“First night in Africa.... What a treat”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

This was our first experience of africa and what a pleasant one, all staff were lovely got upgraded to a suite...which was AMAZING! The bed was so big the two of us couldnt touch hands, with each of us lying on the edge of the bed! Stand alone Bath and shower you could fit 4 people in Easily.
When we got the there it was lashing rain but we sat on our terrace and enjoyed the rain having a beer from our Mini bar. The food is absolutely gorgeous, breakfast was such a treat, no buffet just order from a menu. The bar has a great atmosphere and the everything is so clean. The plantation is a place i would definitely stay again!

We had low expectations after reading a few reviews, but we absolutely loved our two nights in Arusha Coffee Lodge! It was charming, beautiful, with great service. The entire town of Arusha was just a wonderful place to start our safari. We spent two nights, and on our full day in Arusha we went on a private game drive to Arusha National Park. It was a beautiful park where we saw things we didn't see anywhere else (the black-and-white Colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and countless baboons). Spending two nights in Arusha at the start of a safari is a nice thing to do... you can get some rest, start recovering from jet lag, and take a day trip to the park. Our experience at Arusha Coffee Lodge was great. The service was impeccable. The only negative was the breakfast food which was atrocious. But the service was great and the dinner there was amazing (apparently their chef only works at night?). The dinner was luxurious and romantic. Our little hut was charming and beautiful. Walking around the grounds was nice. We really enjoyed our time, and would stay there again. We booked our trip through &Beyond (andBeyond.com) and stayed in Tanzania a total of 14 nights, staying at 4 different lodges. This was the only lodge that was not owned by &Beyond, but it was great and we enjoyed our time there. I definitely recommend booking your trip through &Beyond. They will take care of all the details and transfers. They arranged a meet-and-greet and Kilimanjaro Airport when we arrived, and it was such a relief to have our wonderful greeter/transfer driver (S.P.) take care of our visas and drive us to Arusha. He was a joy to work with and the whole experience at Arusha was a wonderful start to our safari.

Room Tip: Any room is great.

Our time in Tanzania began with the hotel forgetting to pick us up from the airport as arranged! We had to take a cab and were taken through townships and on quiet sand roads not knowing if we were ever going to reach the hotel...but we did and by the time we left the next day, our fear and anger had turned to pure enjoyment from staying at this wonderful and welcoming oasis...literally in the middle of nowhere. The general manager dealt with our fear and anger on our arrival very well and not only gave us a free dinner, but arranged for a tour of the coffee plantation the next day and generally gave us wonderful service. The staff are all so warm and friendly. The rooms are well appointed and very clean. this is the perfect place to spend a night before beginning a safari.

Room Tip: They have just built new rooms which are much nicer than the older ones...ask for the Plantation Roo...

We arrived in Kilimanjaro after a long flight and had arranged for a driver to take us to Arusha Coffee Lodge. Even though we were there only 1 night, it was nice to have a beautiful place to stay and enjoyed sitting on the patio for our dinner and breakfast the next morning before embarking on our safari trip. It took ~45min from the airport to the coffee lodge and then the next day we went to Arusha airport (only 5min from the lodge). Our room was cute and we slept well after such a long journey. We enjoyed the food we had there as well (they have an outdoor pizza oven). Side note: they have a registered tanzanite dealer shop on the grounds so would highly recommend buying here if you are going to buy any.

As a lodge this place is well-equipped, but it's a bit far from the airport if you've just arrived or if you are leaving. We had a good breakfast there but a very mediocre buffet lunch where the staff wasn't even minding the food. A wok was present but no one was around to operate it, and it was hard to serve yourself dessert without having a fair share of bees who were devouring the cakes and puddings. We were on an all-inclusive tour and were told that lunch was included, but then the waitress gave us a bill for drinks. Drinks had been included throughout our trip, and no one had told us that they were not included here. A minor incident, probably more the fault of Leopard Tours than of the hotel. But it does show how the staff at the Coffee Lodge fail to communicate, and this is what causes confusion from time to time.

This was the last stop of our safari and we found it to be memorable as we are guided through the aromatic coffee bean fields and then served a fabulous barbeque lunch as well as sample some of the best coffee we ever tasted. Being out on the patio relaxing while taking in this wonderful plantation will be a memory we will always cherish.

We stayed at the Arusha Legendary Lodge for only one night, but everything about it was excellent. The rooms are spacious and tasteful, the staff helpful, and the grounds lush and well-manicured. It is a working coffee plantation, and therefore has great coffee and a wonderful colonial "Out of Africa" feel. The food is superb-- much better than what we encountered elsewhere in Tanzania. Highly recommended if you are traveling through Arusha.

Room Tip: We stayed in a stunning villa with a view of Mount Meru
