Via Via has a great vibe and as a cafe its just ok. My best times to go there are on Thursday nights when other young volunteers and local people join together on Via Via's dance floor. Its a fun time for everyone.

This place is foreign-owned and caters to a mixed crowd of foreigners and Tanzanians. It is located close to the facility holding the Rwandan War Crimes Tribunal, so it gets an international clientele.

The music is eclectic. We heard some African sounds, but also the blues and jazz. Keb Mo and BB King in Tanzania! The restaurant has some live music nights. The location and grounds are a nice respite from the mania that the Arusha streets can be.

The menu is also eclectic and will have food easily identifiable to a non-Tanzanian. it was good - a little higher priced than some in Arusha, but that reflects the clientele and atmosphere they are going for.

We had lunch there - just a nice, easy place to sit and rest our tired feet and listen to some good music. The beers and the food cost a little more than they would have a couple blocks into downtown - but the relaxing atmosphere is worth some extra if that's what you are looking for...

I expected the turbans-and-handicrafts feel of ViaVia to include a menu with interesting vegetarian food but it's mostly standard steak/chicken/fish stuff. nothing especially exciting or exotic. My avocado salad was a bit drenched in dressing and the Tanzanian mozzarella was a bit limp and sticky, otherwise nice. Good juice selection.

It seems to be a safe place to eat near a museum. They would not serve to us a fish dish we requested admitting it was too old to cook.I take such honesty anytime rather than food poisoning. A friend received another dish undercooked. Service was slow. The place acceptably nice. The salad was safe to eat for the Western stomach. It was recommended to us as a nice casual place in Arusha. The outdoor sitting dinning area was pleasant. You have to take this place in the context of what Arusha has to offer.
