We stayed here recently as a family of 4 with 2 teenage girls and we were very happy with our choice of hotel, being our first time in Thailand we were really pleased we chose a great hotel like this.
The hotel has everything you need for a relaxing holiday, games room, gym, restaurant, numerous pools, pool bar, shop, laundry facilities.
We booked 2 deluxe rooms and were given 2 water pool access rooms where you can just open your balcony door and the pool is on your doorstep, absolutely fantastic to have this from your room, the bed is huge and very comfortable with choice of soft or hard pillows, air con brilliant no problems, free safe, bathroom towels and pool towels provided free of charge, TV in room with many channels but only used channel 8 for English news (not a problem as didn't go all the way to Thailand to watch tv, large shower which worked really well, they provided bath robes, flipflops and umbrellas which were very useful out of the 10 days we stayed we only had 2 days of constant rain, a god send in a way to cool down and give the sunburn a break!! Although still very humid. The hotel is very clean and tidy as were the pools, our house keeper Kira was very good and left our room lovely and clean, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful smiling throughout the day greeting everyone also Tony from the pool bar was very friendly, the restaurant staff were very nice working hard looking after everyone, the hotel is not far from the beach about 10min leisurely stroll and there are plenty of restaurants and bars in the area all walking distance, we are so glad we chose this hotel as it had everything we needed and more for a fantastic holiday in Thailand, we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, thankyou The Waters!!

I visited the Waters Khao Lak as part of a twin-centre trip to Thailand with my wife. We stayed in an upper pool access room on a half-board basis and this was the second hotel of our trip. I am pleased that we visited this hotel second, as anything else following this visit may have proven to be a disappointment!

It is difficult not to be impressed on approach to the hotel whose reception sits in an open lobby surrounded by fountains, which form a part of the swimming facilities which are central to the hotel. The rooms are dotted around the ample outdoor swimming pools which have a swim-up bar at their centre.

Our room was located directly above one of the pools opposite the bar, with stairs leading directly into the pool shared with the room next door. In many ways this was actually better than a “direct” swim-up room: swimmers can’t look into your bedroom and it’s possible to dry off at least partially on your way back from the pool to avoid dripping all over your bedroom floor!

The bedroom was amply sized and the bed both comfortable and enormous. There was something of a strange “hatch” feature between the bedroom and the bathroom. Given that there were no curtains or blinds in the bathroom and the “hatch” was glazed in translucent material, this means you will wake up with the sun whether you like it or not. Otherwise, the only “missing” feature is a bath - though the shower was both powerful and hot. A safe and a fridge were provided free of charge, as were slippers and umbrellas to be used as required.

When we realised that our booking was half board my wife and I fully expected to ditch this option on at least a few occasions to avoid a repetitive hotel menu. It turns out that we had no need to. As well as the Waters’ excellent on site Italian restaurant, Amici, guests are free to use four restaurants at sister hotels around Khao Lak. We visited two of these: one twice. My advice would be to avoid the Rice Barn, but get your name down for Talay, which really is exceptional. It’s necessary to book at least three hours in advance, to be transported at either 19:30 or 20:00.

When dining half-board, either at Amici or one of the sister restaurants, guests can choose from either a generally appetising set menu comprising of three courses or, if nothing on there tickles their fancy, can choose instead to have a 500฿ credit towards dining from the á la carte. While I initially found it odd to have an Italian restaurant in our Thai hotel, given the popularity of Thai cuisine, the food was excellent and cooked to an extremely high standard. Credit cannot be used towards drinks, which are reasonably priced. During lunchtime a selection of Thai and European dishes are available: we also found these delicious, and priced in line with the local market. The confit chicken drumstick with curry sauce (actually a whole chicken leg) was a particular highlight, which I ate twice.

One thing I would caution if, like ours, your trip is in the low season, is that it will rain. This is obviously outwith the control of the hotel, but do bear in mind that Bang Niang is a beach resort and there are very few indoor activities in which to partake. You may, like us, enjoy a swim in the monsoon, or take refuge in the games room - but note that it may be full of other guests jostling for the pool/snooker table or chess/draughts set. A selection of reading material is available but we couldn’t find anything in English - of course, we wouldn’t necessarily expect to in a hotel in Thailand! The Norwegians, Swedes, French and Dutch are, however, adequately catered for.

Staff on the whole were polite and friendly but we did have a couple of occasions where we thought they might be more empowered to help guests. For example on one occasion I asked reception if they could change a 100฿ note for five 20฿ notes and was told they couldn’t - a little flexibility here would be good for customer service. On a second occasion, we wanted to make use of the shuttle bus to Bang Niang beach and asked if it was a “red flag” day whereby the coastguard suggests not swimming in the sea. The reception staff were unable to advise, which I thought to be a little odd given that this would be a material consideration for whether to go to the beach or not. In the end, we took the shuttle to the beach, only to return to the hotel in the same bus, which was a bit of a waste of time but no real harm done. Neither of these events detracted in any way from our enjoyment of our trip, hence the five stars, but are referenced as minor suggestions for improvement.

I am not sure where I got the impression that this was an adult-only hotel from (and therefore this point may be completely improperly made), but if for any reason you also had the same impression, please erase it from your mind. Children were definitely present here and - in fairness to everybody involved - generally impeccably behaved.

This may or may not be a compliment to the hotel (though is intended as one), but this property could easily pass as a Hilton or J.W. Marriott resort with no changes but the sign above the entrance.

I would return here in a heartbeat.

We chose to stay here as we saw it last time we were in Khao Lak and it looked really good,

First impressions were really good,

Check in was very quick and the staff were very friendly and our room was ready straight away even though we were a little early.

Our room was a swim up room which we were really looking forward to, the room isn’t huge but is an ok size, the balcony area is quite tight if you have both of your sun beds on the deck, if you move them into the swim up section it gives more room, the room was always kept very clean by the housekeeping team who were also extremely friendly and helpful,

The pool bar staff were all really friendly and were always up for a chat about your travels, the prices were on the expensive side when you compare to some outside bars, but comparable to other resorts we have stayed at in Thailand

The breakfast was a reasonable selection but it didn’t really change from day to day, some of the food is left uncovered so the birds fly in and help themselves to the pancakes etc, so more could be done here from a hygiene perspective

The restaurant we dined in twice on our stay(second time only because it was pouring rain) and we were pretty disappointed to be honest, the meals were expensive and were a bit hit and miss so wouldn’t recommend

This place is built around it’s pools and gardens so you would expect these to be immaculate, I know it was low season but that shouldn’t affect the standards to which they are kept, the garden outside our room was overgrown with weeds etc hanging out over the edge of the pool, there was rubbish also on the ground between our room and the one next door, it was on the 4th day of our stay that the garden was trimmed back, but the rubbish was still there when we left, the pool itself whilst at first glance looking impressive was dirty with slime(algae) all over the walls, something that had been there for a while as someone had written into the algae “clean me” this was still there when we left a week later, so basically the pool was not cleaned once the whole time we stayed,

Check out was also very quick and friendly

All in all this place COULD be amazing, but management need to get out and about more and set higher standards for the staff to achieve particularly when it comes to the signature pools which is what drags people in,

Whilst we will be back to Khao Lak again and again, we will be staying elsewhere,

Stayed at The Waters with my daughter and son in July this year.
Fabulous accommodation - so clean and our attendant kept our place so tidy.
Beautiful setting and loved the swim up room making full use of the pool every day.
Reception staff very helpful and that goes for the breakfast staff too. Breakfasts amazing and well rated by my son :-)

It was just what I needed! Relaxing time with my family in a beautiful setting and I would definitely return.

Well located for the beach, shops and eating places.

Highly recommended - Enjoy :-)

Room tip: Swim up room and we were upper level so had a great view of the stunning scenery.

We arrived here on the 5/7/19 and it took our breath away. We were surprised with our greeting, they didn’t say much, gave us a cold towel and drink but the porter was waiting for us to follow him so we didn’t get to finish it. When we got to our room we were overwhelmed by it. It was big, beautiful, clean and we didn’t know where to look. We open our blinds and were greeted by the beautiful pool access. We looked at each other and thought so glad we booked here. We went to the swim up bar one day, there were 4 staff members behind the bar and not one greeting so we waited until someone looked at us and we said can we order a drink. That was the only day we went there. Brought our own drinks from shop out front and had them by the pool at our room. Breakfast was great there was a bit to offer ever morning. There was a staff member who remembered we had green tea and had one ready for us every morning . Didn’t get her name as she had a trainee badge on. The resort said it was adult friendly but there were kids there. I was told no kids under 12. I could not fault the housekeepers, they were lovely. The resort was close to great shops and restaurants. I would recommend the hotel as it was very beautiful.
