“Beyond our expectations - a truly relaxing resort :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

It all began with our check in, smooth, welcoming friendly staff with all the information we needed for our relaxing getaway. We were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade to a premium villa. Winning already. We freshened our shelves up and headed straight to the spa room for an hour massage. The spa staff were very friendly and professional, our massage was of highest quality set in a tranquil environment. Our villa room was spacious, very clean, tidy with comfortable bedding and amenities. We had the option of dinning in the Thai Restaurant or the International Bar/Restaurant. The International Restaurant had alternating entertainment and cuisine i.e. Mediterranean night, Steak night, Polynesian night, all well worth trying with what we considered good value for money. The breakfast were unbeatable, soo much to select from to suit everyone taste buds. Another highlight was the variety of pools and surroundings. Absolutely beautiful, setting the tone for a very relaxing stay. We took advantage of the pool bar and its happy hour on every night, whilst relaxing in the pool with seaside views and refreshing westerly breeze. We took advantage of the complementary shuttle bus to and from town, we also did hire a scooter conveniently available for hire just outside hotel grounds, 300 but per day. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation coming back :)

Room Tip: We stayed in a premium villa very close to the pool and beach area which was fantastic. On our next...

Dear 643CharlesC ,

many thanks for your great review. We are happy to seee that you have enjoyed your stay and moreso that we have Australians in the hotel as the " Big Boys" of travel in Australia still do not feature Khaolak appropriately.
Again thanks for being our guests and we hope to have you back again in the near future.

We stayed for 12 nights at the beyond resort and were blown away by it!! The resort itself is beautiful, the way the landscaping has been done is lovely and the small lakes in the resort have lots of variety of fish species in them. The room was the best we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in a lot of hotels!! The room was a detached villa which was great, no noise from neighbours or people above. Infact the whole resort is very very quiet in the day and at night, no loud music round the pool in the day and no music at night either - bliss!! The room was very very spacious with a high ceiling and had a great air conditioning. The cleaner did an excellant job of keeping it clean especially the glass shower doors!! The bed was huge too.
The pool areas where great sometimes we were the only two in one of the pools and sunbeds were always easy to find what ever time you went down to the pool. The beach was lovely and clean and again you could always find yourself a sunbed. The pool and the sea were very warm to swim in. The staff around the pool and in the beach bar were all very friendly and even taught us a few Thai words which I loved to use and will definately use them when I visit our favourite Thai Restaurant here in the UK next time I go.
The breakfast was really good with lots of choice to eat we found that we didnt bother with lunch after such a big breakfast. The staff again were friendly and helpful.
In the evening we went for a stroll along the beach and across the somewhat 'dodgy bridge' to eat. We tried the 4 different beach side eateries and found all the food to be really good and very cheap. They are all family run and make you feel very welcome. Our favourite was Siam which has a Thai guy singing 'pop' songs on a mike, he was pretty good. They also let you let off a chinese lattern after your meal which was really nice. Our second favourite was the first one you come to after leaving the resort along the beach (cant remember its name), food is good and very cheap also in the day pop along and get an ice cream from here.
As it was my 50th birthday on the day before we left we ate in the beach restaurant at the hotel. We were blown away with the food it was excellent (although very expensive) and the service from the staff was excellent. They arranged a birthday cake and sang happy birthday to me a little embarrassing but a nice touch. I also had a little vase of flowers in our room on that day which was also a lovely touch.
We did the elephant trek, canoeing in the rain forest, we were supposed to visit a waterfall and swim but because there is a drought at the moment the waterfall had dried up so we were taken to a temple to see the 'holy monkeys' and visited the Tsunami memorial park ( a place to contemplate what occured back in 2004 and how the area suffered).
To sum up we had a wonderful time staying at the beyond resort and its a real shame that more Brits dont visit this place. If you want a child free, quiet, relaxing, chilling place to stay then this is the place to stay. We loved it!!

Room Tip: Dont bother to upgrade as rooms are fantastic anyway and you only use the room to sleep in and get s...

we have just returned from beyond resort,we were there for sixteen nights with friends,at first we thought it was a little isolated but it grew on us, so much so that when we go back to khuk khak we will stay there. Its a new hotel, , and it was so peaceful on a fantastic beach ,the rooms are really good, spotlessly clean ,and the staff are excellent.Robert the manager is very hands on,any issues are sorted immediately,.To sum up it ticks all the boxes if you want a good hotel in a brilliant spot........ on a personel note , I thought the plastic flowers in reception were a bit naff, there are such beautiful flowers in thailand no need for plastic ones.........

We chose the Beyond Resort to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Upon arrival from the airport, we were greeted with cold towels and complimentary drink. Check in was efficient, and as it was a special occasion for us, we decided to pay to upgrade our room to a premier villa. Our villa was located next to the pool complex, and was fantastic. Large bedroom/lounge area with a separate dressing and bathroom area. The air conditioning did a superb job to the extent that some nights we had to turn it down as were were getting cold!.

The pool complex is as everybody has stated previously, very good, and right on the beach, with outstanding views. The sun loungers are extremely comfortable, and plentiful.

One our first evening we ate at the Thai restaurant in the resort, and the food was exceedingly good, and the service was excellent. For dessert, we moved onto the Beach Bar for fried bananas and ice cream, well it would be rude not too!.

The breakfast was the best we have come across in our travels. Plenty of choice, and great coffee. Again the staff were very friendly and always had a smile. As a ex smoker, it was great to see the breakfast restaurant had smoker and non smoker areas.

As a benefit of upgrading to a premier villa, we received free wi-fi, which was very useful, and a complimentary 20 minute massage in the spa. My wife and i enjoyed a head and neck massage which was outstanding, so much so, that we booked for a hour long session, and that was out of this world. The spa is so relaxing and you are made very welcome, and are well looked after.

For lunch and dinner we enjoyed walking along the beach to sample the local beach restaurants. All are very similar in what they offer, and all very different in their. ambiance.Be careful at night when the tide is in, as if you go to the restaurants to the right of the hotel, you will have to walk across the wooden bridge to get to the restaurants. Very wooden and very rickety, but a experience, I must say!

We used the complimentary mini bus into Khao Lak, To be honest, not much to see, apart from the Tsunami memorial, which is a must.

We went on one excursion arranged by our tour company. This included a visit to James Bond island, and a canoe trip through mango groves. The James bond island is a tourist nightmare, very crowded, but worth a visit for the photo opportunity. The canoe trip was outstanding. Even though it was very busy, we had a fantastic canoe guide who took us off the beaten track, and for fifteen/twenty minutes we were taken in complete silence through some outstanding scenery which was just awesome. The guide was local and very knowledgeable, and it was a pleasure to give him a tip. The excursion also included a trip to a so called local Muslim village for lunch. it was horrible to say the least. At least five very large restaurants serving hundreds of tourists the same food, followed by a walk through endless souvenir shops. Not a pleasant experience. On a way back to the hotel, we stopped at a cave complex where there is a temple built inside, and wild monkeys roaming outside. That was enjoyable end to the tour.

The hotel is very well run, and the staff are extremely helpful, despite the language barriers. However, I felt disappointed in the following areas:

We booked the hotel to celebrate our thirty wedding anniversary. While we were given a small inedible cake on our anniversary date, I felt a little more fuss could have been made.
Prior to our holiday the hotel sent me details of Thai cooking classes that they held, but on arrival I could not find out any further information.
I did not like that guests were allowed to smoke around the swim up pool bar when you were trying to enjoy a cocktail or two.
The language barrier did prove difficult on a couple of occasions in asking for help on how to work the air conditioning, and it was surprising the hotel did not provide a information folder in the rooms, as most other hotels do.
I felt the mini bus service is a great idea, but more frequent drop off and pick up times would have been appreciated, The day we used the service, we got a taxi back as there was little to do or see in Khao Lak centre, and it was a two hour wait to be picked up..

Overall it was a great holiday in a great hotel, The staff were efficient and friendly, and the locals were just the same.
.

Room Tip: Premier villas are nearer the pool complex and beach

Dear cleggsquare,

Many thanks for your great response. Comments like your help us in our never-ending effort to improve our services and make it crear where to focus on training and new implementations. We have experienced that most guests will not read any in-room information and do therefore not provide info - folders in the room. All important information is in the Key-Card Holders and handed to all guests upon arrival. All guests are escorted to the rooms and the basic's should be explained there ( safe, Air-con, ) it seems this was not done properly in your case, very sorry about this.

Anyway we hope to reach the Fantastic point soon

Many thanks and we hope to have you here soon again

Beautiful, green, with private beach, jakuzzi and sun beds in the pool. Grneat service! We were coming late and were starving, we called the hotel and asked for food to have when we come. The restaurant kitchen was closing and when we came we had food ready in our room.
Everything very neat, clean, amazing food.
Spa could be more authentic, but I guess for tourists that haven't tried the real thing in Bangkok it might work.
Perfect!

We stayed in Beyond for 10 days and was the perfect retreat from our busy lives. The room was great, large and very clean. Pool area was one of the best we have encountered; plenty of swimming areas and enough spa jets and lounges to be enjoyed by all.
staff were always courteous and polite and couldn't do enough for us. Buffet breakfast was great, plenty of choice. Restaurants along the beaches were a nice change - very good food and cheap by comparison.

thank you for your review. Great that you enjoyed your stay with us, just too bad that not many Australian operators offer our resort in their brochures. But I am sure this will change soon.

Thank you again for taking your time to write on TA

The first time in Asia, after 2 days in hectic Bangkok, we arrived on 26.3. in this peaceful paradise: Excellent reception with Mr. Oh, beautiful and spacious 2-bedroom Poolvilla directly on the beach, outstanding room cleanliness, absolute relax due to adults only formula and no animation of any kind!! Just perfect!!!
The only suggestion for change is the Siam restaurant: take some of the cooks of the nearby excellent beach restaurants to provide REAL Thai food. Where i.e. red curry is red and spicy and not yellow.... Service and presentation was excellent but tastes were too European...
Looking forward to the remaining 5 days in this outstanding Resort!

Dear Alain_P62,

Many thanks for your review whilst still in-house. I hope the enjoyment continued until the last minute of your stay. Regarding our cuisine, I have commented you inhouse already, there are many styles of Thai food ( same dish done in different ways ) whatever is the original is in the eyes of the cook and taste of clients. Anyway, love that you got the " feel Beyond " feeling during your stay.
Looking forward to have you back again soon
