We booked the trip from The Netherlands in advance, and the experience could not have been better. We knew the price since the beggining, and they were a bit cheaper than other companies we checked with. The main advantage for our group (we were 12 people) it was that it was a local agency, so they are much more familiar with the mountain and all the things around. I definetely think the experience is much better this way. The service from the agency was really good (european standards). The food felt a bit too few the last couple of days, but in general was good. All transportations (from and to the airport) were on time and very good.
Trek up to Kilimanjaro: We did a 7 days (it can be done perfectly in 6) trek via the Machame rout. The agency provided all needed, excluding the sleeping bags that some of us rented in a shop in Arusha where they brought us (good quality). The guides were also very nice. We had 6 guides and one "student guide". They had all a lot of knowledge about the mountain and it looked also that they had quite some experience. I don´t know if it is the same with all guides in Tanzania, but I was surprised about the great preparation of ours. Tony, Praygod, Nass, Jackson, Paulo are some of them. Great guys.
After the mountain 6 of us went with them to a short 2 days safari as well. These 2 days were really nice!! We followed their advice because in 2 days you cannot go too far and you cannot do much. They recommended one day in Tarangire and one day in Gnorongoro. We followed that and the trip was very nice. Our guide (Hillary) was awesome. He managed to show us ALL the animals, at least all the important ones besided the Leopard, that apparently is very difficult to see :-(
After the safari again they brought us to another hotel in Arusha and to the airport the day after. The food in the safari was more than enough, we were a bit surprised by the change, but I guess it is easier to have more supplies when you are not in the mountain for 4 days.
In general I had a great experience with Clinton (the owner of Africa Joys) and his team.
