We did a four day safari and had a fantastic time. Our guide, Isaac, was exactly what we hoped for in a guide: he was incredibly knowledgeable and completely attuned to what we in particular wanted. We chose to go with the less expensive "camp" lodges, and I recommend these for anyone. This wan't camping, but bedrooms under giant tents and then covered by thatch roofs, each with a private bathroom and hot shower attached to the room. further, the camps we stayed in all had excellent service: I expect they did a much better job choosing good accomodations than we could have. We didn't spend a lot of time negotiating the price, and so I'm not sure if there were better deals out there. We had 4 days of safari including Manyara, Ngorongoro, and Tarengire, and 6 nights in camps/lodges. they charged $1550 per person in June (2 persons). I am glad I went with their company but do wish we'd discussed the price a bit more.

Safari was well cut out to our requirements and exceeded our expectations. Tanzania is beautiful. Loved the natural setting of Katikati camp the best - fit in totally with our feeling of being in Africa. Our guide Raphael was a pleasure to be with, taught us a lot about the flora and fauna. We booked our own flight from Serengeti and accommodation at Neptune Pwani in Zanzibar island, worked out well too.

Ours was a four day / three night safari, with the first part in Serengeti and the second part in Ngorongoro crater. It all began when I, like apparently everyone else, searched for safari operators on the Internet in general and trip advisor in particular. After some researching, I sent off a set of inquiries for pricing etc, and it became clear rater quickly than Roy Safari was the right operator for us. Quick replies, clear information, and good suggestions on what we should do. I now know that they suggested just the right itinerary for us.
Then the day before we were to arrive in Arusha, they sent an email notifying me that our flight (Precision Air) had changed from Arusha to Kilimanjaro airport and that they would redirect their driver accordingly. I wouldn't have noticed this otherwise.
Our guide and driver, Issac, was equally great: extremely polite and accommodating, knowledgeable about the parks and their wildlife, respectful towards the animals, an excellent driver - and he just knew where to go to see what we wanted to see.
I have nothing bad to say about them, everything worked out great!

We did a seven day safari with Roy's, and it was brilliant! We had the incomparable Thomas as our knowledgable, reliable, patient, guide. He was a brilliant driver, but he also shared so much about the wildlife, local cultures, language and stories. We loved him! The safari was perfect, thanks to Roy's advice and Thomas's careful attention to timing, optimal viewing, and our needs.

Even when things weren't perfect (one hotel was overbooked) Roy's sorted it out with a money back guarantee (we were upgrade to the explorean, including drinks, which was paradise!).

We were a group of six friends, and this was the trip of a life time.

Our family of five traveled to Tanzania in March and planned our land excursions with Hilda at Roy Safaris. It was a pleasure from beginning to end. Hilda customized our trip for our length of stay which was 13 nights. Our first 9 days were spent heading up to and in the Serengeti and the last four were in Zanzibar. We started at Roy's lovely hotel in Arusha, the African Tulip. On route to the Serengeti, we stayed at Tarangire Safari Lodge in Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara Serena in the Lake Manyara National Park. Both of these had lovely accommodations, views and wonderful days of seeing animals in those parks. In the Serengeti we stayed in the Katikati tent camp which was more rustic but we certainly felt one with nature as we heard the night sounds from our tent! There was a lovely dining tent and a campfire each night before dinner....memorable. The Serengeti involves alot of off-roading and you never know what you will see around the next bend, but you can be sure of lots of wildebeests and zebras! We were treated to just about every animal...cheetas (and lots of babies who climbed on our car);lions; gazelles; African birds; giraffes. We then stayed at Ndutu Safari lodge, also very nice. Our last stop on the mainland was Ngorongoro Crater where we spent two nights at the Serena Lodge which was lovely. I might add that all of our meals in these various accommodations were delicious and beautifully prepared and served. All the hotel staff in our various accommodations were so friendly and could not have been more helpful.
A full paragraph is owed to our wonderful driver for nine days, Emmanuel. He was so knowledgeable and so good at looking for and spotting animals. He never 'missed a beat' in terms of our getting checked into accommodations, providing us with great picnic lunches and making sure we got out early to see animals, if we needed to, or were able to sleep in a bit, if we didn't need to be out super early. Thank you Emmanuel!
Our last four nights were spent in Zanzibar. Hilda at Roy arranged for our air transportation from Arusha to Stonetown, Zanzibar on Precision Air, a great airline with what seemed to be new planes. She booked 3 nights at the Blue Bay Beach Hotel, which was truly lovely. The rooms were great, food delicious and the Indian Ocean was a nice treat for a few nights. From there we took a snorkeling excursion and a spice tour. Our last day and night were in Stonetown at the Zanzibar Serena Hotel which was a really beautiful old world feel hotel on the water in Stonetown.
The pool was lovely and the location allowed us to take a tour (arranged by Island Express) of the daily market. We also booked a sunset Dhow cruise with Island Express and it turned out that it was just for our family. It was a lovely way to end our African vacation!
Hilda at Roy looked out for us the whole time. When Precision Air changed the time of their flight from Stonetown back to the mainland she made all arrangements for us to make sure we were able to get our flight home. We HIGHLY recommend Roy Safari's when you are planning your trip to Tanzania! Thank you Hilda and Emmanuel. We HIGHLY recommend a Tanzanian vacation like we had for the trip of a lifetime! We will be back for another memorable vacation as there is so much to see and appreciate in this amazing country.
