Stayed here for four nights in November 2009. I echo all of the positive comments below - this is a great place to stay, good value, good food. Sometimes larger groups stay, sometimes it's only individual sets of travellers, but the large groups rarely impact the atmosphere. Staff and owner are extremely friendly and helpful, there are some interest products in the two small shops, and food and drinks are reasonably priced. The pool is also good. Nice to stay somewhere away from the touts in the centre of town.

Note that this is some way from the town so you will need a taxi, but this isn't too big a hassle (I did walk back more than once, only sometimes getting lost!). The internet connection was not working when I stayed (but perhaps it was good to get a break from that too). I stayed in the main building, where the room was cool, bright and comfortable.

We stayed here in August of 2009 at the start and end of our Tanzanian safari with Basecamp Tanzania. The food was fantastic and the staff were very attentive and made you feel like part of the family. The owner came and saw us on multiple occasions to make sure we were being looked after.

We were traveling with my parents, wife and brother but the place looked ok for young kids. The swimming looked well looked after though it was too cold for us to use it.

Free wifi and computers available was a plus.

I have to say again that the staff really went out of their way to help. We actually had a problem with a laptop and they helped where they could to find us the CD's we needed to fix it....definitely more than would be expected.

The bar area was comfortable and great for groups.

The food was really good, locally supplied and authentic.

We spent the night before the start of our safari here and the night at the end of it.
There is a lovely garden and a beautiful pool, the rooms are a little dark but very clean and nicely furnished. What really made us like this place though was the friendly and attentive service from all the staff and the wonderful food - we had a swahilli banquet of 11 dishes and a green babana and bean curry for lunch. The manager / person in charge of the kitchen, who is Dutch, made a real point of taliing to everyone and on our first night the kitchen staff came out to sing to us - this is a one off lovely place.

We recently stayed at Ilboru while traveling from Nairobi to the northern Tanzania parks.

Ilboru is a delightful place. It is located in town though up a local dirt road - making it quiet and removed from any traffic noise. It has well-kept grounds with beautiful gardens, a nice pool, and clean and tidy cottages. Wireless internet is free and available in the public areas and the bar / snack room - itself a cozy and friendly setting.

General manager Ad Van Beurden happened by during check-in, and he was quick to introduce himself and provide information about the lodge and the surrounding area. Both Ad and his large staff were genuinely interested in our comfort and satisfaction, and no measure of hospitality was left unattended. On the occasions that we ran into Ad in passing, he was no less interested in our thoughts. His enthusiasm for his lodge was contagious !

Ilboru compares favorably with its peers and many much more expensive resort lodges. At just over 100 dollars per night, it is a remarkable value. With dinner and breakfast included, it is a "steal".

We found the food tasty and nicely prepared at both meals and that seemed to be the sentiment of others who were staying there as well.

In short, we can recommend Ilboru without any hesitation. Our stay was exceptional and we look forward to a return visit in the future. It is perfect for climbers or tourists on the northern route, and a great place just to "get away" for a few days.

We stayed at llboru Safari Lodge Arusha for three nights prior to our Mt. Kilimanjaro climb and one night after our climb. The lodge is clean and the gardens are very well maintained. The Lodge Owner Ad (Dutch) delivered exceptional service and always checked to make sure we were okay. The food at the lodge is fantastic and Ad kindly organized a special dinner of wild game and buffalo on the day we returned from Kilimanjaro! Ad kindly took us into Arusha for his weekly shop at the weekend markets so we could really have a great insight into a different side to Tanzanian life. The lodge has Wifi throughout which was perfect as we traveled with a laptop. Can strongly recommend llboru as the base for pre and post Mt. Kilimanjaro. We booked through Base Camp Tanzania.

Wonderful treed setting, clean rooms, fine pool, excellent service from a willing staff, good food, free internet complete with computers and Ad Van Beurden the most helpful managing director. This is an excellent location to begin your safari in Northern Tanzania. The narrow dirt road with a helter skelter of shacks,, small homes and kiosks can be a bit off putting, especially after a rain, but the lodge is simply a marvel complete with the friendliest staff.

My wife and I stayed here for a night before and a night after our Kili climb.

The lodge is a couple of km up a seriously rutted and dusty side road not far outside of Arusha. This doesn't make a great first impression, but on arrival you're greeted by immaculately maintained grounds and very friendly staff.

There is a lovely pool with plenty of shade around it to relax in. Each pair of rooms is in one of the standalone huts spread around the grounds, with a little secluded area for sitting outside.

The food in the restaurant is quite good - breakfast is a typical buffet and dinner for our group was a nicely varied selection of African dishes.

The rooms themselves are very dark, but fairly comfortable.

The only real downside of the lodge is the next-to-useless showers (and no shampoo provided) - all members of our group failed to get much more than a dribble from the showers, which is a great shame when you've just spent a week climbing Kili.
