On the bright side:
- very nice spot with the jungle in the back and the beach in the front! (quiet part of the beach, but just a short walk from town)
- nice looking resort/pool/rooms
- good breakfast buffet!

on the other page:
- any extra services are very overpriced, as: massage, laundry, airport shuttle
- loads of german fellows there (I am a german, but do not need to hear german everywhere during my holidays...)

Khao Lak in general is overcrowded with catalogue travelers brought to you by Neckermann, Tui, Thomas Cook and all the others - something that you can hear and even feel since the locals are way less friendly then in other parts of the country...

Room tip: The "deluxe rooms" are very nice, I would not recommend the lowest price category, since they are in the dark back of the resort.

Lovely garden setting around two pools and fronting a lovely beach (Sunset) which I personally thought much nicer than the more poplar beaches. Excellent location a 15min stroll to the restuarant at night or taxis wait outside and it was nice to be away a bit from the town. The hotel is very reasonably priced and their breakfast is of good quality and varied every day. Lovely staff and has a nice homely feel. We were the only english speaking people there as a lot of Germans, Austrians, Russians and Dutch people like this hotel but I expect this is the same for most of the hotels. Would certainly return here another time.

Room tip: Maybe choose a room with mountain and pool view but upstairs as if you were on the ground floor you will have people passing by all the time, or choose garden view but ask for top floor on the end nearest the sea, good view of sea from here over the top of the resort.

We stayed for 5 nights towards the end of October so it was still at low season rates - extremely good value.Friendly effecient staff. We had the superior room which faced in to lots of trees and was very comfortable. As it rained most afternoons the big balcony was really handy. Breakfast was good and so was lunch at a very reasonable price. The swimming pools and grounds are very well kept and it has a great sandy beach right in front. Its only a 15 minute walk to the village or 100bht so handy to pick up cheaper liquid supplies.
The only slight negative was that we were surprised at the amount of smoking in the restaurants by Europeans which has been illegal for ages in most western countries - we were careful selecting our table in the morning and sometimes moved when others started smoking, and one night at the outside restaurant actually left our table before ordering and went next door to the Palms Beach restaurant, and returned there another night for 2 good meals.
For a good view of the beach climb the steps at the end of the beach to the yellow Muanlai restaurant for a cheapbeer or local lunch. For a very good wood fired pizza try the Pinocchio managed by Samantha - an Italian - about 250 meters on the side road down to Mukdara resort - by taxi 150bht. This was our second time in this area and definitely will come back to the Bayfront.

Stayed for only 1 night while showing family the Khao Lak area.We usually stay at the Khoa Lak Palm Beach Resort next door, but were happy to try here, after many years of looking in from the beach. We had Seaview Bungalows which are very spacious and the bathroom had a lovely waterfall shower(no bath though).Gardens are well kept but not as tropical as next door.Staff were all very good. There were some minor worries with English translation but everyone was eager to help.Like most resorts in the area ,there is a large European, mainly German & Dutch, guest base.We had a lovely breakfast where the selection on the day was better than we were used to at Palm. The dinner that we had was superb( and very reasonably priced) in the lovely upstairs restaurant.Although short,we enjoyed our stay and now have made a difficult task for ourselves about where to choose for future holidays! Love the golden sand beach in this area..

Stayed at the Bayfront resort for 2 weeks from May 10th. Fantastic resort, great position tucked at the end of the bay. Rooms were great no expense spared the whole place felt it had been thought through, right down to the gardens, plants everywhere just seemed to be oozing quality.Pool areas were fantastic so relaxing looking back at jungle you could just forget all your troubles and chill. Staff were always very friendly, the restaurant manager was always very polite and chatty and made our stay even nicer. The food was excellent enjoyed every meal and more or less the same price as some of the restaurants in the village. Would I go back, absolutely, have been to Thailand on 8 other holidays to Phuket, Cha Am, Hua Hin, Koh Samui etc and I have to say this area is so laid back and relaxing that it has it all.
