Accurate review. Please read.

We have just returned home from our holiday which we travelled to Apsara beach front resort for two weeks. We booked the bed and breakfast offer.

I had scrutinised all the reviews on here previously to our visit so I had high hopes for the hotel.

We arrived at the hotel 1st February at 12.30am after travelling for approx 20 hours we were tired, fed up and very hungry when we arrived - the staff through the night turns out are a completely different calibre to the day time - not attentive at all and the woman that checked us in and showed us to our room was anything but polite. We asked if we could have anything to eat, or even locally and we were told no, and there is nothing open near by at this time either so if you arrive through the night your only
Option is the mini bar in the room - we ended up with a kit Kat - and it was mouldy!

Anyway, we were showed to our room. And by this time quite frankly we were grouchy and short tempered. The room was not to an acceptable standard for a 4 star hotel. The smell of damp/mould blew you away. The aircon unit was hanging off the wall - the blind between the room and the bathroom was covered in stains, the shower tiles were full of mould in between. Two single beds pushed together with the switches behind where the pillows are. So every time you put your head down you turned the lights off.

We voiced our disappointment to the staff and was shown one other room exactly the same of which wasn't good enough so we refused to move. There isn't any managers working the night shift with any authority to make amendments or change your room etc so we had no alternative but to spend our first night in a room we weren't happy with.

The next morning we spoke with the manager on duty and informed him of our complaints and he advised directly he would visit a number of rooms and come to us with a suitable one. This concerned my other half - all rooms should be of the same standard - everyone in the resort side are paying the same amount why should some have a better quality room then others.

We were shown a room in block C 352 - upon our arrival a maintenance contractor was leaving, some air fresheners were left in, as I do believe the hotel has issues with damp, the blind was clean, air con unit in place, no mould, and quite frankly no issues at all - the bed linen was a better quality with a lovely couple of origami animals on the bed - exactly the first impression you would like of a hotel. We accepted the room around midday day 2 and didn't have any issues the whole holiday.

We were offered x2 complimentary aromatherapy massages in the spa for our troubles of which we booked and were phenomenal. However the spa is considerably more expensive if you were paying the full price the. The local massage parlours - this to me is expected in a hotel environment.

We ended up upgrading our bed and breakfast to all inclusive as the prices for a cocktail and a beer were £10 a round so it was more cost effective for us to do so.

We were provided x2 vouchers with our all inclusive, x1 meal at the beach restaurant and x1 at the villa restaurant - all other meals were at the buffet.

The buffet is small. The meals from lunch and dinner is always varied never the same however the variety can make you end up with a random selection on your plate as you can never quite get a complete meal. The food is to a very good standard though - can't be knocked. Some of the food off the BBQ was often cold though.

The staff in the day time are very attentive. Everyone we spoke to that arrived in the daytime had a very different experience to us.

The all inclusive bars at night is just the one - the other bar at the beach you have to pay for. The signs do say at the all inclusive bar it's open until midnight but between 11-12 you have to pay. However at 11.05pm and 11.15pm I went to the bar on two occasions and it was closed.

There was always plenty of sun beds and the weather was incredible - the standard reserving beds is an issue here though. Particularly front row by the beach - put it this way we went on a trip to phi phi islands and our pick up was at 4.30am and the beds already had towels on!

I've read reviews on here stating the hotel should be a 5* and I completely disagree. It's a 4* - it's generally tired, from the surface Looks like it was completely renovated 15 years ago and it imminently requiring the next and will be in trouble if it doesn't get it soon.

Overall, the people we met there and the weather made our holiday. But we wouldn't return to this hotel or khao lak.

This holiday resort has the WOW factor. We visited Thailand to mark my boyfriend's 30th birthday and both agreed this was the best holiday we have ever had. We were met with the warmest of welcomes from the reception team and shown to a large standard room which was well presented and very clean. The balcony overlooked a beautiful garden. We were extremely happy with the food that was on offer in the Kinnaree restaurant which was available to us with the all inclusive package, a variety of Thai and every night had a different theme so there was plenty to choose from. It is obvious that the staff work so hard to make sure you have a wonderful holiday! We also found the bars to be great and served a good variety of cocktails (you could pay for branded drinks but we never felt the need to as we were happy with the cocktails and local beer Chang that was on offer).

On valentines evening we had a FABULOUS meal on the beach which was so romantic. A real highlight of the holiday. Again the hard work that all of the staff had put in to make this night so special and memorable was exceptional.

During our stay we decided to upgrade to a pool villa which was absolutely AMAZING and very luxurious! Definitely worth paying extra for the 5 nights we could stay in the villa side of the resort. We also had our all inclusive package upgraded which meant we could chose the a la carte restaurant. The food was very delicious, beautifully presented and very generous in the portion sizes!

We had a fantastic stay in both parts of the resort. As some of the reviews suggest the Villa side is more luxurious and if you don't mind paying extra would definitely recommend the upgrade!

We were always greeted with plenty of smiles from all members of staff which was lovely.

Thank you for giving us a truly unforgettable holiday!!

Upon arrival late evening with a group of friends, we were greeted by friendly staff, a refreshing drink and cold flannel. We were swiftly booked into our rooms, and to our surprise were offered complimentary upgrades for our group the next day into the Villas, with hot tubs. These had the WOW factor, large spacious bedrooms, huge wall along wardrobes, use of bathrobes, flip flops, beach bag, umbrellas, mini bar at very reasonable prices, free water stocked daily. Beautiful seating area, large shower, double sinks with well stocked toiletries, and beach towels.
Breakfast was very relaxing, all the stations were a delighted to sample, everything and more. We ate out during the evening at the local restaurants just a 10 min walk, or tuk tuk and couldn’t believe how amazing the food was and how cheap. Memories Bar was often visited as the food was so fabulous, and cheap, as were the drinks. A lovely end to the day. We went on two day trips, one to the Surin Islands @ 3,700 Bhats per person, long day but worth the 1hr 40 mins on the speedboat, as the snorkeling was fantastic- we were well catered for with drinks, and food and fresh fruit, and returning to the dock with more fruit, food and refreshments before heading home. We all agreed it was money well spent. The other trip was a elephant sanctuary and visit to waterfalls, monkeys, and kayak into the rain forest - this was our favorite and a wonderful experience - definitely put this on your list. The New Year Gala, was an experience with so much food and entertainment on offer, however the wine is very expensive so maybe start the evening at Memories Bar and order wisely from the wine menu. All in all, just a fabulous holiday, in beautiful Khoa Lak, we will be returning one day. Can not think of any negatives to remark on. FAB, FAB, FAB. 10/10 thanks Apsara.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at this amazing hotel. We stayed in a pool villa which was an upgrade from the room we booked because our room hadn't quite been cleaned properly.....so why 5 stars. From arrival to mentioning that our room wasn't ready, not enough could be done to accommodate us. We were upgraded to our own private pool villa which was amazing. The staff, in fact everyone, was so polite, accommodating and respectful. The ease of everything made it the best holiday we have had. Highly recommend this hotel and will absolutely come back again!

From the time that we arrived to the day we left the staff really couldn't do enough for us. On arrival we were given Room 350 by Golf the duty manager after sending an e-mail asking for a high room with a view of the beach. We had considered upgrading to one of the villas before we arrived but for us the room was just perfect so we didn't feel the need to move. The hotel is further out than most of the others, which means it's nice and quiet and allows you to totally unwind. It was our first ever visit to Thailand and normally we don't go back as the worlds a big place and there's so much to see. The Thai people though are amazing and warm and we wouldn't hesitate to go back to Thailand and the Apsara. We made the most of our time with a mixture of long walks on the beach that the hotel sits on as well as a number of trips into the national park to see the elephants, bamboo raft and a climb into the cliff temple as well as an unexpected overnight stay on one of the national park islands for my birthday. We came home with some incredible memories and can't thank the staff at Apsara as well as the Thai people for all that they did for us.
