“Almost Perfect, a Wonderful Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2010

Most of the advice given about this resort we agree with and so not alot to add apart from the detail, particularly on pricing in and around the resort. Also, our son is 6 years old, and although the resort is probably more suited to couples still has a good kids club geared mainly for kids around his age.

Pricing: (AUD and US) - room service is very cheap, around $25 for our family at dinner, and $20 for lunch, we did not eat at the restaurants however they are about $40-$50 for dinner, and the local restaurants on the beach are at least half this. Spa is a bit pricey but you expect that from this type of resort, we had a 2 hour special for about $120 each (1 hour massage is about $80 - massage outside the resort are about $15 for 1 hour), drinks at the resort are Australian prices, however half price at happy hour. (Spirits are very expensive). Internet is free with several computers. All day island tour is approx $300 including lunch and transport, and snorkling for 2 adults and 1 child.

Resort is very relaxing still good for families, and generally very good service.
Bi Level suite is good size, with our son sleeping on a day bed (single) downstairs and our room and ensuite upstairs.

This was our second stay at the JWM in Khao Lak, the first being not long after it opened. Some things have definitely improved e.g. on our first stay there was no one to welcome us or help with our bags and we had to carry them into the hotel ourselves. This time a friendly porter greeted our car the moment we arrived. Check in was smooth and we were offered a drink while we waited. There are definitely more staff round now, but training still leaves something to be desired in some areas.

According to the guest directory in each room a turndown service is provided each evening. It didn't happen for us on our first stay with any consistency, and the same happened on our 2nd stay. On the 3rd day we mentioned it to Reception and they seemed not to understand what we were talking about, however the next evening a very pleasant member of the housekeeping arrived and turned down the bed and tidied our room.

I agree with the many comments about the hotel and facilities - it is a lovely location with excellent beach front and swimming pools. However I think the sunloungers are the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced - they are simply a very poor design, and we noticed many guests needing extra towels to try to make them comfortable and also several people, ourselves invcluded, making "design modifications" to try to overcome the hard lump that hurts your back.

Breakfast buffet - sorry, but I think it's pretty poor, and has deteriorated since our first stay. Rather unimaginative fruit selection, the fruit juices are not fresh, and twice the food from the cooked area was cold - cold bacon etc. It seemed to be going downhill at quite a rate - serving carrots instead of baked beans with the bacon and sausage I think is a strange one.

Mostly we ate at the beach restaurants - great Thai food, freshly cooked and beatifully served. We especially recommend Mama's Greeting - the last restaurant to the right of the hotel. But on our last evening we decided to eat in Olive, the hotel Mediterranean restaurant. It was a disaster - probably the worst evening we've ever had in a 5 star hotel. We ordered a bottle of wine and our food at 7.30pm. At 9pm we started to enquire about the meal, and when it was eventually served at 9.40 pm it was stone cold. We asked to see the manager, who was very apologetic and handled the situation beautifully. The plates were removed, 2 complimentary glasses of wine were provided (we'd long since finished the bottle we ordered) and a plate of garlic prawns was brought while we awaited the return of our meals. The reheated food returned and we ate it - but it was really unappetising. When the bill arrived the cost of the 2 main courses had been removed and further apologies were offered. We felt great sympathy for the staff - they were doing their absolute best, but clearly being let down badly by the kitchen. And this was at a time when the hotel was very quiet - how will they cope when they are busy? Also, next day we both felt somewhat unwell - possibly caused by eating reheated food, we can't know for certain.

As many reviewers point out, the rooms are very nice, but we were disappointed by the standard of cleanliness and had to ask to have mould cleaned from the bathroom sink and shower. This is really not 5 star standard. I hope they can get the training right as it has potential to be a great holiday destination.

An excellent hotel, with superb rooms, pools and Breakfast - certainly the best choice in the area in my opinion if Khao Lak is your chosen base. It is pretty isolated though and a long way from Khao Lak and civilisation, so bare that in mind. It was ideal for us after a hectic week sightseeing in Northern Thailand! I would recommend they add a shop though for things like magazine's, papers, sun screen etc as we otherwise had to head 15 mins into Khao Lak to find a Seven Eleven. Whilst good, the food and drinks and Spa are stupidly overpriced on site, but the wonderful beach has it's own local options which are far more sensibly priced and a good option. Also - local taxi company's can be charted for 1100 Baht each way to Phuket Airport - I wouldn't pay the hotel 2500 Baht for them to call one for you!

With my wife and infant child, we've had our share of experiences from different hotel and resorts especially when it comes to staff service, condition of accomodations, ambience of the premise environment so on and so forth. From the JW Marriott Khao Lak website and other pics/reviews from the those who had stayed there, we account our experiences during our stay on the 20th and 21st Nov 2010 and was not in any way based on anyone's recommendations or feedbacks. Slightly lengthy but worthwhile. Unbiased. So rest assured.

Upon arrival at the Phuket International Airport, we met one of the JW Marriott staff (from JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa) at the entrance and he was very polite to direct us to the actual staff from JWM Khao Lak who was waiting for us a few metres away. The actual JWM KL staff had also kindly offered to carry our baggage but i had to be sure and replied back to him that we're good as we didnt really bring that much for a short 2-nights stay anyway.

While waiting for him to retrieve the resort' s transportation parked nearby, we saw the other JWM Phuket had already picked up their guests and entered into a nice-looking Mercedes car. So we wondered if it'll be same for us. Unexpectedly, a much grandeur 6-seater black Hyundai MPV greeted us. Almost a jaw-dropping experience as it had the luxurious space big enough for my wife to change my son's diapers during travel without any difficulty. Highly maintained, leathery seats, clean and comfortable as well. You can even catch a read on the daily local news provided as well.

Along the 1hr 20 mins drive to the resort, the staff who was driving was very well-alert throughout, smoothly-driven and conscientiously cautious to ensure there were minimal bumpy rides even though the MPV was well robust against as such.

Upon reaching the resort's lobby onwards, we were greeted by their staff at every point we met. Checking in was no hassle. Escort was with a 6-seater cart buggy to our deluxe pool access room which was less than 5 mins walk away from the lobby.

Upon checking into our k-size bdroom, it had all the facilities mentioned and a great tub. Internet access (Wifi) was free and you can actually use the TV as your monitor to surf. Lots of privacy, quiet and the weather was good. A patio, sun decks and a see through bevelled-edged glass enclosure ensured the safety of our son from reaching directly into the pool. They do have pool access rooms without any glass enclosures as well. Quite a family-friendly environment. JWM Khao Lak managed well on that factor.

Apart from the direct access of the rooms to the pool, the pool itsel was extremely marvellous! Stretching throughout as if the whole resort is above a huge swimming pool. The definite unique signature of the resort. The pool depthness varies from 1.1 metres to 1.8 metres as far as i can tell as we had explored at almost every corner.

Spa facilities and the services were also top-rated as feedbacked from my wife who took the traditional Thai massage. The different type of spa services normally varies from 1200 baht to 3500 bahts. My wife added that it's really worth it as the Thai massages are known to be one of the best there.

The resort gardens and walkways were beautiful, clean, cropped and very well-maintained while their friendly gardening staff were always busy as a bee. Food and dining was well located within short walking distance in the resort. However, no halal meat food available. In a way, the resort deli helped. We didnt have enough time to explore the outer regions of the resort due to the short time we had there. So we wouldnt really know if there were any halal food outside nearby.

The beach was nice, you can watch sunsets and they allocated many nearby sun deck seats as well for those seeking relaxation. Great for couples and small family getaways! They also have in-house activities so do check them out beside the Deli. Too bad we couldnt join the free cycling tour of Khao Lak due to the short stay. Would love to go JWM Khao Lak again!

There's only thing that comes to my mind whenever someone mentions JWM Khao Lak........the resort with most luxurious exotic swimming pool!

We deliberately sought out stand-out luxury accommodation for our honeymoon in November and definately found it in this hotel.

The hotel is large, luxurious and sprawling, offering many dining and activity choices in a unique environment - surrounded by really gorgeous pools (that look like canals) that weave in a 3km length around the resort. It's quite remote (in comparison to Phuket) but if you want something slower paced, it's a good place to go.

We stayed in their best room - an executive suite - and it really had wow factor. It featured an outside shower which was romantic and so invigorating, a separate lounge room, bedroom, powder room and walk-in robe that was massive. But above all, the view was pretty spectacular. We did have one minor problem. With all the heavy rain some of it came through the ceiling. The staff were very apologetic though and were extremely prompt about cleaning it up. They went above and beyond and compensated us - so we were extremely happy with that.

When it comes to breakfasts - all enthusiasts will be very reassured. It was probably the most extensive breakfast bar I have seen at a hotel. There were six different food stations - most with chefs/attendants. They even had a juice bar that allowed us to choose our mix of ingredients and they whipped it up right in front of us - amazing.

Staff wise, you couldn't get any better. They made a point of telling us how much training they had been through - and it shows. Everyone was so consistent and so pleasant. They made our stay a pleasure.

Also if you're coming from Phuket, organise the hotel to pick you up in one of their cars. They're really comfortable and spacious and not bad for 2000 - 2,500 THB.

We will definately come back here.

we are loyal marriott groupies, but this place has surpassed many of its other resorts... We like the jw in phuket but the beach and the pool features here surpass it...

The staff has to be the best trained and most pleasant in all of SEA. Nothing is too much to ask for, but rarely do you need to ask for anything....

the pools and lagoons are inviting, huge and the water is just the right temp...The beach is lovely and very long and wide, with no undertow.

our pool access room is in bldg 1. the bed is fantastic, the chaise and sofa are attractive and comfortable. the bathroom with huge stone tub and double sinks, and seperate glass enclosed shower room and toilet room (only negetive--glass) is perfect....

our covered deck with 2 upholstered chairs and ottomans leads directly into the lagoon.

the food, while not cheap is good, well prepared and beautifully presented... last evening the GM invited all americans to a private Thanksgiving dinner complete with tom turkey and all the fixings....

The grounds are lovely...covered with shrubs, flowering plants, herbs, tall coconut palms and grass. Raised wooden walks wind their way through the area along the beach.

there is a squash court, a gym, an ATM, a free kids club and many more perks...

simply said it nears perfection.

The hotel is AMAZING!!! We stayed there for 5 days and we enjoyed a lot! The rooms are incredible decorated, very very cozy! The hotel has 3 km swimming pool which surrounds the whole hotel. The service were super nice with us, and totally dedicated to the guests. It has 5 different restaurants. The beach in front of the hotel is fantastic, perfect for going with kids.

The only inconvenience is that the SPA of the Hotel is extremely expensive, and they charged you for one hour massage the same prices like in Europe. But one can get very good massages in Khao Lak city.

In general, a paradize! I will go there back for sure!!

pd: Perfect place to go with your boyfriend/girlfriend...very romantic!
