First of all, the location is a good 20 min drive from civilization, restaurants, shopping. Shuttle buses are not free. Also bike rental comes with a price tag.
Secondly, I found the beach disappointing : at low tide (which was most of the day) the sea was quite a walk away. There are 2 pools. One is plain rectangular, the other has a small bar, but no place around to put your sunbed.
The rooms are ok, but not up to theusual beautifully exotic traditional Thai decor. Except for the beach restaurant, the dining areas are big, canteen like. The cocktail bar is far from cozy (though I was told that they were going to make some alterations) and bar personnel not trained at all. We had to wait a long time for our drinks, only to discover that they were being prepared at the other end of the hotel.
Front desk personnel is friendly, but the other staff is untrained.
The spa, on the other hand, is beautiful and staff was professional.
I would not go there again.

We stayed 10 days here and had a very relaxing time.

Our room was first class with a swim up patio and sun lounger area. Nice for a quiet moment or two at the end of the day. It was bright and airy and very clean. The bed was a tad firm for my liking but I managed to sleep okay!!

The swim up pool bar wasn't operating while we were there. In fact, looking at it, I think it has been some time since it was used.

We stayed in July which is off season. The hotel was very quiet with only a handful of guests. Dining was off a set menu to start with. This changed to a buffet when more guests arrived a few days later. I enjoyed the buffet more as you could sample different dishes.

The food was adequate and reasonably varied although fine dining it was not.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful although sometimes, in the evening, it took a while to get served at the bar. Not due to any great crowd I might add.......

The pool is pretty good and the sea great fun. Nice beach, big, breaking waves and very warm!! Not a place for snorkeling or sub-aqua activities though.

The seclusion of the place appealed to us as we just wanted to relax and enjoy the sun & sea. I could see this being a problem for younger people as there just wasn't anything laid on for guests especially of an evening.

All in all we enjoyed our stay however this place has the potential to be so much more than it delivers at the moment.

stayed in garden villa. beautiful accommodation. used sofa bed as three of us. the most comfortable sofa bed ever. very spacious villa. Thought we might regret not having pool villa, but as resort quiet, we had no problems at the main pool. air conditioning in villa fantastic. If I have to be critical, the staff at breakfast were a little slow at service, ie serving tea and coffee. The villas are very new, and maybe inexperienced staff. The lack of clients gave the place a ghostly feel, lacking 'atmosphere', which was a shame as it is a beautiful place. We didn't eat at villa restaurant because it wasn't clear that the restaurant was open (because empty, or one/two people only). we ate at 'Memories Bar' on the beach for lunch; and the beach restaurant at Apsaras beach resort in the evening. Food fine at all places. Main issue for us was the almost unbearable heat and humidity, which made staying outside in the evenings unbearable. Always glad to return the sanctuary of our air conditioned villa,

Room Tip: garden villa is absolutely fine. you don't really need pool villa as main pool was great

I stayed here for the first part of my holiday and i have to say that i was throughly disappointed.
The resort itself is clean and well kept, the reception staff were friendly and helpful, but the rest of the staff need a little training in customer care and communication and for the price that you are paying they need to be a lot more attentive.
It is just in the middle of nowhere, with really not that much to do, if you want to go into the town you need to get a taxi and there really are not many other restaurants close, saying that Memories, the beach restaurant just across the river serves the most amazing food with the best service, i would recommend anyone to visit here we pretty much ate here most nights.
The Restaurants in the resort serve overpriced medicore food that is not at all worth the money.
All in all a totally disappointing stay.
If you do decide to stay here make sure that you visit Hill Tribes restaurant, i am going to review this as it is one of the best Thai Restaurants that i have ever eaten in.

Just finished 2 weeks at the Apsaras Beach Resort, what a relaxing time. The hotel is in a very quiet location and away from the main areas of Khao Lak. In saying this is not a bad thing, there are still places to eat outside the hotel both north and south. Just over the creek is Memories and about 25 minute walk further south are more restaurants, Blue Mist and Mamas are worth a meal. To the north just in from the tsunami evacuation site are more restaurants, Rim Palm and Leang Lay are both good value. We rented a scooter to get around and this was a must. Town is about 15 minutes away if you want markets and shops. White Beach to the north is only 5 minute ride and another good place to spend a lazy afternoon. Near White Beach is the Boatyard restaurant, this place is a must for a feed, the steamed fish in lime, garlic and chilli and spicy pineapple and cashew salad are to die for. The Apsaras Beach Resort is in need of a little maintenance, for example the timber bridge over the pool is only sitting on concrete blocks as the timber supports have rotted away. Apart from a little TLC, this place is great. Like all Asian properties the bed was very firm. We had a pool access room which was great, walking off your balcony into the pool. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Consider the isolation of this location if staying in low season as a lot of restaurants may close.

I have been to a number of hotels in Thailand, but this one i will never return to again. Thailand is such a lovely place but this hotel does not live up to what Thailand is about. Every hotel we have stayed in had flowers in the grounds and in your room, not here. The hotel had a swim up bar, it did but it was not open for the 9 days we stayed at the hotel. Most of the staff walked around the hotel with no idea what they should be doing. It took ages to get a cup of tea in the morning at breakfast . At the side of the hotel their is a river that travels into the sea on our 3 day we saw lots of dead fish along the edge of the river/sea, the water that was left after the river/sea went out was green/brown and froffy, not something you should go in. The hotel looked tired parts of the hotel was not used, like on top of the beach bar. Talking about the beach bar, to pay for a drink the staff ran to another area of the hotel to get your change. I would never say this hotel was a 4 star, except for the new part of the hotel where it is so diffrent (Villias). No one eats in the hotel they all go to memories at about 7pm you see everyone leaving the hotel, that tells you something. The location of the hotel is about 15 minutes away from the town by cab

Although my wife and I just had 4 days in Apsaras, but we really enjoy the entire trip. We didn't do much for island hopping or water sports, we kinda like to spend the time in hotel, relaxing, walk on the beach, enjoy the food at Khao Lak center, massage........really had a great time!

For those who like to be quiet environment, I think Apsaras would be a great choice. Nice staffs at Apsaras, especially Ann & Gift (receptionist), Bishnu (supervisor) and others, they really really very nice and helpful all the time, gotta give a big thank you to them!

If possible in near future, will be back again to Apsaras, Khao Lak for a relaxing trip for me and my wife.

Cheers! =)
