“Great food and a good cause”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2012

The restaurant originated as a boatyard where fishermen could, with help, rebuild their boats after the sunami. It is located on on of the best beachesin the area. Small huts on the beach as well as sunbeds complement the openair, main restaurant by a small lagoon. Delicious Thai food as wll as fuirdrinks and other beverages. Tiger prawns to order, all cooked to perfection. The staff is fantastic and if you eat there is no charge for sunbeds. You get there by motorbike, car or taxi. Sit there and watch the sea and large birds cruising the sky....wonderful! Off I go now!

“Fantastic Beach Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2011

The Boatyard is a fantastic beach side restaurant on the most gorgeous beach in Khao Lak.

The food was so fresh and cheap and so wonderfully Thai that as we were staying at the hotel down the beach managed to eat there every night for 13 nights which says something about the atmosphere, food and service. As previously mentioned this restaurant is now closed for the low season as of the 29th April but will open again in November. As there is now the hotel the restaurant is open from 1100 to 2000 for food and the Kantary do provide torches in their rooms which makes walking back down the beach easy. The restaurant also provides transport home to the Kantary if needed which we did one night due to the rain.

The restaurant also offers free sunbeds to guest who eat lunch at the restaurant but you need to be quick in the morning as there are only a few.

The staff are very friendly and make you very welcome which makes the overall experience very good.

Excellent food - please give it a try when you are in Khao Lak

“Near perfect location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2011

The Boatyard restaurant has to have one of the best locations you can imagine. Set on a beautiful stretch of beach with barely anything else in sight.
Over the years I have visited this place several times and it has never failed to delight us. Frequently we had the place to ourselves which made us feel all the more privileged to have found such a gem.
The food is right on par with the best in town and I would suggest it is comparable to another favourite of ours, the highly reviewed Hill Tribes.
Last year we were forced to stay on in Khao Lak for an extra two weeks due to the ash cloud problems. The Boatyard like so many other restaurants shuts up shop for the rainy season and we were somewhat surprised to find it closed before the end of April.
If you are looking a change from the road side restaurants you won’t do much better than the Boatyard.
Please make the effort support this great restaurant and others like it, places like this are what sets Khao Lak apart from the mass tourist areas and keeps the place special.

“Arguably the best beach restaurant in Khao Lak”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2009

The Boatyard gets its name from a volunteer project formed after the 2004 Tsunami to help rebuild the local fishing fleet. When that admirable and much needed work was complete the main building was retained and transformed into what is now ours and I know many others favourite beach restaurant.
It is in a wonderful setting just set back from the wonderful Pak Weeb Beach, midway between Cape Pakarang and Aow Thong or White Sand Beach. There are only a handful of free loungers/deck chairs which are snapped up pretty quickly for most of the day as combining a lazy day sunbathing, beachcombing and swimming with an excellent lunch proves irresistible. Immediately adjacent to the restaurant is a small lagoon well stocked with fish which are ever eager to share scraps from the table and in particular bread.
This part of the beach is quite remote and unlit after dark so the restaurant tends to close early at bout 7.30pm after the few diners who have found that the best time to eat is sunset to combine a wonderful meal with equally wonderful sunset views.
The food is local with a good range of starters, salads (spicy squid and chicken in half a fresh pineapple being especially recommended), curries and stir fries with chicken, pork, beef or seafood, vegetable dishes and superb fresh fish. Our favourite is snapper in sweet chili sauce and Tiger Prawns in garlic and black pepper. You need to order the latter in advance.
You are quite welcome to bring your own wine, for which there is no corkage charge.
The young owners and staff are super friendly and efficient and after many visits since we discovered this place when staying at Le Meridien further down the beach, in March we asked them to prepare a Special Dinner for us to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and then a couple of days later a buffet to celebrate it again with a group of friends and fellow Khao Lak Lovers from various parts of the world. On both occasions our expectations were surpassed and we enjoyed two memorable meals to make the occasions completely unforgettable.
Prices too are more than reasonable and the cooking is consistently excellent.
Can 't wait to return, again and again!
