This was a unique place to stay, partly because it is surrounded by greenery (Kiboko means Hippo in Swahili, with the swamp having been visited by hippos in the past) but mainly because the lodge supports two local projects by giving employment and financial support: a school for former boys on the street, and a local women's association. We met these local women and thanks to our excellent local interpreter, were able to exchange on their lives and our lives while grinding and roasting our own coffee from their farms. Although bikes are offered, it is not realistic to do bike tours other than a few minutes away (bad local paths). The staff is friendly and the cooking is delicious.

Room tip: Near the swamp because you can hear all the birds

First of all Kiboko Lodge is set in an idyllic place at the doorstep of Arusha National Park. We used it to bypass Arusha city and we were not disappointed at all. Frank and all the team are amazing people. Caring and professional. The rooms are comfortable and nice. But I must say that the noble cause they form part of transcends everything else. Watoto Foundation, of which Kiboko form part, is an organisation that takes care of street children. Over 900 street boys have had the opportunity to become independent ment because of this foundation. So what else could we ask for...beautiful place, amazing people and a noble cause. The only regret is not spending more time there!

Room tip: All rooms are great ... especially the ones where you can view the passageway all lit up with candles at night.

Thanks for your nice review and good to hear that you appreciated also the visit of our main Watoto Foundation centre in Makumira where our student get a four years Education also for the hotel industry. To visit the Arusha national park is indeed a very nice safari in one of the beautiful parks of Tanzania with the highest density per km2 for giraffes in the world.

I highly recommend Kiboko Lodge. It is linked with Watoto Foundation. Frank and all the staff are excellent people who make you feel very comfortable and at home, the place is breathtaking, the food is really good, and the rooms very nice and comfortable. It’s a pity we had a very short stay there, and we were sorry to leave because the people there become fast friends.

We ended our safari tour here to relax prior to going to Zanzibar. What a very pleasant place to stay! People are extremely friendly and you really feel at home. The view of the terras is beautiful, the food delicious and the camp fire after dinner is nice to relax and talk with the other guests and the employees. We did a river walk which was a big adventure which we and our boys (9 and 11) really liked. We also visited the Watoto foundation child in the sky project and were impressed with the great work done by the foundation. We also had a bush walk with a very nice guide. A really nice place which we would certainly recommend.

Really great lodge, tranquile atmosphere and very dedicated, skilled and friendly staff.
Of the beaten track, close to the entrance of Arusha national park.
With a little luck you'll spot one of the hippo's that live just outside the lodge.
