After many years of wishing to go to an African safari we finally were able to fulfil our wish in June on a trip with Bright Safaris. We chose this company after a recommendation from friends and were not disappointed.
Aside from the recommendation of our friends what gave us immense comfort before the trip was the high level of communication that we had from Msangi. I had many questions for him over a number of weeks and all queries were usually answered within the same day or even sooner. We had unorthodox requests such as special dietary requirements due to allergies and we requested hotel rooms for a few hours which was arranged for us at what we felt was a reasonable cost.
Our guide Halifa was excellent, knowledgable and very professional. I would thoroughly recommend him.
We had a customised itinerary which took us through Arusha, Tarangire, Ndutu, Serengeti and Ngorogoro reserve. Comments on specific parks are below:
Arusha - this is a simple park close to the main city. A half a day is enough here, it is a good introduction to the safari circuit and will be close to the first hotel you stay at. Not the highlight of the trip and it can be avoided.
Tarangire - This is the place to get your elephant fix, they are everywhere. There are other animals including lions however expect to get all your elephant shots here.
Ndutu - the unique feature of this park is that you can drive off road. We were lucky enough to see two prides of lions here. Seeing lots of hippos is standard and there are many other animals around here
Serengeti - this is the jewel in the crown, spend as much time as you can here. We saw everything except Rhinos here and it is a surreal place.
Ngorogoro - this is a beautiful place with all of the big 5 in a confined space. I would also try and spend a decent amount of time here, at least 2 days as there is so much to see and a high likelihood of seeing the big 5 in here.
Accommodation- we stayed in a number of places including KIA lodge, Planet lodge, Osopuko lodge, Lake Masek tented camp, Osopuko tented camp (Serengeti), Ngorogoro Rhino lodge and Ngorogoro Sopa lodge. We also stayed at the Impala hotel on our way out.
All accommodation was great with the exception of the Impala hotel which I would make sure you avoid. We were only here for a few hours before our flight so thankfully it did not cause too many issues. All other accommodation had a clean bed, clean bathroom and wonderful staff who could help us enough.
Overall we had a great trip and Bright Safaris is a great little local tour operator who genuinely cares about their guests. Throughout the trip I felt completely relaxed and I never felt unsafe and I never felt like anyone was going to exploit us. Relatively speaking Bright Safaris had very competitive pricing especially when one considers that Tanzania is quite an expensive country.
I would happily visit Tanzania with Bright Safaris again in the future.
