Other than a small bathroom, everything else was great. Very friendly management and staff, beautiful grounds.

Room was good enough size. Clean. Bed had mosquito netting that was in good shape, couple small holes was all. Number of plugs for charging cameras etc.. Bathroom a bit small. Shower worked ok enough. Lodge itself is well kept. Grounds were very nice. Food was good. Only thing to note is that this lodge is in the middle of a neighborhood. You wouldn't expect that for a Safari lodge but it was. Heard barking dogs and coosters from early on each morning we were there.

Our entire group stayed here before and after climbing Killimanjaro, and it was absolutely perfect for getting ready for/recovering from the climb. We walked into town both days before our trip, the locals were gorgeous and friendly and although it was a gated community in the hotel itself all the staff (apart from the owner) were locals who were attentive and friendly. The rooms were large so preparing for the climb and deciding what to take was easy and we were incredibly relaxed before setting off - contribute lack of stress the whole way a big plus for the success of the climb (all our group made the summit and all but one of the other group we climbed with). Also, beds were comfortable and didn't suffer at all from jetlag through great nights sleep as we literally all flew in and out for the climb itself. Food was a lot better than I expected and sincerely appreciated the full bar on the last night. And the gardens are absolutely gorgeous.
On the way back it was like coming home to shower and then dinner with the friendly owner and his staff who looked after us so well. Was very sad to leave.
I think this place is perfect for setting off somewhere and coming back to, there were a lot of groups staying there and if you want quiet to get your mind together for climbing Meru or Kili or both it's the perfect set off point.

The rooms are not great. The bathrooms are run down and tiny, but the grounds and staff make up for it. We really enjoyed our stay, but if you're looking for a fluffy bed and bubble bath, this is not the place for you. It's rustic, but charming at the same time. As we toured around Tanzania we could not help but notice that customer service was lacking almost everywhere. At the Ilboru, they put customer service at the top of the list. Everyone went out of their way to be sure we had an enjoyable time. The food was great too. No TV, but that was ok. The sign is hidden by branches so it is difficult to find the road (no street signs) so just ask a local down on the main road, they know where it is.

Stayed here for four nights in November 2009. I echo all of the positive comments below - this is a great place to stay, good value, good food. Sometimes larger groups stay, sometimes it's only individual sets of travellers, but the large groups rarely impact the atmosphere. Staff and owner are extremely friendly and helpful, there are some interest products in the two small shops, and food and drinks are reasonably priced. The pool is also good. Nice to stay somewhere away from the touts in the centre of town.

Note that this is some way from the town so you will need a taxi, but this isn't too big a hassle (I did walk back more than once, only sometimes getting lost!). The internet connection was not working when I stayed (but perhaps it was good to get a break from that too). I stayed in the main building, where the room was cool, bright and comfortable.

We stayed here in August of 2009 at the start and end of our Tanzanian safari with Basecamp Tanzania. The food was fantastic and the staff were very attentive and made you feel like part of the family. The owner came and saw us on multiple occasions to make sure we were being looked after.

We were traveling with my parents, wife and brother but the place looked ok for young kids. The swimming looked well looked after though it was too cold for us to use it.

Free wifi and computers available was a plus.

I have to say again that the staff really went out of their way to help. We actually had a problem with a laptop and they helped where they could to find us the CD's we needed to fix it....definitely more than would be expected.

The bar area was comfortable and great for groups.

The food was really good, locally supplied and authentic.
