“Perfect place to start/end a safari”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

We spent a night here before going on a safari and then again afterwards, and I cannot think of a better place for doing so. The people are super friendly, food is great and the rooms are very nice, too. We needed two rooms (one for my wife and I, one for our two sons) and were given the family suite on our first night, which was huge and seemed more like an apartment. On the second night we couldn't have that suite, but two adjacent rooms instead, among lots of apologies by the reception manager that we couldn't get the suite again.
I don't know any other hotels in Arusha, so I cannot really compare. But I will certainly want to stay at the African Tulip again if I ever come back.

Great Location, in Downtown Arusha, yet on a quiet, secured side road! The landscape is beautiful as you get out of the car, not only in the front, but the pool area is beautiful as well. The service is what makes this hotel so great. They are all so accommodating and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable on your travels. The hotel has the Baobab restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served all of which are great and have plenty of options. There is a bar inside, all the bartenders were beyond kind and eager to answer questions about the local area and point us in the direction of interest. There is also a Pool Bar outside. The rooms have large bathrooms, TV's, are spacious and beautiful. Room to unpack and relax after safari, or a day shopping in town. A must-stay in Arusha!

Room Tip: Although not required, if you get the balcony option they are nice to enjoy the evenings on.

We spent our first night in Tanzania at the African Tulip, before heading out on Safari with Roy Safaris. We can be a bit snobbish about hotels in the U.S. and were therefore a bit nervous. The accommodations at the African Tulip turned out to be very nice - on the level of a nicer Sheraton in the U.S. - not high luxury, but very clean and completely comfortable. The service was out-standing, far above and beyond most hotels in the U.S. except for the very high luxury - everything was taken care of and everyone was extremely polite. We were thrilled to spend our first night in Africa at this hotel.

Our group of 12 used two singles and five double rooms for a one-night stay after an evening arrival from the Kilimanjarlo Airport. It suited every one of us perfectly - clean and comfortable rooms, superb staff and service, a good restaurant, and a nice gathering room for our group to talk of plans. It is a boutique hotel in a quiet neighborhhood, and It will be my first choice for the next stay in Arusha. I recommend it highly.

A hotel with Western European standards in the middle of Africa. It makes a great place to relax for a day or two before or after travelling in Tanzania, the service is impeccable the quality is very good. The only downside for me was that you kind of forget that you are in Africa while staying there - and that is clearly not what most people want when travelling.

We stayed here one night before starting our safari with Roy Safaris. The hotel is very tastefully decorated and the rooms are comfortable. Our dinner at the Baobab restaurant in the hotel was good and breakfast was excellent. The hotel staff was very attentive and eager to make our stay as pleasant as possible. I would highly recommend it for a short stay at the beginning or end of a safari.
