The African Tulip is a wonderful facility with a thoughtful and caring staff. Excellent in every way. The staff were kind and friendly and went out of there way to please. Special Recognition to Philip at the front desk as well as Chef Joseph who makes the best pizza in all of Africa!

Stayed at the Tulip on two occassions while on a photo safari. Great hotel recently built. The owner also owns Roy's Safaris next door and was on sight to make sure everything was as expected. Nice upscale rooms and good service. Beautiful small hotel and grounds. Highly recommended.

Also can't go wrong with Roy's Safaris. Great guides. We had James, Joshua, and Salvatore.

Sanjay the owner was very helpful when we had a unique problem and is a very gracious host.

Nice place to stay before or after your safari

The interior design of the Hotel is really well done and very pretty - we liked it a lot .
We did not like Arusha that much, but as you need t0 spend here 1 or 2 nights anyway this is a pleasant oasis

My wife and I stayed at the African Tulip for two nights as part of a multi-day safari in northern Tanzania. From the time we got there about mid-afternoon 'til we left two days later (and then returned for a quick shower and change before flying home) we were very pleased with the Tulip. The staff could not have been any more helpful or friendly. And, I really appreciated Edward hailing a cab and negotiating fare for our venture to a local restaurant one evening. And, the one server had a beautiful voice as she sang along with a cd in the empty dining room. (not as an entertainer but simply a happy employee during a time when no one else was around).

The hotel is located adjacent to the headquarters for Roy Safari on a side street just back from a busy road for a quiet, peaceful setting.

Our room was spacious, comfy, and clean. The air-conditioning made for a great night's sleep and enjoyable lounging during the one afternoon. The window "bench" was perfect for taking a nap or for the wife doing counted cross-stitch with plenty of natural light. The bathroom was well laid out and roomy. We understood the TV and related inhouse Intranet were not operable as the system was being worked on at the time. This was not an issue for us. The decor for the entire hotel was tastefully done in African themes with the artificial baobab tree in the dining room quite the feature! Lot of use of wood! Food was very good based on the one dinner and two breakfasts we had.

Outside, the pool and lounge patio areas were bordered with beautiful shrubs and trees with several species of colorful birds at least in the early morning. According to my wife, prices in the gift shop were competitive with what we later saw even at roadside craft and curio stands.
Given the opportunity to return to northern Tanzania we definitely would stay at the African Tulip particularly if going on safari with Roy Safari.
Since the rate for staying at the African Tulip Hotel was part of the total package for the safari I really can not determine value in regards to rating this aspect of the review.

We stayed at this hotel for one night in September after returning from a one-week safari. We found the hotel to be comfortable and stylish. We considered some other hotels in Arusha, but they all felt like big modern hotels you could find anywhere in the world. We chose African Tulip because of the African feel. During the day we walked to the city centre (5-10 minute walk, though plan to encounter hawkers on the way - very annoying, but harmless) and did some shopping at Masai Market, which has everything from jewelery to artwork and more. We spent some time in the afternoon by the pool, which we really enjoyed. We were advised not to walk into town after dark, so we had dinner at the hotel, which had a mix of african and more western menu options and was pretty good.

Warning - Be prepared to pay a surchase if you pay for the hotel by credit card. They added 7% to our bill, which was a surprise.

We booked our Tanzanian Safari through Roy's Safaris, and I think they own this hotel in Arusha, which incidentally is next door to their safari head office. It apparently only opened several months ago, and is still in an as-new condition. The room has a high quality shower/bathroom, comfortable beds, and a nice layout. There is a pool, restaurant, and wireless and cabled internet. The television reception is a bit shakey, and it may be perhaps a bit dull in character (it seemed really quiet when we were there), but otherwise it was fine for our one night stay in Arusha.

we arrived here late in the evening right from airport for the first night of our safaritour so it was just for sleeping and breakfast but we were very impressed about the friendly staff, the welcome and the fine food. We had a small snack in the poolbar late in the evening and in the morning the breakfast. Both were very tastefull. Also our room was very comfortable. We can surely recommand this hotel for a stay in Arusha.
