“Our best holiday ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

After many years of wishing to go to an African safari we finally were able to fulfil our wish in June on a trip with Bright Safaris. We chose this company after a recommendation from friends and were not disappointed.

Aside from the recommendation of our friends what gave us immense comfort before the trip was the high level of communication that we had from Msangi. I had many questions for him over a number of weeks and all queries were usually answered within the same day or even sooner. We had unorthodox requests such as special dietary requirements due to allergies and we requested hotel rooms for a few hours which was arranged for us at what we felt was a reasonable cost.

Our guide Halifa was excellent, knowledgable and very professional. I would thoroughly recommend him.

We had a customised itinerary which took us through Arusha, Tarangire, Ndutu, Serengeti and Ngorogoro reserve. Comments on specific parks are below:

Arusha - this is a simple park close to the main city. A half a day is enough here, it is a good introduction to the safari circuit and will be close to the first hotel you stay at. Not the highlight of the trip and it can be avoided.

Tarangire - This is the place to get your elephant fix, they are everywhere. There are other animals including lions however expect to get all your elephant shots here.

Ndutu - the unique feature of this park is that you can drive off road. We were lucky enough to see two prides of lions here. Seeing lots of hippos is standard and there are many other animals around here

Serengeti - this is the jewel in the crown, spend as much time as you can here. We saw everything except Rhinos here and it is a surreal place.

Ngorogoro - this is a beautiful place with all of the big 5 in a confined space. I would also try and spend a decent amount of time here, at least 2 days as there is so much to see and a high likelihood of seeing the big 5 in here.

Accommodation- we stayed in a number of places including KIA lodge, Planet lodge, Osopuko lodge, Lake Masek tented camp, Osopuko tented camp (Serengeti), Ngorogoro Rhino lodge and Ngorogoro Sopa lodge. We also stayed at the Impala hotel on our way out.

All accommodation was great with the exception of the Impala hotel which I would make sure you avoid. We were only here for a few hours before our flight so thankfully it did not cause too many issues. All other accommodation had a clean bed, clean bathroom and wonderful staff who could help us enough.

Overall we had a great trip and Bright Safaris is a great little local tour operator who genuinely cares about their guests. Throughout the trip I felt completely relaxed and I never felt unsafe and I never felt like anyone was going to exploit us. Relatively speaking Bright Safaris had very competitive pricing especially when one considers that Tanzania is quite an expensive country.

I would happily visit Tanzania with Bright Safaris again in the future.

“Experience of a lifetime!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

My wife and I have dreamed of visiting Africa and experiencing the thrill of seeing animals in the wild. I started the research on finding the best safari company early in March for our July safari. I qualified each company largely through TripAdvisor reviews and Bright Africa had all excellent and very good ratings. But what I was most impressed with was how quickly and clearly all of my questions were addressed and answered. Msangi was always spot-on and I would typically have same-day responses! Bright Africa was also very competitive in their pricing of our 5 day safari with luxury accommodations. In the end; we chose Bright Africa! Like everyone else; I was a little apprehensive about wire transferring the down payment but let me put your fears to rest; your money is safe and this is a trustworthy company.
When we arrived in JRO late at night we were met by a driver from Bright Africa ($50 extra but worth it.) holding a sign with our names on it. He took us to our first lodge for the night, the Outpost. A very comfortable if not too fancy room had us well rested for the next day. We also booked an extra day to rest up and recover from jet lag before starting our safari. This worked out great; a low-cost day to relax and revive for the big days ahead. Due to high bookings we had to bounce around a little, walking across the street to Pamoja Lodge the next day. Again a very comfortable room and good food (try the pizza!). We met a couple of groups from around the world that night for a few beers; great fun! Msangi met with us that day to see that we were comfortable and to let us know when our safari would start. (nice touch!)
We were met by our guide, "Hoffman" the next morning who took us to Arusha Park for a game drive, canoeing, and a hike to the falls. This was a great and gentle start to our safari. The canoeing is a "can't miss"!
The next day we took the long, tough journey to the Serengeti. Be prepared, this is long, bumpy and dusty. It is a LONG day! Beautiful sights along the way and the incredible Serengeti Sopa Lodge awaited our arrival. This is an experience you will not forget! Great food, stunning views and cold beer...heaven!
We spent the next couple days in the Serengeti seeing all of the Big Five except the black rhino. All along Hoffman was a perfect gentleman guide, making sure we were comfortable and was a walking wildlife encyclopedia. It is evident he truly loves his job and the parks he knows so well. I can not say enough about this gracious host. A true pro!
Our last safari day was in Ngorongoro Crater and we stayed at the majestic Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Another can't miss folks! The crater experience was awesome and we did complete our Big 5 bingo by seeing a black rhino up close! Last we had the long drive back (ugh, dust, bumps,) to the Bright Africa office. Our debrief was to be sure that we were satisfied and happy; of course we were. From talking to other travelers in the lodges I know that we had the best experience!
A few tips: Get off your butt and look around! Your guide will do his best but he has only two eyes and is driving the truck as well. Try to find more animals than he does. Soon you'll be spotting the critters too!
Communicate! Your guide may be as good as Hoffman but he can't read your mind. Tell him specifically what you want to see, what you want to do etc.
Learn! the language that is; learn at least cursory Swahili and you will see the reward.

“We loved our customised safari trip”

Masengi was very helpful in personalizing our trip to africa from CA.USA. In 8 days we covered a lot. Charles was our driver in kenya, Very knowledgeable about the park and history, hotels were very nice and food was delicious. Always on or before time.
Salim was our driver/guide in Tanzania, young and funny he was entertaining and informative.
He went an extra mile to make sure we saw all the animals, He made it possible for us to see Big 5.
I enjoyed our stay in the tented camp at Serengeti and sopa lodge at the crater was super nice with awesome view of the crater, sunset and sunrise.
we did not care for the Tarengri park, nor the hotel. But our overall trip was excellent, Great tour company with good service from the start to end. They are trustworthy especially with the money transaction you want someone reliable.
