Well a small restaurant managed by a couple the wife is working back of the house( kitchen, etc) , while husband work on front! All i can say is the food here is heavenly, i really recommend you to have the fried fish sweet and sour! Its really amazing its very rich in taste even the spaghetti. But the best thing here is the view and location though its far but its worth it.

Please be aware its three restaurants together dont forget to choose the middle one.

Having traveled from London to Phuket via Bangkok it was a welcome sight to see a sign for "Mr Dave" on the exit from the arrivals area. Mr Nueng the proprietor of Ao Thong Beach had arranged this pick up for us which was reasonably priced.

The bungalows are nicely separated and are quite simple but include everything that you need for this sort of place. A few chairs, large bed, large fridge, and en suite toilet and shower, and quiet and efficient Air con. You can pay a little more ( around 500 THB) for a bigger bungalow with an extra bed, and satellite TV. A large bottle of water was in the room when we arrived. We had a small problem with the shower dripping but this was fixed the next day. And although the rooms are not cleaned every day they were cleaned up mid week including a change of bedding and fresh towels. Maybe not a full breakfast menu but you get good coffee and toast included for residents, and you can also order french toast and omelets from around 10:00 a.m.

We really like Thai food and after the reviews on tripadvisor were looking forward to trying out the restaurant. Good real thai food at very good prices, always some fresh fish as well as the 'standard' curries and soups. We didn't try everything on the menu but we liked all the food we ate here. Also some some fresh lobster being delivered for a special meal which looked really good. Well worth a visit if staying in the nearby Sarojin or Le Meridien.

I needed to go into Khao Lak to visit a barbers, dive shop and ATM and Mr Neung ferried me around these places, and also sorted out a visit to the local elephant trekking (Sairung Elephant Camp) - much cheaper than the local tours. We were taken there by the local taxi that is available at the beach bungalows. We also used this very friendly (and prompt) service to take us to a few restaurants in Khao Lak in the evenings.

Room Tip: Try to get close to the beach, these are the furthest away from the (quiet) road.

the beach looks like a greek beach, full of tourists and sunbeds! not for me, which i hadn't left Koh Ra! bungalows are clean but poorly equiped...we only had one towel and when we asked for more we got another but no hand towels! plus no drinking water or glasses in the room! we have got alot better in much cheaper rooms! the room are in a car park rather than on the beach ours looked at a fallen down pig shed! there was also a strong manutre skin on one evening!

the owner seems to have notrhing to do with womeen he only spoke to my partner and only gruntted at me when i asked him things, since i had booked with him i found this quite rude and not something i would expect in a tourist area!

we also booked for the resort to pick us up from khao lak but when we rang to arrange this the owner just told us no and to get one there! this ended up costing us more as it was last minute.

the resturant was ok, but not as good as meals we had in town! the curries were for fareng with no heat in the red curry we ordered! the resturant has no breakfast menu so all we could get was a toasted sandwich for breakfast and no real coffee only instant (yuk!)

i will not go back, i paid more as i though this would be away from the crowds outside khoa lak but we might as well stayed in town it would have cost less and been more convient for getting to similain.

As many have mentioned before, the beach is beautiful. It wasnt til we arrived here that we felt we were on holidays, as there is nothing to do but relax. The staff are friendly, food is delicious and the restaurant is right on the beach - just perfect!
Mr Nueng is very helpful in booking snorkeling, elephant rides etc - definately worth letting him book for you. The snorkeling to the Similian Islands was absolutely fantastic and such good value. Elephant rides were also great, you could tell they are looked after very well. Both were a bit out of the way and not with all the tourist throngs - was very personal and enjoyable.
There is a massage place on the beach which is just amazing to relax in the shade for treatments.
We stayed in the family room as i heard they were newer. It was clean and comfortable no problems at all.
A taxi to Khao Lak is 600 baht return, so to do this everyday can get expensive - make sure you stock up on supplies of water, snacks and breakfast before you get there! There is a 7/11 up the road which is 150 baht return which has all the essentials.
Mr Nueng runs a tight ship and takes all the food orders. He often gets distracted trying to get tourists off the beach to come in for dinner, and a few of our meals were completely opposite to requested in terms of spicyness. The fish is fresh and amazing! Bring lots of insect spray, mozzies everywhere - but apparently no malaria.

Be sure to bring a clotheline, as i dried things on the verandah which is very wide - few of the dogs took up residence over night which made my stuff stink to high heaven and covered in dog hair!

I would go back a again, but probably only for a few days to relax then head closer to Bang NIang to do the sightseeing stuff.

Room Tip: Family rooms are newer.

Clean bungalows and grounds, great restaurant, great beach with slow descent to deeper water making it safe for kids. Free deck chairs. The grounds are safe for children. The beach can be busy during lunch time since tourists from Khaolak drive up on scooters for a few hours on the fabulous beach. We ate at both Le Meridean and Kantary Beach Resorts, a short walk away on the beach, and the food at Ao Thong was much better and a lot cheaper plus more variety. There are several beach cafes near Ao thong and if you stand out to sea you can see that Ao Thong is by far the most popular. There is a resident taxi driver who speaks passable English and is good at suggesting where you should go if you want to see something in particular. If I went back again I would hire a scooter in advance for the whole holiday since they are hard to come by during peak season. The rooms have a large fridge and the taxi drive will drop you at the supermarket in Khaolak where you can buy most things that you need. The owner does not get in until about 9:00 to 9:30am, and until then the only breakfast that is available is toast and coffee with powder creamer. Once the owner gets in the kitchen opens and a wider variety of breakfast food is available. Since, typical in Asia, the shower is open and in the same room as the toilet, take a thin sheet of plastic with you to put over the toilet to stop it getting wet when you shower. Clothes can easily be dried outside on the veranda although you could also take a clothes line and tie it to the banana trees at the back of the bungalows. In summary, an excellent hotel at a bargain price in a really relaxing atmosphere.

Room Tip: There are larger family rooms available; our bungalow consisted of a single room with a large bathro...

Clean sand. Free beach chairs. Drinks. Great food. Warm water. Sun. Hard combo to beat.
We stayed at Ao Thong 4 nights and enjoyed the rest and relaxation thoroughly.

The food was great - especially the garlic pork, which we sometimes had for both lunch and dinner.

The bungalows were clean and spacious, and while they weren't right on the beach, it still felt like staying on the beach (without a water view from the porch). Comfortable beds, lovely porch to relax on. Mr. Neung and his staff were very welcoming, and always there to offer a beverage. I think only one other bungalow was occupied, so it felt like our own private residence, with staff! Airport pickup and drop-off was on time, efficient and exactly as promised.

A word of caution - if the resident tailor tells you he'll make you a suit and if you don't like it you don't have to pay for it - RUN!! You probably won't like it, and the wailing, gnashing of teeth and invoking of god and starving family will not be one of your favorite vacation memories.

We were asked to pay a deposit by wire transfer, which was expensive and a bit inconvenient, but at the same time, I can understand why this would be necessary (though it was the only place on our 3 week tour through SE Asia where this was an issue).

The rooms weren't cleaned daily - in fat, they weren't cleaned at all the 4 nights we stayed - wasn't a big deal for us, but if that's your expectation, be forewarned.

We found this lovely little resort last year during a sightseeing tour and decided then that we would return for a stay there this year
We booked 5 nights in the family/large bungalow at the end of our Khao Lak trip for some r&r which we certainly got here
As they had only just re-opened at the end of the low season we were the first and only guests here, which was fine by us as we got all the attention :-)
After our check in we discovered that the TV's new digital set top box wasn't tuned in so Mr Nueng got a tecnician out to do it straight away, it was all up and running within half and hour
The room was lovely, spacious, with a double and single bed, which were very comfortable, flat screen TV, plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space, small table and chairs, big fridge and the bathroom was big and tiled, very good value for money
There wasn't a kettle and cups in the room but we asked and they were delivered to us within 5 mins, great service
There is free WIFI even in your room which I was happy about so I could use my laptop sitting on my balcony (which is massive) you have to get a password from reception
The bungalows are not directly on the beach even though they are called beach bungalows but are only a minute walk to the beach and restaurant, so don't expect a seaview or anything, however it is lovely at night time when it is all quiet and you can hear the waves
Breakfast isn't included in the price but you just choose from the varied menu and order what you want, prices are very good and cheap anyway
The restaurant is fantastic, good food and cheap and nice cold beers, one night we had the biggest and best tiger prawns which we ordered the day before, mmmm! yummo!
Ao Thong is set on the best beach in Khao Lak (White Sand Beach) and we had many long beach walks, and had many massages at Ao Thong at the beach huts there, great massage 300bhat oil massage and so relaxing listening to the sound of the waves while having a beautiful massage, there are plenty of sun loungers on the beach for guests and non-guests have to pay 100bhat which is fair enough
However, it isn't located within walking distance into Khao Lak town or Bang Niang for shopping and more dining options but a taxi is waiting there to take you in so no problem
The only thing that i would like to see more of is some plants and shrubs around the bungalow area, but only because I like to see greenery and gardens, it makes it more homely, but that might come in time as some of the bungalows are fairly new (a year old) there are plenty of palm trees around and up the centre of the driveway that are lovely
The other thing is that there isn't a daily service of the rooms, the girls came in once during our stay and cleaned up but didn't leave clean towels, but when we asked we got some so no problem really
it is afterall cheap accommodation and great value for lovely newish bungalows so you can't expect 5* service for the price....can you?
Mr Nueng was a perfect host for us and we really enjoyed our stay here, we can't wait to return again
Thank you Mr Nueng and all the staff at Ao Thong bungalows we will see you all again someday :-)
