We spent 13 nights at the Flora in a first floor room above the pool access rooms - excellent in all respects. The staff at the hotel were always pleasant and eager to assist in any way, and services were as good as one could wish for. We were on a B & B basis so whilst buffet breakfast was fine, we didn't actually use the restaurant, so cannot comment on it. Just so many places up the road to eat like a king at very reasonable prices. The Kua Siam Seafood Restaurant has to be singled out as outstanding, both for quality & value and for the friendliness of the people who run it. It's the big thatched place on the BangNeng beach Road. As I said, the hotel was great, but oh dear, the manners & attitude of some of the other clients left so much to be desired! The majority of them were Scandinavian or German, and I must say that we have not experienced such bad manners in a long time; is it possible that these people are not taught the English words "please" & "thank you" when they are learning the language? Every morning at breakfast, demands were made of the staff for "two fried eggs!" or "more tea!" and very rarely a "thank you" given. And of course the old chestnut concerning the sun loungers, up at the crack of dawn to deposit a towel on several loungers which then remain unoccupied for hours. One Scandinavian family - 12 loungers "reserved", only eight maximum used at any time - come on, play the game!
Sorry to sound off, but it was such a shame to encounter such behaviour all the time in what was a superb hotel in a lovely place. The English often get bad press for the bad behaviour of a few, but the majority of us do have reasonable manners.

Just returned from staying at this hotel in a pool access room .Hotel is magnificent. The only downside is tha we thought the drinks were a bit on the dear side. But saying that if you stay in top class hotels you should expect to pay for the services.Food on the other hand was very reasonable .

Words cannot describe our stay at the La Flora Hotel, although we stayed out of season the service was incredible and nothing was too much for staff.

We originally booked a Deluxe room, but upon arrival we were offered for a small supplement to upgrade to a Garden Villa, you still had a beach view when you sat outside on the porch and it was great waking up to the sound of the waves.

The room itself was very clean and of excellent standard, the minibar was well stocked and our room included a stereo with DVD and Plasma TV. The hotel also provided an internet room and library with an array of books that guests had left behind for you to read, so even on those rainy days there was plenty to do to keep yourself occupied, however we spent time sitting on the porch with a glass of wine enjoying the view and the sound of the waves. We even took the mountain bikes out and cycled into Khao Lak town which was only a short distance, in the town there was a 7eleven supermarket where you could buy any essentials, nibbles and even alcohol, the locals were very happy for you to come in a browse around their shops to buys gifts and local crafts etc, we even bartered to make it more fun.

The only downside to our holiday was going out of season as not all the bars and restaurants were open in the town, however the hotel provided excellent food both from the Al a Carte menu or the buffet, where you could select from the freshly caught fish. One evening we took a taxi to the Le Meridien Hotel for dinner at the Bansak Grill, which was lovely, but the hotel itself was far too large and lacked a little character.

Next time we will stay for more than a week, 7 days was too short, by the time we did the tours, we only got 1 - 1/2 days to enjoy the lovely infinity pool. We didn't get time to enjoy the spa, but we were told by another guest was 'it's out of this world'.

Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in and certainly a memorable holiday, we will definitely be back.

We stayed in La Flora from 24th January for 12 nights; it is a nice resort with good service. It is the second time we visit Khao Lak within one month, we loved the beautiful beach and quiet atmosphere.

We booked a pool access room, although it is at the back of the hotel, the free shape pool did provide a lot of fun for us.

The “View 59” restaurant at the beach front has a platform on the roof top that is a very good place to see the lovely sunset.

When arriving to La Flora you initially feel welcome.

During our stay, we lived in one of the rooms with the pool right outside and it was great!! Sometimes if you didn't feel like going to the beach or the resort's infinity pool, you could just go outside on your own front porch and jump right in. There is also a small jacuzzi in the pool outside each room for your use only. The room itself was very nice and quite big. When the staff had cleaned the room, they alway lid a sented candle so the room smelled nice for your return. Great detail.

When it comes to the rest of the resort it is really nice and way above average. The breakfast was good, with a huge selection of cold and hot dishes, but the design of the restaurant could be nicer (more minimalistic - too many coloured commercial umbrellas outside on the beach...). If you are a design fanatic go see the resort next door (Ramada) instead.

While at the resort we tried their spa facilities and they were top of the line. We chose a 2½ hours couples treatment (milk bath, coffee scrub and oil massage). It was not cheap (200 Euros for the both of us), but worth every penny.

All in all a great resort with extremely friendly and serviceminded staff. Some details could be improved which is why we don't rate it with a "full house". However, we will strongly recommend it - especially for young couples with children if you stay in the same kind of room as we did.

A lovely beach and pleasant, helpful staff, but very cramped seating immediately in front of 'luxury' beachside villas, extremely loud (and bad!) evening music, ugly stage and excessive lighting obstructing the lovely sea views, average and overly expensive food and drinks, and very hard and uncomfortable beds. Staff were quite responsive to complaints and sorted out problems as well as they could, but it's unfortunate to have so many issues to deal with when one has invested in what should be a very comfortable and carefree holiday.
