“Very relaxing rest stop”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

For those coming off of a long trip, like we did, you will appreciate the comfort and coziness and warm hospitality of the Tulip. The rooms were clean, spacious and well decorated, and there was a small pool to relax at as well. We stayed here as part of our Roy Safari tour, which made things very convenient -- we met our tour guide the morning of the first day in the lounge. Also, Roy Safari is next door, which makes covering any remaining balance a cinch.

The only quibble I would make is that the food leaves a bit to be desired. The Indian menu is tasty as is the Tanzanian menu. But stay clear of their American offering. The steak was tough and another American dish was not too tasty either. The buffett breakfast is excellent -- European style, with adequate selection.

Despite arriving late at The African Tulip hotel, the Manager was there to meet and greet us
and we enjoyed a delicious dinner after settling into our spacious, well appointed room. We found the staff very willing and friendly and it was a great introduction to Africa. The decor and ambience was in good taste, as evidenced in our photographs. Breakfast the next morning was
substantial and held us in good stead as we departed on our safari.

All in all a very positive experience and we will gladly stay there again and recommend it to anyone travelling there.

Currently residing in Arusha, this was our choose for an overnight away at the star of a holiday weekend. Checked in around 2.30, all smooth and efficient with a cold passion fruit juice as a welcome drink. Room nicely appointed, everything you'd expect and good quality bathroom products. The pool area is lovely, small but there are rarely many there. We had it to ourselves for the most part. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, the Indian dishes are recommended. There were only 2 complaints- the area around the pool drains in such a way that any bags or items that you put down end in pool of water, not just damp but soaked. There is some sort of electrical pump or fan that constantly turns on and off. From my friend's room (11) it wasn't audible but was annoying in room 16. Excellent service from all staff, attentive but not obtrusive.

Room Tip: Try to get one with a balcony- room 11 was huge with two double beds plus balcony

This hotel is about 55 minutes drive from the Kilimanjaro airport and before you get into the downtown traffic of Arusha. It is a perfect place to stay to start a safari trip in the region because its decor reminds me of old Africa, yet it has all the amenities. The staff is exceptional, the rooms large, good security, a nice small pool and a poolside bar. I ate two meals in the restaurant: Indian food for dinner which the Indian citizens with me confirmed was good; and the breakfast buffet which had a good variety. On personal travel, I would stay here again. I would stay elsewhere with a business group. This is a small boutique hotel with only one conference room, no lifts (there are rooms on three floors) and no fitness center.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor.

We were in September 2012 and felt this hotel was an excellent choice before and after our safari. Service is very friendly, food good and rooms very comfortable. We have been in other hotel in Arusha but we would recommend that one! The service will provide with explanations requested and you will feel everything is very easy when being at the hotel. Breakfast is very good and the rooms are quite and allow for a good rest. A real good choice!

we stayed at the African Tulip a total of 4 nights, great location, great small boutique hotel. staff warm and friendly, meals great.
We booked our whole Africa trip with Roy Safaris, week long Kilimanjaro climb and 2 week safari that's how we ended up at the African Tulip, and was our best trip ever.
would be the first place I'd stay if we went back.

Room Tip: would ask for room on top floor (3rd) and not over driveway, on the 2nd floor at times we could hear...
